Espargaro to Yamaha?

True.  However, I honestly can't see Yamaha getting rid of Cal, at least not if he keeps up this performance (though how late will they wait before contracts are signed).  Though a part of me wishes he would be the odd man out of the series just to highlight the absurdity of the ......... But I know Dorna isn't that stupid, they will find a way to keep Cal, the only worthy Brit in the this category at the moment (sorry to say because Smith seems a nice enough kid, but he is being out classed).  Of course, I will be laughing my ... off if Redding beats Pol to the Moto2 title and a contract is singed beforehand with Pol, I would convert to Christianity if this happened.  Cal is performing very well, better than I thought he would.  Rossi is there because he sells.  Cal's stardom is growing and the necessary results to boot.  I'm not sure if Austin meant Lorenzo would leave Yamaha or the sport after a few seasons.  But if this is true, then Yamaha will be looking to replace them (God knows at least one will have to be a Spaniard).  If Lorenzo want to move to HRC, I think he could too, assuming Pedro will not win it this year.  My prediction, Nicky is gone next year, Cal stays with Tech3 or Ducati, Bradley on some ........ YamTech2.9CRTish team, Aleix Espargaro promoted after his second WORLD CRT title to some prototype somewhere.  Pol Espargaro will end up at Tech3.  Also, somebody remind me of Spies' & Bautista's contract.

The quotes I'd read were about retiring, not just leaving Yamaha.

Technically yes.  Its a one year deal with a 2nd year "option" (as far as I can remember).

I was under the impression that's what he signed after his first two-year deal expired, and they exercised his option for last year. I believe this year is a standalone one-year deal.

That was my impression as well, and all indications in the media seem to suggest the same thing.......Nicky only has a deal for 2013.....

Dovi on the other hand has a 2 year deal

Iannone seems to have a 1 year deal

Spies has a 1 year deal as well...

It really must be hard to try and make rider lineup decisions at this time of year. It's hard to say how good/bad a season Crutchlow, Redding, Espargaro, etc. will have based off a couple of races, one being at a new circuit. I would think the teams could leave it until a lot later in the season given their are more decent riders available than there are desirable rides.

I agree that Ducati should chase Redding hard, he is a much better long term prospect than Ianonne.

If a factory Ducati seat is available, Cal should take it. I think Tech3 is too much of a testbed for future Yamaha Factory rides and I just don't think they are interested in him for whatever reason.

When the negotians broke down last year between Cal and Ducati, didn't he make some disparaging remarks about Ducati?  Could come back to bite him in the arse.

He did....but Ducati cant be very picky at the moment.....what Ducati needs is riders that are talented and hungry.....

Right now Ducati seem to have a couple of talented riders, but the hunger is gone in them....IMO....

VR talked .... about Ducati for 2+ years straight, that didn't stop them from falling over themselves to try and re-sign him.  If they want Cal, they will go after him just the same.  I think Cal would be a perfect fit at Ducati.  :)

I would like to see Cal on the Duc, as well as Redding.  If Spies doesn't get motivated his seat may be available!

If Spies doesn't get healthy, I presume you meant.  ;)

I like it that Cal's a no-nonsense guy who isn't afraid to speak his mind. That said, if he ever wants to progress in this paddock, he's going to need to learn to keep his mouth shut.

That was Valentino. He could've stopped at Correntaio and .... on the bike and Ducati would've signed him up again. I think they will get Cal regardless of his remarks, if only because there won't be anyone else with his sort of talent available or willing to move there.

I think that seat's going to be available regardless.

On another note, who decided silly season could start so early!

As I recall the early-silly-season tradition began in 2007 when Kawasaki announced they'd signed Hopkins. If I remember correctly, that was announced prior to Assen, so mid-to-late June, perhaps. Been getting worse ever since.

On your first point about Cal I have to agree fully.

His wild mouth does him no favours.

But that is English passion/frustration taking over ;)

On what has been said by others,

I only can hope he can tame the beast should he end up there.

Errrm!

I know this thread is about Pol(I guess we need to start another thread about this), but again, it's looking very likely that we will have no Americans in the series next year?  With three rounds in the US I seriously question how many will plop down their hard earned cash (more so at COTA) to watch MotoGP?  If I would get my .... together I would still go to Laguna to watch the Spaniard...I mean MotoGP world championship.

So it looks like :

Hayden to WSBK

Cal to Ducati

Pol to Tech3

Spies to WSBK

Edwards to circulate on a CRT till 2020?

Nobody even mentions the CRT option? It looks like the CRT Aprilia package is getting pretty close to Ducati's current pace. Screw Ducati.

Don't forget that the CRT bikes have the option tire.

i dont think cal will end up in ducati because as we know he is very open with his comments and i dont think ducati would want a rider that might end up saying that the bike is .... if it dose not improve performance. the real wild card will be suzuki im sure they want big names on their bike cal, spi, hayden or maybe a rookie.

Even Cal now is confirming that state of affairs...

Well Cal...its is either Ducati Factory squad in 2014....or jump on to the hopefully arriving Suzuki....

Curioser and curioser:

<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230);It looks like things are beginning to look a bit clearer, as Suzuki starts making plans for their 2014 comeback to MotoGP: since Pol Espargaro, one of the riders they wanted badly was stolen by Yamaha Tech3<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230); and will receive a factory M1, the Hamamatsu guys went for his brother Aleix, as the second potential rider, alongside Randy de Puniet<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230);.

<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230);However, it's Cal Crutchlow who seems to be the #1 choice for Suzuki: his contract with Tech3 ends this season, he is indeed looking for a factory bike and a team which actually does R&D for it, and most of all, he has showed some awesome riding during the first three rounds of the present season.

Solomoto<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230); adds that Cal has serious plans for moving to Italy, conveniently close to where Suzuki plans to settle their headquarters. Seeing Crutchlow being so determined and riding so fast, restrained only by the very limits of his actual Tech3 machine, we're so looking forward to witness more awesomeness from him aboard a factory bike.

<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230);Randy de Puniet will be flying to Japan the week after the Le Mans round, for his first encounter with the Factory Suzuki. More info on the Suzuki MotoGP operations coming soon.

Yamaha's satellite team Tech3 has confirmed having Pol Espargaro as one of their riders for the next MotoGP season.

<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230);Herve Poncharal of Tech3 confirmed that bringing Aleix Espargaro's brother Pol to the team was a priority and added that Yamaha's works squad is at the moment a dream-team, with Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, but as things are moving quite fast in the racing world, preparing for the future is essential.

<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230);Poncharal also said that with careers in MotoGP not being very long and Rossi being in his "last straight" as far as his GP evolution is concerned, being ready for such quick changes is paramount.

<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230);Now, things with the NEW Tech3 rider have been clarified, a new question rises: who will Pol Espargaro be replacing?

<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:GestaRegular, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;text-align:justify;background-color:rgb(230,230,230);Is it going to be Cal Crutchlow, who despite his amazing display of fast, efficient riding, was denied an M1 machine? His contract with Tech3 will be over at the end of the season and Cal knows he can do better with a factory machine. Or will Tech3 lay Bradley Smith off, providing both Espargaro and Crutchlow the new M1 engines Yamaha Factory announced they'll be leasing for the new season?
