Farewell Nicky Hayden

The really brutal thing for him is he is from a USA state that knows nothing about him. They never recognize him that I know of and only a few people outside motorcycling know of his accomplishments . Not the most talented rider but you never heard the guy ..... or complain and he would never be caught engaging in the ........ that is going on now. That is probably why Honda is rewarding him with a ride in WSBK.

For us Yanks we a left riderless and our only salvation is to cheer for the up and coming Italians against the greasy Spanish onslaught.

Ouch! ...... reward for all his service if you ask me.

If it were most riders he would be out of a job completely. I hear the Honda is not that competitive anyway so it's proly just an economical advertising campaign leverage Haydens' popularity. :/

Great takes. (I visit the site on a mobile app, for whatever reason it sometimes fails to notify of new threads).

I will miss Nicky in GP. Some of you have said it better than I could; honest, classy, modest, underrated, gritty, respectable, work ethic, pretty, and a host of other positive descriptions of the man's character and professionalism. Not only racing needs more people like Nicky, but I say the world needs more Nicky Haydens.

No doubt that WSBK has more viewers next year.

**Edit**
If Rossi quits MotoGP, he could go to WSBK with Hayden....;)

I can't honestly say that I will miss Nicky next year. Haven't really seen much of him for a while, so there's nothing to miss....

What we will all miss is JuNkie not posting in any GP threads anymore and just trolling the WSBK thread

On a personal level, Nicky Hayden represents so much value and happiness in my life (well...and I also met Willski, I guess there is always a price to pay). I've met lifelong friends here on this forum and elsewhere because of him in addition to all the wonderful experiences I've had in far away places. From parties at Laguna to trips to the United Kingdom, Florida, Texas, and Indiana. The relationships I've made because I followed Nicky are legion; and when I've reflected upon these friendships in quiet moments I have felt so humbled to the point of heartfelt emotion. I'm not kidding or exaggerating; following Nicky resulted in bonds of friendship where I've been part of weddings, birthdays, gone on cruises, toured the back country of England and a sliver of Wales, flown all night only to drive from the airport to the track and back home, hosted friends at my house and vis versa, been both privy and victim to an uncanny number of episodes of projectile diarrhea, speaking of which, it also got me in to soccer (debatable if this has added value to my life) etc etc. Even now there are friends I will meet up with in the future over following Nicky, god only knows what's to come.

One of the things I like most about Nicky and the entire Hayden clan is that they are just so genuine in their love of racing. At all of the American Superbike races I've attended, they've always had the Hayden General Store selling merchandise. And it's not hired hands working it - at one race it was Nicky's sister-in-law, at the last one I saw them at it was Nicky's mom and dad. Earl talked to us for quite a while and even waited around while we ran back to the car to grab a camera so we could get our picture with him. And pretty much everything in their booth is autographed, yet they don't charge a penny more for it. In fact, they had autographed t-shirts for around $15, which was cheaper than most other booths charged for regular shirts. They straight up just live and breathe the sport.

I suspect 1 out of 10,000 Americans have ever heard of Nicky Heyden. Rossi commented once about walking around NYC in a Yamaha jersey and being stop by absolutely no one. MotoGP hardly exists here. The good thing is that when Nicky retires, he can move on with his life with no interference or media attention.

It doesn't bother me at all that there are no American in GP. I love the sport, the nationality of the participants is meaningless. Sure, it would be nice if there was a reasonable American left but it doesn't effect my enthusiasm.

I met Earl at Indy one year. He was such a nice guy. An absolute gentleman who was eager to talk racing. Nicky was still at Ducati and finished on the podium that year. Really good people.

As Jum has said, Racing needs more families like the Haydens.

I honestly haven't heard Nicky Hayden speak in quite some time. He sure developed more "Euro-like" pronunciations of words like "bike" and "quite". I also noticed he pronounced the word "exciting" more like a Euro too. He definitely sounds less like a Kentucky boy than when he was in the states.

Good luck in WSBK Nicky!!!
