I agree, it is what it is, and perhaps he should have retired before the season.

I'm sure if he had a crystal ball he would have retired!

Joking aside, the Stoner I saw last year at Silverstone, and the one I saw this year were like 2 different riders. He dominated the 2011 race, and made everybody else look very second hand.

This year however, he just didn't look the same, and in the last laps, he did well to keep Pedrosa behind him, it just didn't seem to be clicking for him.

The next test for Casey is can he live with the "what ifs" and "might have beens" at the end of his career, he's a complex lad, no doubt about that.

Worst of all, who are we gonna pick on after he's gone? Is there another rider out there who polarises opinion to the extent that Casey and Vale have?

Stoner is seeing out his career, since he announced his retirement, in safety. Thats why Indy was such a shock, he didn't expect to crash at all.

He will be back by PI though, Aussie fans love him so he will repay them.

Knowing when to quit is hard though isn't it? I mean do you want to leave when you're still winning? Surely if you love the sport you want to hang on and win some more whilst you have the chance. If you don't leave then though you have the inevtiable slide backwards down the grid and your fans are left talking about how good you used to be. Leaving without major injuries is always a plus though.

Not when you have an Adriana and Allessandra tp live for ....... Stoner has that as his new interest/obsession.

You mean like KRJR.....once a champion and a few year later leaves mid-season without anyone noticing or caring.......

So he is mentally ill with a hot wife , a kid, 2 premier class world championships, 35 premier class wins, and tens of millions of dollars. I guess he will just have to learn to live with it, and retiring to rural acreage with the hot wife and kid would seem a good plan.

If I was at his point in life; happily married, just popped the first, a couple of WC tucked under the belt and the finances seem under control. Why the .... not walk, got nothing to prove. The quiet non GP life. With the trappings.

And some will call him a quitter, because in some strange way of thinking, he owes them his presence on the grid..

Agreed...We all call him crazy because we (at least most of us) thinks he has the best job in the world and talent that we all want. But, if his heart isn't in it anymore then why stay. Its the right thing to do, plus he is giving up a great seat to someone who really wants it.

I get that.. but what is he, 26? i dunno, personally i'd stack a few more chips while i still could... im sure the traveling etc sucks, im sure the politics suck, but seriously who has a job they completely love? there's always something you have to do that isn't your favorite.. not to mention i'd hate for him to be 40-something wondering what could have been.. but oh well sir.. have a good life.. personally, just tired of the "but he's got a hot wife! why wouldn't you quit and just hang out with her all day!" what're we teenagers?

Reminds me of the saying, it doesn't matter how hot she is, someone somewhere is sick of putting up with her .....

For the record, I think she is overrated.

All perhaps true but he seems to like her which i guess is the point.

Again, it is his life not yours.I know plenty of people in high paying jobs coveted by others , most of which are high pressure almost by definition, who having achieved what they wanted and being financially secure decide to stop and smell the roses. Others love what they do so much they keep going although they don't need the money. Both would seem reasonable choices to me.

It is irrelevant whether his wife/partner is hot, they mostly have hot women anyway as you say, but he seems to have a secure family life if you want to be mature about it. Also other racers have had children, but without an exhaustive data search I think it is fairly rare in gp racing for them to keep stacking up world championships after doing so. He has specifically said he is not stopping because of his family in any case, but his wife did seem close to marco simoncelli's partner and marco's death may have weighed on his family as well, particularly with a newborn child..

I get what you're saying my brotha. And most of my buddies actually feel the same way (I'm the black sheep of the fam it seems), some a bit more extreme than others. But think about this for a moment, imagine all the pros and cons Casey took into account to make his decision. Dude has the loot, the chick (yeah yeah, maybe she isn't the latest SI model, but would you kick her out of bed?), the new kid, and the titles, not to mention most peeps with a brain would agree dude is the 'fasters' dude on the planet when head is straight (or bike, whatever) so he may feel hes got nothing really to prove...and the healthy body (see Joan Lascorz for the reality of this sport). Couple that with his take that GP is a corrupt good o'boy backroom-deal horse-trading elite courtryclub of Spanish/Italian ....-sucking shameless seat-fixing rules-bending VR-fixated gutless moto-sport media reporting ........ of a series (which I would fully argue he is right). Couple this with the machines on the field which ........ grid filler, the result of not going one way or the other to keep the remaining "factory" participants happy while selling casual fans the illusion of a padded field of participants (which I could argue, is'"prototype" 3 tier system vs the CRT 3 tier system' ).

I have rarely been in favor of people 'resigning' over a protest to a system (actually for the reason that it seems to let the dastardly win). In fact, Casey's retirement has done more to catapult further the bullshittiness of the series, by making seats available to the darlings of the sport, without the buffer of him challenging the record books that surely will be padded in his absence. I personally see it as saying one big FU to the state of the series, but again, that may be all nice and praiseworthy but for the short turn at least, with no end in sight, the series will continue to artificially cohort with its pimp, while the competition of the field will be illusion only (I know I could never convince most, though the same ilk will grandstand here that 'if their employer was a ...., they'd tell him to take this job and shove it, which I doubt most would ever have the balls). Not saying you in particular, but you know what I mean. But i'll also admit bro, part of me wishes i could tell Casey, dude, sack the .... up. Dont leave in ur prime, and dont let this .... get under ur skin. Get ur ... out there and finish what u started. Lots of peeps dont like 'every' aspect of their job, show the boss u aint gonna ..... out just cuz he is dicking around with the business.

Yeah, its complex man.

I'm not saying I would kick her out of bed.

Actually I'd have to otherwise my wife would have an issue.
To mis-quote an old song "If you want to be happy for the rest of your life make a bi-sexual girl your wife"

To quote a song I just made up then, "if you want to be happy for the rest of your life, avoid getting a wife"
