If this is true it would provide considerable supporting evidence for the lexian hypothesis, or at least suggests that the cited spanish television sources and/or ducati are lex file devotees.

I have had a feeling for a while that the single tyre rule might not happen; I guess I don't have long to wait to be proven wrong.
EDIT
I am not sure dorna can afford to throw away a major company which has contributed so significantly to the sport for so long, particularly in these times and if as reputed bridgestone are reluctant to be a control tyre supplier. Even michelin's financial contribution is not insignificant if as is rumoured they are the major financial backer of tech 3. Dorna has already lost dunlop at the end of last year.

is this half-time, change sides? if it does happen and that is a big IF, then nicky will have a much easier time settling in to ducati. wonder if bridgestone are now playing favourites with rossi and pedrosa? or is it just the spanish press looking for intrigue to spice up the weekend some more?

According to the guys on Eurosport this morning, it does seem that Ducati are seriously considering Michelin for all their bikes next season.

Apparently, Michelin and stones have a gentlemans agreement on a 60 - 40 rule for tyre supply.

I also heard today that Suppo had quoted sometime in the past that ' for Kaaayyyyyzzzeeeee to beat Valentino, we would need to be on different tyres '

We shall see.

After QP today, Casey expressed some dissapointment. He said that the second Q tyre he used, did not work, and that it had been suggested to him that he select that Q tyre solely.

Perhaps Bridgestone would like to see the winner on a Japanese bike.

Remember last year that Casey and ducati won the championship at Motegi, which would have rubbed a few japanese noses the wrong way.

Also remember that Michellin and Ducati are bot Eauropean comapanies and would probably like to see all western manufacturers and riders defeat the japs.

Nothing new here, really.

I read this, this morning and i'm really shocked. i thought it was ducati that had helped bridgestone to get to where they were. seems like they're throwing all that development away. it's a long time since any ducati ran michelins. i don't understand why gresini is swapping too, is that to allow the repsol squad to get bridgestones for both riders? this means toni is buggered as most of his good performances have all been on bridgestone, can only remember one on a michelin tyre and that was when he won in portugal. kawasaki i understand though. if something's not working, you need to change something to go forward, hope this switch takes them nearer to the front.

Well after reading that, and Suppo's comments today ..... I just thought maybe Lex knows more than we credit him with!!!

I think it would be a strategically brilliant move if Michelin are serious about getting back to #1. With Stoner and Hayden at Ducati, they would pull some serious clout with regards to development of the tyres.

It all comes down to competitive advantage. Everyone else is running to Bridgestone so why not head in the other direction. Michelin have the pedigree. It’s not like the Tech3 on Dunlops!

If this does happen and we have no control tyre I will be very happy!

This could be very interesting. It makes sense in terms of the pecking order. The only thing I would be worried about as a team is the smaller heat range wherein Michies generally tend to work. Considering the speed Nicky generally pulls out of the bag on Michies qualifiers he should be very happy with that Ducati move though.

The other think I wonder about is whether they will change the allocation rule. Now the riders choose on Thursday, I wonder if that might become Friday after FP1 and 2.

This really caught me off guard. Well, I'm not sure what to make up from this. Let's see what happens I guess...

It's the exact same move as in 2004 when they decided to switch to Bridgestones. With Rossi and Repsol Honda ahead of them in the pecking order, they likely won't get the same attention as they would working with Michelin. And really I think Michelin has been fairly respectable this season outside Sachsenring, Laguna and Brno.

They may struggle a bit in 2009 just as they did in 2005, but the dividends will be evident just as they were in 2006 so long as Michelin are serious about taking it to Bridestone.

That's 100% correct. Ducati have always had the view that, in order to beat Honda and Yamaha, you have to do something substantially different from them. With the prospect of both the big Japs on Bridgestones, they could now go back to Michelin. Stoner will be staunchly opposed to this move, anyway Hayden knows the Michelin well.
Now that I think of it... Another split garage....?!

That would be fun.

Ducati is coming back to Michelin?? Why would they do something like that? AFAIK they were struggling the grip a lot when they ran Michelin.

That was on a 990 though. The 800's are a different machine.

Suzuki on Michelins. I dreamt of that for so long. Spec tire rule is never going to happen.

SHOCKER!
This makes sense if Michelin is again getting serious about the product they've been putting out.
It's been a couple years since the turmoil at M, and I would think that they're about fed-up with the negative pub, and again want to be thought of as a premier tire manufacturer in MotoGP.
As long as they're committed to it, it can be nothing but good for the series.

if it becomes a single tyre all bikes will run michelin i think... why all the fuss now anyway wasnt this story around 2 weeks ago about ducati using michelins?
