Biaggi vs. Melandri vs. Checa

www.motoweblog.com

Biaggi has the horse power under his seat, brakes better than most, likes this track and has a good history here.

Melandri has the guts to do the job, the desire to kick Biaggis assy', has a bike that is smooth with the tires, but does not know the track at all. He has a PS3 at his disposal, I hope.

Checa is the guy to beat this beginning of the season

But will he have the straight line speed? No doubt a quick visit to Bologna will be on the agenda before they arrive at the circuit.

Melandri has a great chance. You can chuck a stone at the Yamaha Italia workshops from the parabolica - this is their back yard. Not only that, but Marco's home turf. I do agree though, you have to fancy Max's chances. Dark horse - Haga,, also loves this place.

Let's hope that everyone avoids the customary first lap carnage of Variante Del Retifino.

That is right, sheer speed and power is the most important factor here. We will have to wait and see if the Roman Emperor will have the focus to do the job.

I think the first chicane has been changed, so a first lap carnage is less likely, right?

I think it was recently modified and is now less severe but en-masse riders still trip up going through it.

WSBK use to be the drama free zone, that is until GP exiles started to talk ..... I want a drama free weekend of good racing, period. No .... talking or soap opera .........

Go Haslam!

<

i think haslam might have a good shot for securing bmws first win there. even though i can't quite still figure out why the bmw hasn't got any speed advantage over the aprilia (compare that to the production bikes
<
<
) it should be up there in the topspeeds. also i guess since there aren't any long fast corners except the parabolika ,the bmws horrendous tyre wear shouldn't be as big of a problem as on many other tracks

haslam has got what it takes to join the battle between checa biaggi and melandri anyways in my opinion

i wouldn't worry about ducati. even if the twin produces a little less top end than the v4 and L4 engines, it takes great care of its tyres and has massive acceleration.it surely will be competitive

I don't see anyone beating Biaggi this weekend. They had a test about a week ago with a new engine. Expect him to break his 204mph record this weekend. The bike is just too fast to be caught at such a horsepower hungry circuit.

The bike has a powerful engine, a small frontal area (so it appears), and a small, lightweight rider. Unless Biaggi has a problem, he should take down both races.

The interesting storyline will be Melandri and the Kawasakis. Melandri hasn't ridden the track since 1996, and chassis setup isn't terribly important so the Kwaks generally go a little bit better at Monza than other rounds. Keep your eyes on Lascorz.

Biaggi, hard to bet against.

Although BMW might bring something this weekend.

Checa will just have to get whatever is available.

Checa admits that he will have to work on the bike so that he loses as little as possible on the straights. But I think Aprilia will fly. We will have to wait and see.

Looking forward to this weekend. i don't think Yamaha have the juice to go with the Aprilla on the long straight. The Kwaks and BMWs still can't figure out how to get their tires to last race distance. I think its going to be an Aprilla walk away, watch out for Haga. Checa and Ducati is going to have to come up with something crazy.

Biaggi 205 mph
<

Checa 198 mph.

To be honest, i thought it might be a larger difference

Biaggi playing with everyone in the first practice.

I noticed Rea wasn't mentioned in some of the above posts....he might have a say in who takes the top spot.

i like the track & hope to see some good racing

and its free on Eurosport germany too this weekend astra19.2e

WSBK use to be the drama free zone, that is until GP exiles started to talk .....

I don't think its about GP racing backgrounds, i think it might be because the proportion of the front runners from Latin Europe is increasing.

Aprilia is super fast on the straights so Biaggi will probably win it. Rea, the BMWs and maybe a Yamaha will battle for podium places. Checa will do well if he finishes in top5.
