Ducati boss confirms Rossi for 2011

I dont think its wishful reporting, its a case of the CEO jumping the gun and crayfishing so Rossi can have his day with his minions at his feet. As far as Nicky and Valentino clashing, dont see it happening. Nicky is universally liked in the paddock and will get along with just about anyone, even Pedrosa if the truth be known. If Rossi has the wall constructed, it will go a long way towards saying who and what he is.

Official Press Release from Ducati:

August 4th: Regarding the recent allegations attributed to Gabriele Del Torchio - Ducati CEO and President, Ducati states that no agreement has been reached with the riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden for the future Moto GP season, although our interest in these riders remains.

We would like to say that the recent news which has appeared on the US website Cycle World and other websites has been misreported and must be attributed to the many rumors circulating lately.

Whether and when an agreement is reached, official press releases will be issued.

Poor journalism - this whole saga is getting nauseous really (and I don't mean that in a nice way to make anyone look a rockstar). Let the bloke go where he pleases. Was the silly season this crazy when he signed for for Yamaha mid 2003 -- it was less filthy to be honest. Who gives a damn to what the Ducati CEO says especially when it turns out to be this meagre a piece of "news"?!!

On a side note, poor journalism is like the impurity we add to potentially non-conducting material, of which fast microprocessors are made - so maybe on some level this silly season is nauseous in a nice way
<

Why had the CEO to speak to the press at all at the peak of the evil silly season had these blips slips not meant to be intentional?!

<

If Del Torchio said these things, knowing they would be published now, that was an incredible gaffe on his part.

I know everybody knows already, but form is important especially for the Japanese, and Ducati is supposed to wait that Yamaha announces the divorce before they can speak about the marriage.

Of course they had to backpedal after this.

I don't think Rossi would make this jump had the bike not improved, when Melandri was riding it it was still a pile of .... and got no better....on another note the engine rule seems to have taken some teeth out of the Duc and Val may use his super powers and tell the FIA the engine rule has to go and with the displacement increase coming it's not a hard sale.

How many races did Casey win that year on that pile of ....?

You know someone had to say it

Cheers

I don't think any sane person genuinely anticipates handbags at dawn in the Ducati garage.

But then again, not everyone here is sane, and those that that can be considered sober

are fewer still.

that will be the previous Duc N01 riders fault.
<

It will be a test for ducati too. If valentino can't fix it then it may be the bike's fault.

It still looks like what suits stoner doesn't suit anyone else though, with stoner's improvement over this season seeming to coincide with deterioration in nicky's performance. If valentino successfully develops the bike it will suit others, although how many riders ducati has the resources to support has also been in question.

I find it interesting that the R1 just enjoyed its first 2 wins of the year in WSBK........could be just odd timing or may have something to do with certain tests.

I also believe that we can't discount the importance of Bridgestones more relaxed approach now being the sole supplier, especially in comparison to 2007-2008. They still aren't matching qualifying times from 08....this is saying a lot.

Though Stoner's problems now are mostly front end related, as they were in 2006 and 2008 so all the blame cannot be put on the bike or tyres, and he hasn't exactly improved his speed this year-only not continued crashing, at Qatar he was odds on to wipe the field, not finish at distant second, third and fifth. At this point it is safe to say that he and Ducati have been far from replicating their Consistent, Dominant devastation of the field in 2007. In this era of multiple world champs (Doohan/Rossi) one must ask why couldn't they keep on doing it? Is it because they were so much stronger that year, or were the others so much weaker?

All this being said, if Rossi and Burgess go to Ducati, Consistently winning will be the biggest challenge of their careers.......

You are not the only one to suggest a connection between valentino testing the yamaha wsbk and crutchlow's success, and I don't think such a connection is much of a stretch, it is not as though valentino has never displayed any ability to sort bikes, and ben spies is also renowned for such ability (with superbikes anyway); crutchlow can hardly be expected to be as good a developer as yet.

I have no doubt rossi will be able to ride the ducati 800cc bike fast, the issue will be consistency as you say and whether he will be able to eliminate the vices of the last iteration of the bike given the radically different chassis approach which it is possible is fundamentally flawed. The 2012 bike probably won't be a problem unless it is already past being favourably influenced even by him.

Cal Crutchlow declared to MotoSprint that the changes made following Rossi's tests of the R1 have been very important.

"Vale has enormous experience and he helped us a lot. I had understood that the problem of the R1 was acceleration, but we were unable to find a solution. He gave the engineeers the right tip suggesting a change in the electronics, so as to make the first part of throttle response smoother."

"Why deny it?" he said, "I am happy to acknowledge his merits. We are not discovering him now...".

Sorry Machine, wrong idea -- again... !
