Ducati boss confirms Rossi for 2011

Remember, JB had 6 world championships on his resume before Rossi came along. Obviously working with a talent like Rossi is rewarding in so many ways. It doesn't mean he's Rossi's lapdog.

he had 7 on his resume.......Spencer, Gardner, Doohan (5). Rossi added 7 more.

Fairly obviously part of jb's genius is rather good judgement in selecting the riders for whom he turns spanners. I don't think he was fast freddy's crew chief but he was certainly involved. Much as I admire jb you have to think these riders would still have been successful with other crew chiefs of the quality likely needed to achieve being made crew chief for a leading factory premier class gp team even if not quite up to jb's level.

+1^^^ when i read the bit about jb wanting to work with nh i wondered if he could of help improve nicks performance at all. imo i think he could of had a huge impact on haydens performance.... oh well we'll never know...

An interesting thought. Seeing he wanted to work with nicky means he rated him, and he has not often been wrong. Nicky is obviously prepared to put the work in, maybe jb could have focused him more. Having said this, in the year of 2006 nicky and his then crew chief (? pete benson) did alright against rossi and jb despite seemingly fairly cursory assistance from honda.

Yes how dare they try to develop a superior motorcycle to the one that had failed to win the title since 2003! We all know the saying... If its broke, don't fix it... oh wait

I think Nicky likes the big engines matey.More his style,as we know.Poor bloke is just getting into the swing of it on the 800`s and we`re changing again .Good for the sport and Nicky though.

bin-.......-go... bring on the big boy bikes

back on topic...

Rossi will be very dangerous next year... its been a very long time since he's been on one of the faster bikes on the grid... it wont take long for him to sort out the handling. then it's gona be 2002 all over again

You say that, but the Ducati hasn't recently been as fast as the Honda, and its JB and Rossi that developed the Yam into a superior all round package at the calculated expense of ultimate straight line speed. I think the biggest threat is what we know Rossi can do when he is motivated by a challenge of this scale. It'll be facinating to see if he's still got what it takes to take such risks and make them work, the level of competition he's facing is higher than it ever has been

Maybe the level of competition will be subdued for one Jorge Lorenzo,he hasn`t had experience of the big bike in a race. It`ll be a good spectacle to watch him adapt though I don`t think it`ll take long unless it spits him up the road.

Good point.Rossi's motivation to make it work will be interresting to see the results of.(I don't know if anyone racing now has shown motivation like he has.)

Then ofcourse Ducati's extra motivation when they finally after all these years have their ultimate rider. This can't go wrong!!!

I'm really looking forward to it.It's such an ultimate scenario for me as a Ducatifan (as it is to many others ofcourse)that it's almost too good to be true.

I also agree that straightline speed is NOT as good as low laptimes.

Hondas fast with midgets

Dude all I'm saying is Rossi will not be on the slowest bike anymore.. And thats very bad for the comp..

This was exactly my point, I am glad you agree tom. Hayden and pete benson actually managed to develop a championship winning bike, defeating rossi and jb who were in their 3rd year at yamaha, despite hrc appearing to have little or no interest in nicky himself winning the rider's title. In the end being cast as the development mule probably worked in nicky's favour, apart from the race where dani took him out.

Sure. Both the bigger bike and the less advanced electronics to tame the engines worked in favour of a rider of nicky's background, size, strength and intestinal fortitiude.

I would say the Yamaha is an "all round package at the expense of ultimate straight line speed" by original design, more than by development. The IL4 with reverse rotation, long swingarm, short wheelbase, were all there in the original design. JB and Rossi made the design work properly.

If it is true that Yamaha is banning Burgess and crew from even seeing the 2011 proto, the logic conclusion is that they are leaving too.

I never had any doubt that Ducati wanted Burgess alongside Rossi -- they need him as much as they need Rossi. Preziosi's joke on Italian TV some time ago was revealing: "We are ready even to take Valentino in order to have Burgess".

Not to be pedantic - but this is not conclusive in that there remains the possibility that JB could retire. Hoping not.

IF JB was taking retirement wouldn't Yam still want him there at the Brno test for his input feedback on the 2011 bike ?

just bcs he might retire that wouldn't mean he's banned from M1.2011 input

YAM they would want as much as possible off JB before he retires.then let him walk away at the end off 2010 season

ONLY REASON HE'S Banned from YAM Brno test is he's going to pastures new .....and Yam know it..

As Rossi and Burgess know, the bike that turns the fastest lap time, is the fastest bike. As has been argued, top speed is down the list of importance for a winning bike, behind cornering stability, braking stability, and initial acceleration. Having all 4 would be great, and who knows, maybe Rossi and Burgess can get that out of the Ducati. If they do, they will be unbeatable.
