WSBK/WSS - Assen - Practice, Quali, Race

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Apr 28 2009, 01:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Leon is, he's ridden in all 3 GP classes and WSBK in the past. Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised.
The commentator mentioned Haslam had many laps on this track. Was he talking about just his wild cards or did Haslam run supersport, or what? Or am I undertanding he meant laps on GP machines?

I'm unsure if Leon has ridden the new Assen layout before, when was the damage done? Leon rode WSBK alongside Haga in 04 and of course had his GP experience of the old track. Thats all i know

Well whatever, this kid is the real deal. I thought that first podium might be a fluke, but hell no. The way he stayed and leaned on Spies through not one, not two, but three turns in a sync-highspeed-ballad was amazing. I intently waited to see what he would say about that sequence in the interview, and he was all for the game. Good on him.

No. Kiyonari is the real deal.

I didn't even see him in the race. The commentators mentioned that he wouldn't be satisfied with his reults. Honda is really turning into Kwak. They are really struggling. Luckily they have Haslam or else it would really look bad.

Hey Sacky, If Kiyo keeps up his mid-packing he's guaranteed an offer to MotoGP! Ah, genius plan.

He has less points than at this time last year, in his rookie season! Bad Times

Kiyo is turning into turkish Sofuoglu ...bad bad...All good things and lucks belong to that damn super fast Haga.

Indeed the Ten Kate boys really have their work cut out for them. Rea is the best performing of the 3 while he is also the 3rd rider. As it goes like this i think Checa is going to retire after this year sadly enough
<
. They arent performing that great in SS aswell. best result from the last 2 races is a 3rd place from Sofu in Valencia. Maybe they've become to cocky while Yamaha has been working their ... off.

What a crash from Neukichner btw in race 1. Don't see them getting dragged by their boots alot
<
. Was a bit frustrated to see Haga lose that race, the new Yamaha seems real easy on the tires especially if you look at the previous years. Won't be suprised to see the new Honda having a V4 config aswell
<
surely hope not tho, the screaming 4 cil. still sound great.

Bad weekend for Aprilia aswell. really hoped to see Biaggi running with the front in Race 1 not even speeking of race 2
<
They need to work on their reliability surely. look at Nakano in Valencia.
Got an Aprilia myself and I busted my arm aswell going off with a highside last month when my engine locked
<

Great 2nd race by Nori couldn't have done it better myself. Is this finally gonna be his year? After missing out in 2000 and 2007 by an inch. It isn't really Haga style but he deserves to win this year more than anyone.

Anyone seen the STK 600 btw? Brilliant race. Maybe because a Dutchy was running in the front
<
(yeah I was there awell). group of 5 at the front, 2 team mates crashed out leaving the dutchy Joey Litjens in front. He got overtaken but the guy crashed out leaving the win for Joey. Everybody in the crowd was cheering till the last chicane
<
. He had over 0.5 sec to Gino Rea but he messed up the last corner completly leaving the win for Rea. Everyone was like WTF?

I KNOW! what a disapointment huh! I was amazed to see joey still being satisfied with 2nd, while he couldve WON in his homeland race...

where did you sit? I was at the Winterdijk
<
always a nice spot...

1st At Duikersloot/Mandeveen during race 1 and the SS. But then went to get some food
<
and moved up the Hoge Heide. The full throttle kink, really cool to see. You can see them all the way from the Veenslang to the Ramshoek so the whole backpart of the track.

Not sure what you implied here but the Yamaha R1 that Spies/Sykes rides is not a V4, it's an inline 4 with the cross plane crank that imitates the benefits of the V configuration. Suzuki and Honda do not use this with their inline 4 engines, I would imagine they may try it given the success that Yamaha is having. However the normal configuration that Suzuki does have should give them a nice top end advantage at tracks like Monza. I remember Max N on the Suzuki there last year pulling away on the straights in places, guess we will have to wait and see.

Welcome to the forum, great to see more Haga fans.

I would like to hear more about this. Your engine locked and you went into a highside

Welcome to the forum HagaRules,

If it wasn't for Spies, I would be rooting for Max N. and Haga (in that order) to win the title. I like Haga, and it would be a shame for him to leave WSBK without a title. He's like the Randy Mamola of the series. Great character, awesome racecraft, exciting racing, and this year, an actual head on his shoulders. The DNFs by Spies is certainly making it look like Haga will win one. Oddly enough, its what Spies is doing that kept Haga from winning titles before.

Ok, another note. I just saw the Supersport race last night. Holy ....! What does Assen have that other tracks don't to provide such amazing racing? Geez, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Wow, I hope its like this at Miller, Utah.

Great stuff!

Not sure if anyone has seen this, but its an interesting view of Spies drop in Race 2. When I watched this on WSBK.com the camera was inside the track and the barrier was in the way, so to me it looked like he dropped (the front) on the way into turn 1, obviously not.
