Dorna run a fair competition.(Or do they)

There's fans and there's idiots that wear shirts and call themselves fans, until I see or hear hard evidence that VR has actually said for his fans to behave in such a disgraceful manner I will have to believe that those 'fans' have taken it upon themselves to behave so.

Absolutely .......... and I say that as I have not seen Rossi or any rider openly or publically ask their fans to resort to the tactics and behaviours

But the precedent exists that if one asks, most fans will stop the action and so even if one has not sought the act, one can (and perhaps should) publically deplore the acts of those lunatics and ask that they stop

He certainly should make a statement via twitter/facebook/fanclub etc , I,m of the opinion that he knows about the booing but can't be aware of everything that goes on outside the sheltered environment that is the paddock.

However major a meltdown he had last year it was not sufficient for him to directly request such action from his fans. He has been less subtle than has been the case previously; continuing to voice his conspiracy theories when he knew the reaction of his fans, which he would have known from the get-go imo, and blithely ignoring/denying the booing is tantamount to the same thing (again imo), and MM himself has directly said he believes Rossi's fan base has been wielded as a weapon against him, rather less a conspiracy theory than Rossi's own recent such theories I would have thought.

In this battle of wills over who is the man in Moto GP,the worst thing Marquez could have done was to suggest Rossi get control of his fans. That was a sign that maybe it has got to him and is feeling the strain and will only intensify. He should accept the role and publically thank them for the motivation after every win.

I am still not sure how to read MM. He may not have been asking for anything, and perhaps just made an observation, prior to spending the season making it all irrelevant.

I don't think he is at all chastened, except perhaps if his agent has told him things are looking rather bearish on the future non-Spanish endorsement front. I doubt he really cares about that either.

I am actually not aware of anyone spitting at Stoner's wife, so take it up with those who said it happened. Spitting at Stoner himself is well documented.

It is all splitting hairs imo, stabbing someone is hardly different than shooting them, which is somewhat analogous to the distinction you are attempting to draw.

I have consistently said I formerly blamed as Daniboy still does a lunatic element among Rossi's fandom for "such attitudes", since a certain press conference and many other interactions with the press since I blame Rossi himself.

I'm not attempting to draw any distinction. I've simply never heard of anyone spitting at his wife nor could I find anything on the internet, so I was asking.

However, I will now make a distinction between spitting on an athlete, which is bad enough, and spitting on said athlete's family member. I think it's deplorable to spit on Casey to begin with, but when you involve a family member, who has nothing to do with the situation, you stoop to an even greater low.

I equate this to the attack on Marc last year. It's one thing to boo/hiss at him from the stands, it's another thing entirely to show up at his house and harass him as he's about to go out for an evening jog.

Fair enough, I am actually fairly certain no fan of any rider has ever spat at Stoner's wife, but a factual error by one poster about this does not negate any argument ever made by anyone in regard to all significant rivals of Rossi's having faced a substantial degree of vilification, enough to make it quite unpleasant to conduct their professional lives.

Rossi has never told his fans to stop booing.

He was asked about it at one of the recent press conferences (Argentina I think) and he said "don't know"

What a nob, he knows exactly what their doing but won't don't anything about it cos I think he secretly enjoys it. Just shows his unsportsmanlike conduct again.

Marquez and Lorenzo know how to apologise when their wrong.....which makes them true sportsmen

Agree totally, but I was never trying to argue that Rossi's rivals never faced vilification, that was someone else. I just chimed in when I heard about the spitting on his wife, while I find vile.
