Nicky has more premiere titles than Pedro... just sayin'.
Pedrosa has significantly more wins, podiums, poles and fastest laps. In less races. He has been unlucky, in some respects. He came to his peak while Rossi was still winning and two other up-and-comers were hot to trot. Stoner, Pedrosa and Lorenzo have been burgling points off each other in a manner Hayden wouldn't even have been able to compete in.
Don't forget, when Pedrosa was getting all the good gear from HRC, apparently, he was a rookie. He got one less second place and one less third than the four-year-veteran Champ... And if Rossi hadn't jumped to the unknown, Hayden wouldn't have had a look-in.
Face it, he's never been that good. Bradl/Bautista level good, but lucky when it counted.
A championship with two wins - I'll bet he prayed thanks every night since that Pedro didn't stick that pass at Laguna, otherwise it would have been Pedro with a rookie championship and Hayden as the chump. There was only 37 points between first and fifth place that year. Hayden 252, Rossi 247 (late season charge - 5 wins, a bunch of DNFs - including the crucial one in Valencia), Capirossi 229, Melandri 228, Pedrosa 215. In fact, every rider between Hayden and Pedrosa had better win and podium stats than the Champ... they were busy taking points off each other - especially Capirossi and Melandri. If Elias hadn't beaten Rossi by .002 in Portugal, he would have won (another) championship. So really, 7 different winners in 2006 was the big helping hand Hayden needed.
Luck plays a big part in winning a GP champ, Hayden had buckets of sparkly, leprechaun cum all over him.
But, every seppo glorifies his name and praises on high his wonderful technique - despite that only delivering a sum total of three wins, five poles and six second places in 10.5 years. Two of his wins were at his fave, home track. The other was a race that defied the odds - he rode less worse than the rest of the pack. He placed ahead of a Kawasaki and his rookie team-mate. Even Hopkins and Jr beat Rossi on the Camel.
Make up whatever .... you like about him, but his record is about the same as Norick Abe and Darryl Beattie. And that's not high praise.
