Estoril MotoGP: Rossi and Stoner clash again

You seriously think that Rossi wanted to follow Stoner to try to copy his lines?
huh.gif

What is clear is that stoner made an insulting gesture, and that rossi interpreted this as stoner saying he was seeking or in need of a tow.

I have not seen any direct statement from stoner that he thought rossi was seeking a tow, and seeing the gesture was made in australian and interpreted in italian the correctness of rossi's interpretation may be in some doubt, although not the intention to insult.

I think it is fairly irrelevant anyway, as has been said (I think by rossiofsky) stoner was looking for any excuse.

As it happens I watched mick doohan's first race win in 1990 (against rainey, lawson, schwantz , gardner et all) on speed tv australia last night. The notable thing was the change in relative speed of the riders during the race as you have frequently discussed. He had pole, went down as low as 5th while rainey established a substantial lead, then came through later in the race to win easily. Not much fairing bashing in that particular race, with most passes at the end of the straight after slipstreaming.

The tobacco companies were certainly ubiquitous then; the rothmans honda livery was quite striking.

You watched it as well Michael?

I sat on the lounge and was just in my own world watching that race, even though I knew the outcome. Was a spectacular display of race management from Doohan as he knew his tyres, their capabilities and their likele 'come good' time, something that for me is missing in todays race scheme (and thus why elsewhere I have mentioned that I prefer multiple tyre suppliers).

Wasn't it great to see the legends at play again, Rainey in his prime, Schwantz, Lawson, Gardner, Sarron etc etc.

Sorry, I nearly teared up for a second I so miss those days (yes I must stop living in the past)

The thing I had forgotten was that mick doohan ever looked young; he was only 25 then but must have gone grey soon after.

From memory he went grey around the first leg break he suffered in 1992 I thing it was.

It may seem a long stretch but it looked almost to occur as the result of the issues and stresses surrounding the botched leg repair and just went from there

I reckon you are correct Gaz...in fact he seemed to turn grey overnight after that terrible ordeal.

Twas very good wasn't it. How were those curbs!! Some must have been a foot high! Not too mention the Hungarian Marshals, looked like Borats hillbilly cousins!

Micks powerslide on the cool down lap was great, Gardiners tanky mid-late race was amongst the biggest I've ever seen without a crash!
