Stoner said he hopes to return one or two races prior to the penultimate MotoGP round at Phillip Island, but the resulting loss in points completely eliminates his chances of retiring as the current MotoGP champ. At this point, it looks like the 2012 title will be won by either current points leader Jorge Lorenzo or Stoner’s teammate Dani Pedrosa.

ehh...sucks for him but i really don't care. I thought he really didn't have much of a shot even before he crashed.

Your work is done here Scotty.

Time to swirl your way down the toilet ride off into the sunset now

I would have liked him to finish with another title. He probably doesn't care too much, I suspect. Racking up titles never really seemed a priority for him, so he's probably pretty happy to get out of the scene now. It's a pity to see him go - the way he rides clearly shows he was born to be on a bike.

I think it is a disappointing way to end a career 'how ever i do not think he would have won this season Lorenzo is racing so well 'and Dani also . If we keep having races like last one will not be bad 'great to see Cal on podium

That makes two Australian unflushable turds on this forum

The only turds on this forum are YOU and all the irrelevant comments that turds like you cosistantlly make & personalise every topic! That is why this forum is like it is & has been over the years! I've been on this forum since 2005 & predicted Stoner in 2006 to win the WC so go & have a turd & flush your self down the toilet while you're at it

Funny that because i thought i was the only one who saw something in stoner back in 2006. So what name were you posting under in 2005-2006 then ?

I wonder if he'll even come back, it may be hard to find the motivation after being at home with the family.

As a fan I am happy with him winning 2 titles. I think his riding style requires total commitment and intense focus and if he doesn't feel he can give these things he is right to go. All credit to whoever wins the title whether it is lorenzo or pedrosa, they have obviously outridden him this year, in managing not to crash at sachsenring and indy for a start.

Disagree, with the form that Dani is showing, the Honda team would have had opportunities to take huge chunks out of Lorenzo. A couple of Honda 1-2 finishes with Stoner winning, Lorenzos point lead would have been manageable. I saw the other day where Jarvis says he is not worried about Pedrosa, that he would have to win the remaining races to win the title, which is not true.Obviously there are thousands of scenarios that can decide the title that doesnt require Pedrosa to win all of the remaining races. Stoner can still play a huge role in who wins the title when he comes back, im just wondering which route he will take, me or team.

Exactly Pov.....we saw two big points deficits turned around in very short time this year already....First Casey caught JLo from around 20 odd points down in two races. Then Stoner threw away that advantage in the 2 races at Mugello and Sachsenring followed by a big off at Indy that ended his championship there and then.

Honda also looked to be getting on top of the chatter issue recently and they were heading to a series of tracks that suited Stoner pretty well. But all that is moot as history will record that he did not stage a comeback and his championship aspirations ended before he had a chance to get back in the hunt for a third title.

As far as him having a disappointing end to his career - tell that to Rainey, Doohan and Schwantz. He may not have had the fairytale ending but worse things could happen. He may well get a comeback at Phillip Island and record a sixth straight win there....that would be a pretty good way to finish his career I reckon.

Sure, I think the honda bike is right in the game now, and looks to have a utilisable straight line grunt advantage again. It is possible to ride almost a perfect season though, stoner pretty well did last year but didn't really ever look like doing it this year, and jorge might this year which may be jarvis's point. Stoner coming back to take points away from jorge would be helpful to dani and contributing to a honda championship for dani might actually be a good way for him to go out now that he himself can't win the championship. It is hard to know at this stage whether injury will allow him to do this even if he is so inclined.

i agree with you that he could disrupt and take points away from jorge or dani, im just saying that i dont think out of the 3 he would have came out on top...IMO

Surely Scotty was CSAVAW - he was around back then I think, and the psycho posting style and use of CAPITAL LETTERS certainly match up
