Exactly my conclusion in regard to those riding a GP24.

We are both obviously mistaken however, several luminaries on motorsport.com told me throughout last season that the GP24 was no better than the GP23, and that if MM was any good he should have won more races against Martin and Bagnaia.
Oh man, I left the cesspit that is the comments section on there last summer.

Buriram test Day 1 results. Marc pushed for a time attack at the end thought I don't think anyone else did.

Davide Tardozzi has all but confirmed they are going to use the GP24 engine. It remains to be seen if they are going to use any GP25 chassis and aero parts.
Apparently, it was reported by pitlane reporters for MotoGP.com feed that on his last run, Bagnaia went out on a bike that had the yellow scrutineering sticker from 2024 (i.e a GP24 bike).

This means the 2025 Ducati is basically going to be at the same level as the 2024. At least for the start of the season.

With Ducati going into the season with basically the 2024 bike and others making improvements I think we can be optimistic the 2025 season will be more competitive.
The only thing that speaks against the competitiveness is Marc on a factory Ducati.

That thing's pretty damn low btw

Ducati are so advanced (or arrogant)they can hold development for 3 years. (Counting 2024 as year one)
Or they are just pouring their resources into 2027. Might help the 1000s go out with a bang, depending on what other teams do, but it doesn't bode well for 2027 unless some of the big teams guess wrong, and the pecking order is shuffled.

Ducati know their 24 bike, and the limited testing they've done this season doesn't fill them with enough confidence that they should homologate the new edition for two seasons.

Opt for one development route for six bikes, and not two developments for three of each.

I smell a financial incentive in their decision.

With no Ducati engine advancement that should lead to closer racing in 2025 and 2026, however it doesn't stop them developing elsewhere on the bike

Reading the article they might put some of the 2025 parts in the 2024 engine but I might be a misunderstanding due to translate

To be fair, they did try to develop the engine, so they haven't just sat on their hands. Everyone else that is currently a threat is holding development for a year. I don't know how much engine development Yamaha and Honda are able to do during 25-26 but I assume if they make serious gains and see results, development of some parts would be frozen.
I'm no expert but at the power all manufacturers are of these bikes are getting, I assume better gains can be made with chassis and aero. We are assuming that Marquez, Bagnaia and Ducati are being 100% honest, which is I wouldn't put money on.

I remember Pecco saying the GP25 was a big improvement in the Barcelona tests, and now they're gonna be stuck with the GP24 engine instead. Wonder what happened during that time.

No one else did that many laps in one go, but for information, here are others average lap over their 'longest' runs

Franco Morbidelli (18 laps) average = 1m 31.019s

Johann Zarco (20 laps) average = 1m 31.570s

Somkiat Chantra (19 laps) average = 1m 32.009s

Marco Bezzecchi (13 laps) average = 1m 30.093s

Joan Mir (11 laps) average = 1m 30.282s

Fabio Quartararo (12 laps) average = 1m 30.361s

Jack Miller (13 laps) average = 1m 30.776s

Brad Binder (12 laps) average = 1m 31.077s

Luca Marini (13 laps) average = 1m 31.315s

Ducati have opted for the GP24 engine over the GP25. It appears the chassis is GP24 too, so the GP25 looks to essentially be a base GP24 that will get evolved with aero and chassis tweaks during the season.
