Brno Race Thread

Listening to Stoner's post race interview he is very respectful of Pedrosa and sounded genuinely disappointed for him. He also heaps praise on his team for getting the bike to a point that allowed him to push it hard with some confidence.

When I hear comments that Stoner is a .... I always wonder if those people are just holding on to some prejudice from a few years ago or if they actually listen to him now.

I don't agree with you about everything, but I think any attitude he had was a consequence of him being vilified for beating valentino on the bike that rode itself. He was pretty humble during 2007 in his (rare) local press interviews, saying his success was beyond his wildest dreams, he had hoped for 5th in the championship at best etc etc.

He seems a bit mellower with unequivocal recognition of his talent, particularly by the likes of kevin schwantz. He hasn't won this championship yet though.

After Mugello, when Dovi pipped him and yet he still complimented Dovi on his race, I was fully ready to start liking Stoner. Then he showed his contempt for slower riders by buzzing Abraham at the post-race test.

I've noticed that's becoming a little pattern with Stoner: with both Rossi (at Jerez test) and Abraham, when Stoner knows the cameras aren't there, he'll pull some ..... He's even turned his back on Puig, who helped him a lot early in his career.

Great rider, weird person.

When, why & how did that happen? source?

I have virtually given up on MotoGP.com live feed. I can't even get FP's or QP's to run and I have less than year old Mac's on cable broadband. I know it is not my connection or hardware as I can live stream plenty of other stuff no problem.

I have no problems at all, so if it isn't hardware or connection try a different browser.

Mike, if Stoner wins the title this year, do you think he will have a T-shirt listing his heroes with Valentino's name on it...again?

For the most part, he has been fairly decent in his interviews, but consider that he won the race while what looked like his faster teammate crashed out. So there was an element of 'getting away with something', even if it was just perceived. But he's had his moments of frustration when he sticks his foot in mouth.

Uhm, you didn't help your argument with the highlighted part. That he turned his back on Puig makes me willing to forgive him for his track practice antics.

For Jumkie (and will try to find a better pic)

Thanks, that is a great pic. Another disappointment that JHop didn't ride, for I believe had he finished in top 10 (which doesn't look hard to do if you're not on a DucGP) he would have thrown down a sick ... wheelie. But Stones has been killing a few of his own too. Not sure if you also saw, but Nicky threw down a nice one on the warm down lap.

I'd suggest you read the link carefully before painting Puig as a two-dimensional villain. He helped Stoner out a lot and still says good things about him. On the other hand, Puig can get carried away when it comes to media tiffs.

You may want to take another look at the article yourself, but this time try to use a bit of discernment...if you can. The title should have been a clue: 'Puig reminds Stoner how he helped him at the beginning'. The article tries to paint Puig as the one who helped Stoner make it. Haha, what a ....... joke, Puig also says (as he can't resist) that Pedro would have won three MotoGP titles by now had he not got hurt. This reminds me of what Pete said, and "if Hailwood was still alive and the Beatles not broken up." So a Spanish article paints Puig in a positive light? NO. And now he wants to associate himself with Stoner, as if he was the sole reason he came to Europe, bla bla bla. Hey everybody, look at Puig, he's a ....... saint and is the reason Casey is now with Repsol Honda. They quote Casey saying, yeah, he helped a bit at the beginning, but as soon as he saw I could compete with Pedro, Puig threw me to the curb. And then Puig says he's disappointed that Stoner feels ties were cut after he (Puig) saw he (Stoner) was fast and might challenge Pedro. Puig then says, well maybe Stoner doesn't remember very well, so I'll remind him. Hey, look everybody, Puig the keeper of our collective history is about to speak, listen up. That whole ....... article is a highjack dude and if you followed the sport a bit closer, you'd know the type of character and conniving son of a ..... Puig is, and what he is capable of, as he wields much power (having a bed buddy like Carmelo, which he mentions in the article) in the sport. This isn't the first time he's highjacked a media outlet to make himself look good. Puig talks to self aggrandize himself, and you swallow it whole, talking about how Stoner shouldn't forget where he came from and who (probably pointing at his chest) helped him out. Then he losses it by saying, in conclusion, I have pride when I see him in the paddock as I know I helped him out and did it out of the kindness of my heart, I didn't do it for something in return. Then adds (....... comical) I don't even have an autographed helmet of Stoner's in my house (wtf) bla bla bla.

I don't paint Puig as a "two-dimensional villain", I paint him much worse. You can go sucking his .... if you like, that's your prerogative.

It's a bit hard to read a Spanish article when you don't speak/read Spanish.

Here is the gist:

Spanish mag, so tell us Lord Puig, your thoughts on Stoner accusing you of kicking him to the curb once he could compete with Pedro. Ah, well, Stoner doesn't remember, here is the deal, I adopted him as my son and taught him how to .... and wipe his .... He made it because of me. Oh, and Pedro, he would have won every year had he not been hurt. Ah, so thanks for setting the record straight. No problem, any time, and let me add, I do everything in this sport because I have such a big heart, and I wish Stoner could realize this, as I don't even have a singed helmet of his in my house.

So in other words, it's a Spanish article praising a Spanish person in a sport ruled by Spanish, got ya.

It's a bit hard to read a Spanish article when you don't speak/read Spanish.

Here ya go:

… At telling him Casey had disowned him recently in an interview (“Alberto helped us in maybe the first couple of years. And when I began to compete against Dani, they more or less separated us”), he replied forcefully: “Sincerely, it leaves a bad taste that Casey thinks this, that he says we separated him or that my connection with him ended when I saw he was fast. He doesn’t remember how it was? I’ll remind him: I was the one that brought him to Spain and put him in the Telefónica-Honda team of CEV in opposition to many that didn’t see it, because he was a stranger. I knew he was very fast and for that reason I personally pressured Carmelo Ezpeleta to put him in GP, and after much insisting, he accepted and placed him with Cecchinello. Then I spoke with my friend Harald Bartol to sign him for his 125cc KTM team, and they did it. Casey and Dani were riders of a very high level, and before entering MotoGP, I recommended many times to Honda that they sign him, as he was now in my opinion a super rider.”

Puig didn’t offer only professional support, but also personal: “When he got to Europe with his family he came with nothing but the clothes he was wearing. We offered him our house so he could stay in Spain. They stayed there almost a year and a half. Therefore it’s difficult to believe thaty I did this to separate him like he says. I always knew that Casey would arrive and I was very happy when he won his first GP, but when his career was set I continued with Dani because of the relationship I had with him. I think it’s very good that Casey is winning. Sporting rivalry and “fair play” should be above all and if you’re beaten, you take it and learn.”

And he concludes giving it hard to Stoner: “It doesn’t seem right to me that he forget his origins nor the people that helped him. You should always be grateful and more in this sport. When I see him I do so with pride in knowing that at one time I lent a hand and I’m proud I did it for nothing. But not having ... I don’t even have a signed helmet of his in my house. To sum it up, I don’t owe Stoner anything; him to my family and me, probably yes.”

Jumkie, try decaf.

Here ya go:

Jumkie, try decaf.

The quote from Stoner was “Alberto helped us in maybe the first couple of years. And when I began to compete against Dani, they more or less separated us”.

Then Puig says "I was the one that brought him to Spain and put him in the Telefónica-Honda"

Puig goes on to say "Then I spoke with my friend Harald Bartol to sign him for his 125cc KTM team".

So they were separated!!!!!!! Lucky Stoner got the fire breathing 125cc KTM. Poor Pedro got a factory Honda. Poor Puig has nothing, not even a signed helmet.
