F1 : 2013

Massa is out at Ferrari.

This pretty much confirms Rai to Ferrari Hulk to Lotus. I can't see Ferrari ditching Massa for any other reason than to make way for Kimi (Don't think they'd have done it for the Hulk) and Hulkenberg will get whichever seat Kimi's not already sat in.

Cliche if you honestly think that Alonso isn't one of three drivers in F1 which are head and shoulders above the rest, then I suggest you are either deluded by how much you dislike him or simply don't understand what you are watching.  Everyone has their favorites but you have to be realistic at least.

As for Nico Hulkenberg, I totally agree, he is easily the best driver not already in a top team and it's a crime he hasn't already been given a big opportunity.  I guess it isn't ideal being one of many Germans in F1 recently, especially when one has been Schumi (nuff said), one is Vettel (nuff said) and one is called Rosberg and has recently proven to be the superb driver he was always supposed to be, although I find his defensive driving to be some of the most questionable on the grid... but I digress.  The Hulk has looked nothing but brilliant since GP2 when he seemed to win the title pretty convincingly as a rookie.

+1

tom, i never ever stated alonso is anything but a very good driver.i rate him defeating schumacher in 06 as quite a big deal and leaving all the disgusting things aside for a moment, he has driven always as good as his car allowed him to

i just don't believe he is head and shoulder above the rest whereas its exactly that image that is being hyped up a lot of times.

if everyone was given the same car , i'd be highly surprised if he didn't end up in the top 4 thats for sure. i can sort of get the argument that he has upped his game since 07, where as hamilton hasn't really that much (all of his wc campaings have been hampered by mistakes since 2010) , but to suggest that he would wipe the floor with vettel, who controls a rabid webber in a much cooler fashion than alo controls massa, is at best laughable

I wouldn't say he would wipe the floor with him, but it would be a great race to watch. Incidently I think Ferrari controlled Massa more than Alonso did.

Now I'd like to see them pull that .... again now they have Kimi.

Who will be Kimi's race engineer at Ferrari?

Smedley's kindergarten-teacher approach won't go over so well.  "I know what I'm doing, STFU!"

But I'd love to hear... "Kimi baby, be cool!  We're bringing you the white <strike>visor</strike> ice cream."

yes yes yes, i know what i'm doing

No, it would be more like, so why's he behind me then according to Martin Brundle ;)

I would assume Rob Smedley will carry on as his race engineer, he won't talk to Kimi how he does to Massa, or if he does he'll get his head bitten off.

Fcuk I so hoped Alonso had been given the boot after his comments to the team.

I reckon this will be even better. Now we'll see what Alonso is really made of. I am expecting a repeat of when he and Hamilton were team mates.

Ferrari may well have increased their chances of winning the constructors championship, but they've decreased Alonso's chances of winning the drivers championship as well. I'd lay money now that if they both drive for Ferrari in 2014, they won't drive together in 2015! I'll be amazed if they do.

Now will anyone give Massa a drive? I doubt it but wouldn't it be great if they did and he showed how fast he really can be without all that pressure on him?

So with Kimi going to Ferrari will Alonso go to McLaren now they've said they want him? I can't see it happening in 2014 but if Ferrari don't give him a champioship car I can see it happening in 2015. The honeymoon period between Kimi and Fernando isn't going to last beyond maybe 2 or 3 races if they're lucky.

Another good set of times by Vettel today for Singapore :)

WTF?

Someone at McLaren said they'd take Eyebrows back?  U.R.Sereus?

Eyebrows = Alonso = The self-serving prick who actually blackmailed McLaren when he raced for them not so many years ago?

As for Kimi and Fred.... "What honeymoon?"  ;)

The silly season just went past silly with the Alonso to McLaren rumour. Maybe next year, and even then, ulikely.

I was happy when Massa said he would be driving for himself for the rest of the season. I want to see what he's capable of when not being forced to be Alonso's ...... Sadly Luca Corleone quickly (and publicly) slapped that down, and sadly I don't think Felipe has the balls to stand up to him. Would be great to see him beat Nando though.

LOL.  I think Whitmarsh was just jerking Fred's chain.  He's likely enjoying the resultant minor squirming.

Earlier this weekend:

Q. Would you sign Fernando Alonso?

A. Martin Whitmarsh: "Yes, if I could - I think most teams up and down this pit-lane would happily sign Fernando Alonso, he is a very talented driver."

