<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mylexicon @ Oct 2 2009, 04:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Ugh, Spies is in trouble.
Everyone who rides a Ducati has got factory equipment and access to data. If they pass Haga they will be killed.
Yeah, but this was the same scenario facing Colin Edwards in 2002 - and at that time there was double the amount of Ducatis in the field. Xaus was in the Fabi role - plus BBoz in the satellite L&M team - (so effectively three factory bikes). You also had JT and Neil Hodgson both riding for GSE Ducati, Chili and a team mate on the NCR Ducati, Team Pedercinni, DFX Ducati, and that's just to mention a few. Not only that, but Colin had to do the business at that final classic race in Ducati's back yard. Colin's achievement, post Laguna, to turn around that Championship after he won the 8 hour with Rossi and HRC stepped up their support in the second half of the season, was huge. Don't forget - that team still runs out of Louth as HM Plant Honda in BSB - still presided over by Neil Tuxworth, while Adrian Gorst, who spannered for Colin is chief engineer. But I agree - Spies faces a monumental task in the next four races.
Interesting that Tardozzi wasn't imposing team orders at Imola last weekend, it remains to be seen how this conflict of interests between his personal affiliation with Fabrizio, and Haga's Championship bid plays out. You can be damn sure that if it was Fabi contesting the title with Spies there would have been strict instructions issued to Haga prior to Imola if not before to ride shotgun for his beloved protégé
