Assen is this weekend boys and girls, early predictions? Last year Bayliss did the double win. Haga DNF'd race 1 but got a 2nd in race 2. Checa in 2008 picked up a 2nd and a 3rd. Max N had a 3rd and a 5th last year. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think Spies has seen Assen, he was invited to ride the Suzuki there but passed on the offer and created a .... storm if I recall.

The WSS race at Assen last year was one of the greatest races I have ever seen, amazing fight with a large front pack trading the front positions all the way to the end. Pitt barely picked up the win over Rea in a close finish. Hopefully Assen will provide a similar WSS race this year.

I'm with you there. At the chequered flag, there was something like 5 seconds separating Pitt in first place and Haarms in 13th...so that'd be like just over two thirds of the Moto GP grid finishing within 5 seconds of each other as opposed to 5 kilometers.

Haga loves Assen, and so does the Ducati - which follows that Spies will love it and so will the new R1. Spies will have his work cut out to overhaul Nori here, and the Cathedral (even post moderation) is renowned for it's little secrets. Having said that, I think the high corner speed and the flowing nature of the circuit will really suit Ben and he'll be fast all weekend from the off.

I'm with you guys, if Haga's on a roll from the last set. Can't wait.

but predictionwise: ben spies and hopefully haga

Haga's got so much momentum right now I can't see anything other than a double win for him.

Maybe Neukirchner, Biaggi or Smrz to get a podium too.

Considering how much promise has turned into not a lot for this season it looks like you'd be a fool to predict a winner that isn't Haga or Spies, but you never know. Both will be strong i'm sure, but i'll be hoping Shakey and Ten Kate can both make the difference they need to be at the front. Also think Haslam should go well here and hopefully stay ahead of Hopper.

In SS, i'm hoping Laverty's style and experience get him another win!

Hopkins cant catch a break, in the hospital with dislocated hip after a get off early in FP1

Hopkins has been royally screwed by 2 seasons on the 800s. He brakes way too early and turns in way too soon.

Besides 2007, Assen hasn't been kind to him.

What can you say about Spies? .4 clear in FP1 and it's his first time to the circuit. Why didn't I get some of his skills?

I have always heard Hopkins was a late braker, maybe I have heard wrong. Haslam is tearing it up on the Stiggy Honda, so Hopkins knows what its capable of. I think the ghost of Assen has gotten to him, 2 years in a row of crashing there.

Assen is going to be do or die for Ten Kate, "home" track and so far their lackluster year has been overshadowed by the new Stiggy boys. Looks like they might be on track though.

Spies, again looking great for being new to the track. Haga does very well at Assen however, and we all know he doesn't need pole to win races. I would be happy to see either rider win, I just want a bang out fight from start to finish!

Hopkins is a late braker but he's also a highly skilled small displacement rider. He was spotted for his abilities on small displacement machines. FX was his only high displacement triumph.

If you watch the end of Valencia race 2 (the only substantial camera time Hopkins has gotten), you will see that Hopkins has an overwhelming urge to brake early and turn in early. The SBK regulars are practically locking both wheels all the way to the apex. Hopper can't ride through them so he coasts through the apex then meagerly opens the throttle b/c he's riding a tight-in wide-out line.

I'll see if I can post some video. Hopkins 800 style is hideous to watch on a Stiggy CBR1000. I'm hoping his latest crash happened while trying to late-apex.

Haga may be on a roll, but so was Spies and we saw how that ended up. The last 3 years has not been good to Haga at Assen. 3 years=6 races. He has 4 DNF's and 2 finishes.

Hoping history repeats itself...DNF for Haga, but no injuries, just to even out points.

Spies for the double I hope.

Bummed about Hopkins. Geez, can we have any more bad luck. Why is it that when he crashes it like a season ending injury? Has the guy ever ridden a season with no pain? A dislocated hip? Are you fing kidding me?

Excellent, can't wait to see pics. Get a good one of Spies crossing the finish line 2.5 seconds over 2nd place.

Waiting for Pete's comment....

which I'll probably agree with.

Give the ride to Westy whilst he's away.

I'd shorten that to "give the bike to Westy"