Today:

Fred:  “It’s nice to hear comments from all the team principals every year saying they respect my job and personality, especially McLaren.  There were so many rumours that we had a lot of problems that year, but I always said that there are no problems with anyone, it was just the philosophy of the team, especially one man in the team that is not already (sic) there. It is good to have these comments but there is no intention. I have three more years with Ferrari and I hope many more to come if we can extend the contract and that would be my hope.”

So classy of him to toss Lulu (or is it Ron?) under the bus...

Yeah I was happy to read that from Massa. I sort of hope he gets a drive next season to see what he can really do without being so held back by the team. Then again signing him is a huge gamble so it may not happen of course.

Well Alonso might say he's going to stay at Ferrari until the end of his contract but I'm not so sure he will. I can't see him and Kimi being team mates more than one season without one of them walking. Will eyebrows get his own way and get another tame team mate?  I sincerely hope not ;)

where could massa end up?

i mean  should he drive for free he could surely go to lotus.

i really hope he beats nando a few times (he absolutely can do that. talentwise he is closer to alonso than say webber to vettel) and goes out on a high and i see him again in dtm.

red bull seem to have found like half a second. game over. with sebastian being so consistent and never making mistakes this championship should be done.

kind of funny to me though how everyone went into hyper mode a few races ago before the updates when the car wasn't that good.

would we have talked like this in the old points scoring system when someone has 20 points over his next competitor with 7 races to go?

shows what level of performance we got used to by vettel

I'm literally one more season of Vettel dominance away from packing F1 in entirely. Not taking anything away from him, but I'm just bored every time I watch now.

Massa actually does one better than driving for free. He carries sponsorship so it would actually bring more money into Lotus, but I still hope they take Hulkenberg as I want to see what that guy can do with a good car. As much as I like Massa, Nico deserves the shot more, and I'm sure demands much less in wages than Kimi did.

Well it all changes with the new regs next year, that will shake things up nicely I reckon ;)

Massa out qualified Alonso again, you go Massa!!  I don't really want Massa at Lotus, Rob Smedley is going to Williams, maybe they'd take him, they need an experienced driver who bring sponsorship, then again so do some other teams.

I too want to see Hulkenberg at Lotus but apparently there's talk of Di Resta going there now too and he's not denying that rumour either so who knows?

Oh and Kimi has a bad back, that explains his lowly quali place then, so far behind Grosjean. Good showing again by Ricciardo suddenly as well, not bad by the Hulk at a circuit he said his car should struggle at.

Di Resta has the worst luck in the WORLD. I like the guy, but my desire to see a British driver at Lotus is conflicting with my superstition that his albatross ways will plague the team next year. :)

Kimi did his back in by smacking a kerb a little too hard without having his seat properly adjusted. So he would've undoubtably been quicker, but in some ways it's a shame as I think Grosjean would still have significantly outqualified him on merit. Although there would still be the argument that Kimi wasn't really trying for Lotus any more, although that would be ......... Kimi always tries his hardest, for Kimi. He never did it for anyone else, never will. Romain is the most improved driver this year IMO (although you could argue he needed to be) I don't think it's unrealistic to expect him to win races now.

I too would like to see Massa at Williams. That being said, I just want him to stay on the grid without getting in Hulk's way of getting a drive in the Lotus. I like the guy for sure.

Thanks for the info on Kimi, I hadn't heard how he hurt his back, just that he had :)  Apparently it came close to him not qualifying but after a painkilling injection he did. How well he'll be able to race is another matter though. Kimi is a law unto himself that's for sure, which is great when he is on it and wanting to race, not so good once he loses his focus and determination.

Di Resta does have lousy luck doesn't he? If anyone is in the wrong place at the wrong time it seems to be him. Surely it has to change soon doesn't it? I'm not sure I'd want him at Lotus, I can't put my finger on why I don't care for him, I just don't.  Grosjean has improved, especially since he stopped driving into everyone and everything, then again he had to didn't he? There's no way he could have carried on as he was.

Massa deserves another drive much like Rubens did after his time at Ferrari, whether he'll get it is another matter though. I guess only time will tell as the driver roundabout does a few more whirls until the music stops and we find out who has a seat and who doesn't.

Mark Webber was given a reprimand for exiting his burning car full of fuel before the stewards gave him permission.

Now I know that must've been the same steward who decided Nico had to give Perez that space back because both decisions were mind numbingly .........

Aside from that (and Kimi's drive) the rest of it was Hungaroring-level dull.
