F1 : 2013

Yes it is a team sport Jumkie.  There are two drivers per team and they are supposed to do as they are told, however (that's a fancy but ;) ) they don't always do as they're told. You can go back through the years and find loads of times when a driver was asked to act in a certain way and they ignored team orders then claim afterwards they didn't hear or didn't understand.

To get to the top in F1 you have to be a certain kind of character, you have to be determined and hard nosed and have an absolute will to win. If you find people like that is it any wonder they don't want to play second fiddle to anyone else? If they see a chance to win they will grab it because that is their instinct. That's why I disagree with team orders, they're stupid and unfair not only on the drivers but on the fans as well. Who actually wants to tune it to watch their guy race and find he's not racing to the limits because he has to help his team mate out?

Team orders came back into force at the start of the 2011 season, just checked that, I knew they were in force in 2011 but I wasn't completely sure if they were in at the start of the season, seems they were.

See I can't debate motogp like this as I don't have the knowledge yet, that's the one thing I hate about it to be honest, but F1 is my territory and I have watched it long enough to know what I'm arguing about ;) I do know who drove where, who did what and the stupid little bits of trivia like in all of his F1 career Vettel has never won a race in the month of July. I know, weird right? I feel right at home discussing this stuff so anytime you want to talk F1, you know where to find me :)

I don't buy for a moment that you can give drivers a pass for being dishonorable on the basis that you have to be ruthless, selfish, and determined to get to the top.  It is possible to have those qualities at the appropriate times and places.  Schumacher, Senna and Vettel should not get away with dispicable behavious on the basis that the ends justify the means.

Also, for those of you discussing the importance of the team over the individual in F1, consider that Bradley Wiggins won the Tour de France, but he did not ride alone.  A drivers title is still a relevant and important part of the sport

I'm not giving them a pass, I'm saying that explains why they do it maybe, I never said it was right.

Just so you know, Webber did it to Vettel first but no one made much fuss about it then or called it despicable, I'm not sure why, that's why I can't see why everyone is making such a big deal of it now is all.

It might have something to do with the fact that Mark Webber didn't actually overtake Vettel, he closed him down to make a point, then dropped back as instructed afterwards.  It was quite clear to see.  In addition, it wasn't for the win so would naturally be less high profile

Reading this back, it looks quite rude.  My apologies for that, I don't mean it like that!

The only difference between ........ and the rest of us is that ........ are very good at finding excuses that justify and rationalize their assholey behavior.  Being a self-anointed Racing God does not excuse...

With the current Gumball Special tires, we are in little danger of seeing anyone 'race to the limit' for more than a few laps at a time.  :(

Yes okay, you got me, I am a Vettel fan but I am trying to be fair and not lean too far his way. I may not succeed, but I'm trying :p

you do succeed lyria, please don't justify your neutral, objective and most importantly (relative to others) informed and factual posts.

i think no one could really dispute the facts here (if so,i must have missed somebody arguing with the actual facts instead of the standard drivel), its just a bit of moaning about the teamorder situation where i'm sure deep down they know the right thing was done. or wasn't it precisly the race fixing that drove so many away?

i knew this thread was doomed as soon as i read WWF and the double standards/bitterness were all too obvious, this is just as bad as motogp 2007

09:00 , just beautiful.next level: team alliances to make it 3 against 1

Shame Nico lost a little in the last corner running wide,

Could have been a merc 1-2.

WTF is happening to Mclaren?

well not a lot of f1 fans here, and the few who care have bizarre views on  at least car racing to say the very least

good race by eyebrows, sadly vettel went for soft tyres too late. oops did i talk about drivers?

i meant good team work by ferrari!

tyres still suck.

I disagree with clich a lot.

Tyres is amazing. Asbolutely fantastic.

Alonso suck, Ferrari suck.

At lotus could change the front spoiler , so Raikonen could do better times.

Too bad for Sutil and Rosberg, i dont care for Marc.Vettel is so lucky that didnt crash with Marc's tyre!Massa is fast but he race for Alonso and Ferrari and not for himself!

Button good,perez bad!

Hamilton is far away from 1st win with the Mercedes but he try with W04

Tyres are .... because these guys can't drive hard and it's confusing for the viewers.

Stief : you can hate all you want , each and everyone of my favorite drivers can't be criticized. Though I admit it is Easier to logically defend vettel and deconstruct the drivel than it is selling rea as foggy 2.0
