Yamaha extends Rossi contract to 2018

I do think Rossi encourages that element among his fans, and so do MM and JL.

What Jordan may have done in the entirely different sport of basketball where competitors by and large don't risk their lives much is rather irrelevant to gp bike racing where booing competitors on the podium had not been typical of the sport in the 30 years I have followed it.

I think what can be compared is that there were Jordan fans that weren't necessarily basketball fans just like there's Rossi fans that aren't true fans of motorcycle racing.

No, I think you're either mistaking the culture between sports (which I don't believe you are for one second) or you are insisting on carrying on this weak line of reasoning that Rossi himself is not responsible for initiating this spiteful, vengeful, malignant jeering and disrespect for Marquez and Lorenzo wilst on a podium.

You really expect me to believe you don't understand why this is a hot topic of conversation? In 30 years of going to see baseball games I've never once heard a reporter ask why the fans were booing the opposing players. In fact every time an opposing batter goes up to the plate the entire stadium boos. Because it's acceptable part of the culture of baseball. This NOT the acceptable culture in motorcycle racing! Hence why a respected reporter and feed commentator Gavin Emmett asked the question in a press conference to the riders. Because it is NOT part of the culture of this sport. And more to the point, Rossi's answer was completely chickenshit disavowing any knowledge of it, making the premise of your argument untenable.

Moto vudu, how long have you been watching MotoGP? Because if it's been since 2008, I might better understand why you think this can be compared to basketball. Booing is not a normal part of motorcycle racing. Its not part of this sport's culture. It's frankly unacceptable.

The people that are booing don't care about what's normal motorcycle racing culture. They're not fans of motorcycling racing, they're fans of Rossi. It's up to Dorna to decide to remove them from the events.

I agree what you say about the booing fans. I don't agree Dorna needs to remove them, they've not committed any crime. However their booing is a reflection of Rossi, and that is a reflection of Dorna, and a reflection of the type of people susceptible to religious extremism.

Same with me. Not up to Dorna.

Totally agree. If Rossi were in any way a sporting hero, he would say things to dispel the ridiculous booing... "ah wea are-a all rrracers and havinga goode time no? Eesa just racinggg (smiley smiley, rossi wavey into camera)"

I think he loves it, his followers booing his rivals. Should be ashamed, like.

If Dorna are responsible as you say, maybe they could use their new rider control rule about bringing the sport into disrepute to force Rossi to appeal sincerely to his fans.
1. They wouldn't have the balls to threaten their cash cow so it won't happen
2 Rossi wants it to continue as he's a narcissistic control freak who thinks it gives him an advantage over his rivals
3 he would rush straight into the arms of his beloved press, claiming that Lorenzo and Marquez are ganging up on him again.

The morons will continue to spoil the atmosphere and podium celebrations especially if Rossi isn't on it...

A weak minded person who is so emotionally involved with a person they have never met, will do what that person tells them to do. Its not up to Dorna or anyone else to remove them, its up tp Rossi to remind them that this .... is real, this .... is dangerous, its not soccer, booing will not be tolerated. But that wont happen because Rossi loves playing God to his mindless dimwitted fans. And no, its not just a fringe, its the majority. The sane ones are the fringe. He pictures himself as some Emperor who can give the thumbs up or thumbs down on someones quality of life, and in some respects, he can.

It is not up to Dorna to remove them as they are not throwing objects etc

The fact that they are fans of Rossi (and not motorcycling) as you have said shows where or who can impact this and stop it should that person so choose (just as he did with Ianonne's abuse) but to date, that person is seemingly enjoying and revelling in the behaviour and has stated that he sees little wrong.

Perhaps it is time for other fair minded fans to boo Rossi as no doubt, all hell would break loose were that to occur

If one wants to be seen to be a pillar of the sport, one should act as a pillar of the sport .............. unfortunately, a once former pillar has crumbled under pressure and been shown up to be un-reinforced concrete of poor quality

Your post makes me think of Lorenzo's quote from 2011...

Jorge Lorenzo said:
Everyone is laughing, but it is not funny because we are playing with our lives and riding at 200mph. On bikes that are very powerful and very heavy. It is not mini-bikes. It is a dangerous sport, so you have to think what you do.

And who was sat there, egging Simmo on as he enjoyed Lorenzo's discomfort? He was exactly the same when Marquez was doing it, laughing and being best buddies with him.
That soon changed when Marquez had the audacity to race the goat, suddenly he was a conspirator and helping Lorenzo to take away HIS title...

Images like this do nothing for the sport.

Peoples Champ. Reminds me of the populists "people's President" in countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Brazil. Uneducated masses idolatrizing a figure to god like status. As some point the masses will realize the con and revolt much like is what is taking place in Brazil.

Good of you to visit us Bat. Hope you been well.

"People's Champ". There is a message there.

I guess we can add this to his Mundialito championship. One thing is certainly, win or win VR always wins. And frankly, it's true.

It's interesting that you mention revolution. I was just having a conversation yesterday about this with Mdub. The thing about a revolution is that it's a populous movement, it's about the majority not for the minority. So in this case it's impossible. Evidenced by the extraordinary action by the fans to mount a petition to usurp Race Direction's mild penalty. The only alternative for this condition of the Empire is separatistism, and that is also impossible. We are unfortunately stuck with this reality for the short and long run, possibly into perpetuity. Give it enough time and VR's current legendary status, detracted only by a small few, will become absolutely divinity. As time begins to fade memories, only the "record" will remain not how it was Doctored.

Lula (previous Brazilian President) and Dilma (current president) both populist and elected were and to a point are seen as "do no evil" in Brazil. The masses that put them there are realizing finally that they have done little to no good for their country in the long term. There have been many nation wide protest and Dilma is nearly impeached and dethroned.

Give it time Jum, some folk are just slow at learnin'. Time sorts .... out.

And yes, gettin back into the races. I'll be around here more often, when I can. This forum now moves so fast though, that it's impossible to keep up!

For those of you who don't understand Spanish, the picture is an insult specifically directed at Marquez, with the hash tag #MarquezIsABitch. Of course it doubles up as an insult to Lorenzo, as he is actually the real champion of 2015. And I'll add, it says something about Yamaha's management "honor" in that Rossi feels no reservations in openly diminishing an actual title won by a Yamaha team--the wrong team.
