Pecco is the weakest two-time champion in MotoGP history.
He was fully empowered by riding the best bike on the grid, and not by technical ability. Sure, he's a good guy, a good rider. But he's not an extraordinary talent.

He had the peace of mind of working with the support of Valentino Rossi at his base, and of being born in the same country as Ducati. He didn't demonstrate anything that would make him a Factory rider. Not even victories in satellite teams (like Enea had before being hired, for example).

And his track record in titles is poor, considering that he had BY FAR the best bike with opponents with inferior equipment:

2021 - Lost to Quartararo (2 rounds to go) with a Yamaha already sinking and Ducati having been the best bike on the grid for years.
2022 - Beat Quartararo in the last stage. With an even bigger equipment gap than last year.
2023 - Beat Martin in the last round. Having been a factory rider for 3 years versus a satellite team (which we know is slightly inferior).
2024 - Another battle in the last round against a satellite team, this time he lost. Martin showing a much more iconic and aggressive riding style.

Again: Pecco is a good rider. But not an extra class.
In the current season, I would put him behind MM, Acosta, Fabio and Martin. These, with equal equipment conditions, would easily beat the Italian.

His titles started as soon as ride height became the law of the land. He was the first to adapt to Ducati's strategies. He also managed to defend in 2023, despite the introduction of sprint races, which didn't suit his style. Martin eventually capitalized on his superior sprint performances in 2024.

Ride height and sprints are old hat now. The teams know how to adjust the bikes to situations and riding styles. Ducati dismantled their rider empire to get Marc, and they have obviously taken a step in his direction, and Alex is the indirect beneficiary.

Pecco is like Prost, only he is less outspoken to the press. We'll have to see where he stands at the end.

Five seconds between Gonzalez and Vietti. That's a serious margin. 7 laps to go, but I'm thnking that only Jake can beat Jake here.

My (Indonesian) wife was sad to hear of Aji's fall.

"Shall I look after my tyres, or shall I just go hell for leather. ... I know what, I'll do both." - Jake Dixon (probably)

EDIT: What is a rider as talented as David Alonso doing back in 20th?

EDIT: As they say, that was a Dixon Demolition. Boscoscuros 1st and 3rd. And I was thinking that the Kalex was significantly ahead this year.

Does anyone else get the feeling the Marquez brothers are working like unofficial team mates? Could it happen in reality?
It already happened at Gresini, so there's precedent. But I don't see that happening at Ducati unless Alex turns out better than Pecco. And I don't see Pecco behind Alex at the end of the season, but could be wrong. We'll have to wait a few months to see how the season unfolds.

this fox sports coverage is absolute ..... 7 minutes of coverage in the first 20 minutes. The rest has been commercials. I'm just glad I got to see two people dancing instead of an interview with someone on the front row.

I did predict that Ogura would do better in the race. Plenty of time for my words to come back and bite me.

EDIT: Is Ogura going to overtake Diggia?

EDIT: L19 - "No" is the answer. But, he's ahead of Acosta again.

Looking very interesting at the front.

"Marquez is the quicker of the two." Not very useful commentary.

Funny to think that Marquez could in all likelihood be just as competitive and potentially win the championship this year on last year’s bike. I’m sure this must have occurred to Pecco
by now.

German commentators were speculating whether Marc would Alex win. Well, he didn't.
Morbidelli did a great job getting to 3rd and hanging on on the soft tire.

Zarco will be disappointed after getting passed on the last lap but he shouldn't, amazing result for Honda.
Ai rode another great race as well.

Great race, plenty of action and tension throughout, my heart was beating hard. Alex made Marc work for it, who had plenty of scares following his little brother, but once he got past he just pulled away. Morbidelli with his first Sunday podium in what feels like an eternity, nice gamble with the soft but good race too. Bagnaia won't be too pleased about finishing as the 4th Ducati, toothless. DiGia put the spice at the end, denying a great Zarco of a top 5 finish. Binder did a Binder, silent work and finishing ahead of Acosta who hasn't impressed so far this year. Bad luck for Quartararo who got punted by Bezz in the initial turn. Ogura did well for a while, even if he didn't match his notorious previous performance.

Marc breaks the tie with Doohan in pole+win+fastest lap in GPs and now leads the historic classification in that stat.
