WSBK Qatar Race 1&2

Hurricanes are ranked by the wind speeds they produce. Tornadoes are ranked by the amount of damage they do.

Ben "F5" Spies is destroying the entire paddock.

Two superpoles on the bounce.

This from motogpmatters.com, pretty cool.

"...At the end of the session, it was the increasingly impressive Ben Spies who took his second pole in a row with a lap of 1'57.280 - a time that would have put him ahead of 10 MotoGP riders at the tests run here under the floodlights last week...."

Granted that Spies was on qualy's and the GP riders on race rubber, still...

Dorna must be shitting their pants. And cursing Suzuki for not bringing him on with a third bike.

Last years GP pole with Q's was 153.9. Still very impressive.Like someone said on another board, the front shocks on a GP bike cost what a Superbike does.Probably a slight exaggeration, but the point was made.

Unlike MotoGP, 1 or 2 races without points in WSBK typically doesn't mean you are out of contention, thanks to there being 28 total races during the year (14 rounds). Haga also is bound to have a few offs or DNF's, it's just his luck. You never really know. Let's just hope the whole thing comes down to the final round at Portimao!

Matter of fact, there wasn't a single rider last year in the Top 10 who had less than 2 DNF's over the entire season last year.

So I'm learning...It's one of the reasons I'm way excited about WSBK. I feel like a kid who just learned how to ..........! I can't believe this has been around so long and I never really got into it! I've been missing out...

Neuki especially. He will be top ten in the race but what happened to these guys in Q?

Good to see Xaus back out there, I never heard the extent of his injuries.

Spies to be fourth going into turn one. Those Ducatis can really get off the line.

From the little bit I read at GPmatters, it sounded like all three were sandbagging or at the very least trying to conserve tires for the final two rounds of Superpole. They miscalculated and got left out. Really too bad for Rea as it looked like he has a race pace to run at the front. IIRC Haslam was a bit off the pace, same as Max. I'm less certain about the pace of Haslam and Max.

I think that it was 2-3 days after the race. I know it wasn't anytime soon after the race.

Great to see Shakey and Sykes up there, and the two Aprilia's right up front again.
Another great showing from Smrz too - I just hope he can convert it into a podium or two now.

Also, whatever happened to Alex Polita? Last I heard he was supposed to be on the other Sterilgarda bike, but I've not seen any trace of him anywhere this year.

I'm very impressed with what Spies are doing, to say the least.
A point I havn't seen here is that Spies passed the line for a hot lap with 3 sec left of the session on what could only be a q-tire, but got signed that no one could tuch him and cruised around as there were no need for another lap. That means that he didn't use q-tires until he went out in the third and final session.

Another sign of the way things are going perhaps, that the premier/prototype/development series no longer has q-tyres, while wsbk can apparently still afford such a luxury (not that dispensing with q-tyres is necessarily a bad idea in general).

I thought it was odd he went out again at the end, as I assumed he'd used one qualifier already, but I suppose it explains him only being 7th in session 2.

Other than a few wild-cards at their home races I can't think of anyone I've seen make this sort of impact in WSB right away. If he's this good now what's he gonna be like with a bit more experience, and at tracks he knows?

Sterilgarda ran out of money to run two bikes. They hope to be able to run Polita starting with the first euro rounds but we will see. Shame really.
