Aspar / Kawasaki motogp

thanks for that alex! interesting if it pans out.

Regarding Toni Elias - how solid is the information that he will ride Yamaha SBK next year.

His 2nd on the Ducati shows he may be in the right spot and he is a hell of a rider to watch. Superbike would get a little more interesting with Toni there. I'd like to see him do well on a Ducati in motogp, he looked the business on Sunday.

Thats great news!! I'd rather see a Spies mounted Suzuki, but increasing the grid and finally getting the lower rung factories to cough up another bike is an excellent prospect.

I'd love to see how they'd do, especially if Aspar can fund the whole thing. That would just help Kawasaki in the long run. Why wouldn't Suzuki want that??

martinez has really got it together unlike d'antin. so for a satillite team they will be well funded & able help the green brick advance.
and forest don't get your hopes up about spies coming to gps this season. methinks he'll end up in wsbk.

He's awesome to watch when he's riding for a contract at least.

What intrigued me was Bautista's part in this. After a season of absolute .... I think Bautista is not really in a position to demand what bike he rides in the premier class. After this type of inconsistency and failed expectations (maybe not so bad as melandri's, but failed nonetheless as the championship was supposed to be his) he would be lucky to get a motogp ride at all.

About spies and wsbk. It seems from schwantz's comments that he views wsbk as a sidestep to motogp, and schwantz recommends that ben stays in AMA for another year if he cant get a gp ride. I see what schwantz is thinking, most of the wsbk tracks are different from the gp tracks, and the riders are second rate compared to motogp and beating them still wouldn't prove anything major, but a fourth championship in the uncompetitive AMA would prove even less...Spies needs to take whatever world ride he can get just for the exposure. If suzuki loyalty is whats stopping him from taking a satellite ride, screw loyalty, hes a rider, its a business. If its the money thats in the way of say, a gresini ride, well thats career choice he needs to make. There is already one american sacrificing career results for money.

Toni Elias on a kawasaki, cool, but I don't see that pulling a podium more than twice a year at best. Probably never. The fourth place on the ducati was promising (stoner+pedrosa anomaly factor), maybe he should stay, then again maybe its already decided.

We could always do with more bikes on the grid so this is great news, hopefully it will be confirmed very soon. Kawasaki's looked very impressive at Brno aswell, obviously Hopkins dropping back was down to his own injuries not the bike and seeing as Westy, a guy who has been battling for the wooden spoon with Marco in nearly every race this season finished 5th it shows just how much they've improved over the summer break.

So hopefully Aspar can get at least one Kawasaki on the grid next year with Alvaro and hopefully they'll be, to an extent, competitive.

100% agree. spies needs to move to the world NOW! wether a ride in gps or wsbk. and wsbk rider quality & especially track quality (most anyway) are way higher than the ama. spies has 1 guy to compete with in ama, mladin & thats it. it's a joke.

and what is happening with the series right now does not bode well for sbk riders here in the states.

If Spies does go to WSBK because he can't get a ride in MotoGP then WSBK in 2009 will be insanely mouthwatering, in my opinion it could easily exceed the entertainment value of MotoGP as it has done this year, even if MotoGP introduce the control tyre.

It already has.

Spies in WSBK, would be great for him, as he will be in similar machinery but surrounded by 10-15 other guys that are all capable of winning. I just have a feeling he sees himself on a Suzuki Moto GP ride or nothing else. It's got to be a tough time right now for him to decide what the future holds for his career.

Moto GP needs to do something, personally I don't want the F1 of motorcycles. Sure they are the fastest, but not by much. F1 is about watching cars make such fast turns that seem impossible. I don't see that in GP, when you compare it to other moto racing. Moto GP needs to do something for the racing fan, else it just becomes a glamor sport where people only go for the spectacle of the event and a chance to see a hollywood star. I have a feeling some big changes are in store for GP, control tire is bound to happen, in my opinion.

In regards to Elias going to Yamaha WSBK, I have never heard that one yet.

Man this years silly season is going to be super silly.

If Spies was to go to WSBK, he will probably be a mediocre rider at best.... thus making him lose his name, so bye bye to a chance at MotoGP. But if he continues to stay in AMA, he will continue to dominate against sub par riders making his name appear Big... thus giving him a possible chance to make it in Moto GP.

Toby and Julian mentioned it on the Eurosport broadcast yesterday, I personally would love to see a partnership of Toni and Nori (presuming he signs a new deal) at Yamaha.

I pretty much guarentee that Spies wouldn't be a mediocre rider at best. If he was to go to WSBK then it would probably be with Alstare Suzuki so he'll be at a very competitive team with world class teammates. Also Spies has proven that he is worthy of battling with the best in the world after his replacement ride at Donington and his wildcard at Laguna, and I think he'll prove himself even more at Indy. Spies, in my opinion, is easily capable of challenging for the WSBK title in his first season and what a season it'll be with about 6 or 7 competitive manufacturers confirmed for next season's championship with world class riders occupying rides for all of those manufacturers.

I agree, I have a feeling he wants to be on Rizla Suzuki in Moto GP or nothing else. He certainly would be a better choice for the Moto GP ranks then many of the potential 250 riders that are looked at. I have a feeling if he doesn't get his ride this next year, then he will spend yet another year racing Mladin and wait for Cappers to retire/move on or possibly Vermi to move.

Thats quite a claim Shinya boy. What makes you think this? The last person to dominate Maladin and go to MOTOGP was Hayden and he has done pretty good. If Spies goes to WSBK I would expect him to do pretty damn good. Why do you say mediocre at best?

Come on... Shinya has always outperform his team mates throughout his career so you can't say the guy is a lame duck. Just never landed that ride to show his full potential, hopefully he continues to improve on the factory bike which seems to suit his riding style.
