I didn't see it as a racing incident. He went straight to the apex without looking leaving Pol no where to go. Is there no responsibility to look if another rider is there?
They need to penalise the guy so the other riders don't take it into their own hands. If I was Pol or Luthi I would be punting him off at the first chance without hesitation.

When the action is that heated and everybody is bouncing around like marbles in jar and Espargaro tries to get in through a teensy gap that's a lot to expect. It was a racing incident plain and simple.
I agree with what you're sayin' about having a responsibility to look out for others. But in this circumstance, a rider's instinct to make the save would have compromised that responsibility and is understandable. During that big moment Marquez had, I'm sure the only thing on his mind was to pull his bike back safely. I really feel for Espargaro, though. Wrong place at the wrong time.

I hate to agree with Mental cause usually hes a douch bag milk shake.. BUT if I was Esperagus id be headed to punch Marqy straight in his pretty mouth followed by a Goodfellas Robert D stomp.
If he left a bike width than yes a racing incident. He did not so I disagree. It seems to me that Marquez has no peripheral vision. Is his eye injury still affecting him. I certainly have no trouble seeing someone or something directly beside me when riding with a road helmet or an off road helmet so why can't Marquez.

You cannot realistically compare your experience while tooling down the road dodging the occasional Mr. Softie truck to that of a rider in a scrap at 160 mph who has just saved the bike on his knee with all those other riders coming at him from all angles. That .... happens in the blink of an eye. I'm no Marquez fan - but I can't see blaming him. Espargaro too a chance and it didn't pan out.
Tooling down the road or bush track is what I am used to. Racing bikes at 160mph is what these guys are used to. If he can't see a rider right beside him and leave a bike width of room then he should not be there. He knew full well he was in a battle of 4 bikes all nose to tail so he should be able to assume some one he is fight for the championship with is coming up the inside if he makes a mistake. If he is penalised for not looking then I bet he will find a way to have a quick glance in future.

These guys are more talented than you and I but they're not superhuman. They cannot be expected to anticipate every possible move of every rider around them. You have to consider the rate at which Pol was closing. If Marquez was concentrating on the placement of the riders ahead that he was hoping to re-pass then he couldn't realistically be expected to see behind him at the precise micro second that Pol charged through. Passing a rider when he cannot anticipate it is the basis of many successful passes. He took his chance and it didn't work out.

IMO, you can't do that w/o looking.
When you make a mistake and get slow and off line, you damn well better LOOK before re-joining. No exceptions.
The nasty part of me is whispering that it was a deliberate chop, but since the dude on the outside usually comes off worse, that seems unlikely. Just simple target fixation and bloody-mindedness; and a big dose of sheer Bad Luck that Asparagus got launched.
Got to think the penalty was more about all the other incidents MM has been involved in recently. Is it safe to assume that the stewards have had some nice little chats with Marky over the last few races, and that this incident represents the 'last straw?'

I disagree. It was a racing incident that could have been prevented. It was an act of carelessness by Marquez.
There is absolutely no way he did not know that Espargaro was behind him. If Simoncelli can be pinned to the wall for not leaving Pedrosa room/turning into him, so should Marquez. Similar to the WSBK incident (Melandri/Haslam/Rhea), space was created from the slide/save, Marquez knew that Espargaro would go for the gap.

Now one of his main rivals is hurt from the incident and will not be in top condition to fight.
All is left is for Marquez to hurt Luthi and the championship is all done and dusted
