Max is far cleverer and more calculating than that - (when it doesn't involve following certain race protocol that is). Yeah he repeatedly found himself off line due to his mistakes, but there were occasions that he parked it and I will contentiously add, brake checked Haslam to compensate for his errors - watch the race again. For Christ sake as I said, we're dealing with a rider who once intentionally executed a practise start during live qualifying to upset his rivals laptimes - although there's nothing in the slightest bit clever about that.
I had the pleasure of watching the race while texting back and forth with Austin. You really do need to update yourself on the latest mobile technology my friend.
Well, it’s too much to list here my thoughts that I shared with Austin, so I'll summarize.
I hate Monza. I repeat, I hate Monza. How the .... does that first turn chicane still exist? How the .... do they justify lawn signs? How the .... do they justify steel railing with grass separating the tarmac and your death? .... Monza.
I contend Leon Haslam has been the best rider two years running; but is getting ...... on 2nd tier machinery. Actually, three years running barring Spies. Put the lad on something established, front-runner Duc, Aprillia, or Yamaha, and watch him win a title. The great battle in race 2 which surely Haslam would have been part of was denied to us all thanks to the insane turn one chicane. .... you Monza!
Biaggi, sure he got ...... out of a result, but he's not exactly blameless. He wasn't the only one to short cut this ridiculous pathetic circuit which offers these side streets (in case your google maps didn't show the upcoming turn needing braking from 1000mph.) But for him not to make a federal gesture of slowing down enough so as not to garner attention from race direction is plumb dumb. Maybe he thought the 20-minute lead wouldn't be enough and couldn't risk bring that down to 10 minutes. But I'm quite happy it happened. It gave us a great race for the win and podium. The down side of course is that Rob is probably in a fetal position somewhere, crying that his once chance at showing how top speed and power really do win races wasn’t in the cards. Biaggi came in to the event as the double winner to elect, and he lost them both. Sorry Rob.
When I'm not rooting for Haslam, I'm rooting for Laverty. I notice that the Brit commentators were rooting for him too; I hope Viper-7 didn't watch the coverage, or we should expect 5 new threads chastising how the Brit coverage is dastard bias toward Brits. (Yeah, yeah, I know the man is listed as Irish, but really, from my ignorant American prospective, he’s a Brit.) Oh, and now that he's won two races, its time to start refusing a few GP wildcards son, this will guarantee your promotion to GP. (Oh, I kid the man, he’s my third favorite Brit).
LeviGarrett, I've said Haga is done. But he impressed me with his dogfight against Michelle. For a moment, he looked like the Haga of old (granted, the other two guys on Aprilias were well ahead of him, but that was only for a moment, as Creamer decided to highside his bike into the stratosphere and Biaggi went sight seeing.) So good on Haga...he ‘almost’ got on the podium.
