Assen - 2022

Well done Pecco.

Disappointed to see Fabio far cup.

We will see how he recovers from that.

Aleix will be a bit pissed. He had real speed.

WHAT A RACE!

Bagnaia seals a MUST win to bag 25 points for his title charge!

Bezzechi comes home in second, what a circuit to claim your first ever MotoGP podium. Can we see Bez score another podium this year?

It was great to see Maverick Vinales back on the podium and good to see him happy again. After Germany I knew his confidence was going to grow massively.

My Rider of the Day: Aleix Espagaro!

What a ride from Aleix, he fell down to 15th after a collision with Fabio but made his way to 4th with a stunning two bike overtake on the final chicane!! My race of the season so far!

FQ ... this was a baad day. From god to mere mortal. His confidence level was sky high coming to Assen and now it is in shambles. First oubraking himself, losing places. Then losing front end, crashing. Then high side, another crash. Gods don't do any of that.
Only a fresh victory can ease his mind and restore some of lost confidence. The worst part is he has to sit in this predicament for 5 weeks. I'm afraid it takes a heavy toll, mentally.

Definitely a massive far cup, but if you look at the championship standings, it was a Fabio-esque far cup.

Fabio lost:
25 to Pecco (who cares)
20 to Bezzechi (who cares)
16 to Vinales (who cares)
13 to Aleix (manageable)
11 to B Binder (who cares)
10 to Jack (who cares)
……..
3 to Zarco (lol)

As far as monumental screw ups go, this wasn’t a bad one.

Yeah Assen is supposed to be a Yamaha track and they hang a goose egg on the scoreboard. Fabio might get away with this one, but Yam had a terrible weekend.

Quel Merde! And then they send him out again?

Aleix was on fire. Amazing to see him come good like this after so many years. Sure puts to rest the old cliche about riders getting soft/losing the fire in the belly after having kids. Much appreciate the way Aprilia has kept their nose to the grindstone all this time. For the longest time I just assumed KTM with all that Red Bull $ would the big up-and-comer.

Happy for Vinales but not betting any $ on him repeating these results any time soon.

Not worried about Fabs having a confidence crisis. I don’t think he’s that fragile. He’s got five weeks to get over it and will doubtless have a visit or two with Monsieur Le Psychiatre.

So FQ was a little hot in that corner, so what...Yamaha saying .... it get back out there is a problem, like they have no idea what Honda is going through without their #1...

He could have just as easily been crippled by that high-side.

FQ has been handed a penalty for his crash! Wow that he crashed and Wow, that he got the long-lap penalty.

Everybody has made great points in their posts but Jack had a great ride as well. He was pissed with Aleix's pass at the end but I didn't see anything wrong with it. It was open and Aleix went for it. It's the GT chicane for goodness sake. He had to.

Quatararo Penalty

Can someone explain why Quatararo deserves a penalty?

Nakagami took out Bagnaia and Rins in Barcelona and received nothing
Nakagami took Rins out in Mugello received nothing
Bagnaia took out Martin in Qatar and received absolutely nothing

So how is that at all fair?

Another point to make is that Aleix didn’t get taken out of the race and he rode on to claim a brilliant 4th place…

There is some reasoning behind this. Basically, they say if what rider did was reasonable and it just went wrong then there is no penalty. OTOH, if rider tried something crazy then it is punishable as irresponsible riding. How fair it is depends on stewards. They do have footage from all cameras (from all bikes and track cameras) and they have access to the telemetry. So assuming they are competent and know racing then it is quite possible to determine if rider was overly enthusiastic and took too many risks or not. In the end it is still subjective. And depends on how crooked stewards are. I still remember how they penalized Zarco for Morbidelli braking blunder. Zarco had no influential friends and this was his punishable offense ...

This entire “penalty” thing is nonsense. Fabio took himself out and scored no points. Yes, it hindered Aleix but it’s racing ffs.

Penalties like this should go bye bye. It will make me quit watching. Racing is not, and never has been, politically correct or “fair.”

Weirder still that Mir and Oliveira collided on the grid. Then Mir and Marini collided at the start. No penalties. I guess no one went down, and no one had their race ruined, but it was an awkward and dangerous 2 minutes for Mir.

Potentially makes the title race closer.

Isn't this penalty reactive in that the stewarding was under heavy pressure from riders and teams for allowing past incidents to go unpunished? 'Coincidentally', we're now seeing a raft of long lap penalties and now, this one for FQ.

I was really impressed by how Aleix was able to stay upright with FQ losing the front and sliding into him.
He stood it up and braked hard, then into the gravel and through it.
Yep that ride back to 4th was seriously good. Fastest on the track and carved past a heap of riders [emoji41]

.

Yeah he is a long way back points wise, but that one race made a big difference.

I still rate Pecco, he is very fast.
He has a better bike too.
