Lex,sometimes you can be unbearable
All we want is a class of racing where the rules are set for everyone,not this ........ competition bulletin crap where the rules are a moving target and titlted to one maker to draw a certain fan. Set the ....... rules,put Superbikles against Superbikes,small bore bikes against small bore bikes and IF your good enough you can win.This crap of purposley dumbing down one segment and allowing prototyping on another is not racing.Its more like a choreagraphed show than a race.I dont like it and close to 90% of race fans dont either.That .... might be popular if you went down to the local soccer field and asked the soccer moms..Tell them there is this little fat kid that really cant run that fast but he really really wants to play.He is not very good but he keeps showing up. See his daddy over there,his name is Roger and he is loaded,he will buy the team new uniforms and take all the kids out for Pizza after every game if you will just put these 20 lb weights on your kids ankles.

You're right the series needs transparent rules. If you remember, the original DSB was going to be HP limited with 1 minimum weight for everyone. DMG was prepared to let manufacturers make a plethora of modifications to the engines (DSB WAS supposed to be the old FX).
The Japanese manufacturers balked (probably for good reason) because they said they would have to spend tons of money on engine internals to compete with the twin manufacturers (probably Ducati and Aprilia b/c the Buell has the drag coefficient of a barn door). The Japanese manufacturers opted instead for the restricted eligible equipment list with a higher minimum weight for twins to cancel their low end advantage.
Without multiple states of tune between Supersport and DSB the big 4 were probably thinking about ditching DSB altogether. That's when Edmondson drew outrage from the manufacturers and fans alike by turning SS into a kiddie class so the manufacturers couldn't take their riders out of DSB.
Not an easy solution to that mess, is there? I think once the manufacturers sign on to Edy's rule package in DSB, SS may come back.
