WSBK rd.4: Monza

LAVERTY

I'm so happy Max didn't win
<

Superb ride by Norge. I can't believe how fluidly he's adapted to the R1. I said the Yamaha's would be strong here - shouldn't have overlooked Eugene though.

As so often is the case, Max trips himself up and others around him - you could feel Haslam's frustration. Given the mistakes he made had he had been on any other bike would have probably been overcome by Rea and Corsa. I want a go on that RSV4.

Great ride by Rea, who put an incredible pass on Corser on the parabolica at one stage by holding an unfeasibly unconventional tight line all the way round.

Errm, it's slightly more involved than that at Monza Pov.

Oh i know, i race it all the time on GT5, it is slightly more involved, but not much. It is a wide open track that begs for top speed made apparent from the average mph lap speeds.I think everyone knew Ducati did not stand a chance at Monza.Biaggi continues his silly mistake filled season and very well could have lost the title today on a track that he should have gained huge points. I predicted he would gain only around twenty points this weekend, not because i thought Checa would do better than he did, but because i felt Biaggi would .... up, and he did. I have never seen a veteran rider look so out of sorts as Biaggi has this year. He has lost focus, or age is finally found him.

real racing today again

no pussie ....

a few cut the turn 1 going through the chicaine

did i hear it right Jack.Burnicle saying when max did it his lap time that lap was 0.4 faster than previous laps ?

if so what a ....... .the ride through was correct

Yep he did, should have stayed throttled off for a couple of secs stuck his hand in the air then carried on and won the race.

Awe inspiring race 2!!

Quite chuffed with my predictions his weekend..although the annual carnage at Variante Del Rettifilio was admittedly a no brainer. WSB racing just loves this place. It seemed that those who could run with Biaggi were eliminated early on, (and how good would this race have been with Rea and Haslam involved) but it transpired Laverty was on a mission. Biaggi, like Dani, normally doesn't make mistakes when he's racing the track. The first lap incident allowed him to get away, but he shat it - in an uncharacteristic unforced error. Last year Crutchlow had the better of him on the yam until his rear tyre got sprayed in coolant from a broken hose, this year Laverty was the Yamaha thorn in his side. In view of that, Max was gifted the second race.

I thought that Nori would have a part to play this weekend. He understandably lashed out at Camier, then later run wide by Fabrizio. Incredible move on Fabi when he cut back on the inside....Haga of old, great stuff.

Norge is now unquestionably a title contender.

Wasn't thrilled about the Biaggi penalty considering his lap was just .1 under the fastest lap at the time. He clearly let up, and from what I can understand it was Simon Crafar's ground rules for the first chicane that did him in. Bad situation all the way around.

Laverty had an unbelievable double. It's too bad he had some trouble earlier in the season or he might be a title contender.

Overall, it was just nice to see racing. Fabrizio and Haga were putting on quite a show in Race 2. Too bad MotoGP can't follow suit. People's minds would be blown.

Unbelievable race by Laverty. When I saw Biaggi in front of the second race, I was sure he would win, but when he is under pressure he makes mistakes, like he did with Rossi. After the ride through penalty, I hoped for Melandri to win, but Laverty was too strong on the brakes and won he second race too. Great job for him! He really deserves this win.

Well done Eugene. Great weekend and two quality rides. More of the same please

Biaggi got screwed, plain and simple, like him or not, that was not a ride thru penalty, if anything you adjust the time he gained from last lap which was what .02 of a second?

Good on Laverty!

Hell id say keep it, its part of what makes these races so enjoyable!

Ah, yes. Who doesn't enjoy the lottery of turn one at Monza? Everyone gets a chance to have appendages battered and championship aspirations skittled, it's fun for everyone. And if you're really lucky, you get a chance to play again in race two. Oh, Monza...

A harsh penalty, for sure. But Biaggi is old enough (and the theory would be that he's smart enough but I couldn't say for certain) to know that if he's run on there, that he can't make any sort of advantage. If you're five seconds up, why not shut it off for a fraction of a moment longer, just to be on the safe side? Like I said, it was harsh, but I think this is just more careless Biaggi than anything. This season has been full of careless Biaggi.

Also, I've always been more impressed with Laverty than I have been with Crutchlow. Brilliant performances from him today. I await my lashings from the UK contingent.

Ok, I read on Crash.net that Biaggi wasn't penalized for blowing the chicane and failing to slow to offset the advantage but crossed a line or a blend line where he's suposed to re-enter the track, this line is for the safety of the riders...umm...where does it matter where you blend when there is no one within 4.5 seconds of you?

I'm sure many are reveling in Biaggi's misfortunes today, but damn, a ride thru for going over a painted line?

Anyone else have additional information about this rule Biaggi broke?

Why does Rea always have to do those idiotic gestures? Very much dislike him for that, just when he started to grow on me this season.

The punishment certainly didn't fit the crime, but Max cut accross the line and re-entered the circuit despite knowing the rule, and in addition to this the run off probably benifitted him timewise so however negligible this was possibly contributed to the penalty.

Like I said, Max doesn't generally make unforced errors - he tends to cave in under pressure, with other riders around him - often in the form of outbraking himself. Like Dani Max likes to race the track, so this was uncharacteristic and cost him valuable points (he say's from the comfort of his armchair). I really wanted him to ignore the ride in and get black flagged again.

Throughout the weekend riders were running off in all classes due to the sheer speed of the circuit. I noticed for the large part the care taken in rejoining the race in respect to other riders. Max is notorious for running off and jst barreling back on track irrespective of the riders around him - and as we all know cruising on the race line during practise and qualifying. ....! he even chose to do a practise start during live qualifying at Assen in 2005. Following his race spoiling tactics in Race 1 it was quite fitting I thought.

Call it Karma.
