WSBK: Donington Park 2012

OK. After thinking a bit more, I've got to give Rea 2/3 of the 'credit.'

That was a damn skinny chute to dive into, and he had no way of guaranteeing that he'd be safely alongside before Haslam closed the door. "Last-lap" and all that, but his move just begged for an eventual collision.

Its a fine line bro. Im for close racing, im for showing wheeles and challenging riders, but when u see a guy already .... up by trying an impossible dive then running wide, then try it again, thats amateur. Thats arrogance NOT racecraft or close racing. I know ur being funny, but u wernt laughing when Rossi did similar move on Stoner.

Mate, I am simply taking the piss, no more and no less.

The comment was directed to see what bite it would get from those that had actually been advocating that 'fairing bashing' was what they wanted to see.

As I said after Rossi v Stoner at Jerez, (as I assume it is this incident to which you refer) that was a racing incident, no more and no less and no malice at all intended from Rossi.

With regards to the WSBK incident I have not seen all angles as yet so am reserving judgement somewhat as it is my simplistic belief that where you get constant fairing bashing racing you do and will get moves that are extremely borderline. Some of these moves will have no adverse results, some will push riders off track and subsequently cost them time, and other moves will result in gravel rash. Whing, whine and whistle all we like but that is the result of fairing bashing racing that goes unpunished and unchecked, and yet we whinge, whine and whistle when we get clean racing ................. which way do we want it?

Geo, i agree, i just tortured myself in watching it in superslowmo. I was so upset when it happened but ate lots of ice cream to get my mind off it, now im "pissed" again (gaz, where im from that means livid angry, i dont really get what 'taking the piss' is, im assuming from its use by my UK brethren, it means ur ....... with me in a lighthearted way).

Geo, u said Haslam was too wide, i say he was line correct. Take another look but this time contrast Reas line with Biaggi. Notice Biaggi is following Haslams line, where Rea is first following Haslams, but once Melandri dive bombs, Rea follows suit. When the camera angle switches to the front view, compare Biaggis correct trajectory following Haslams, to run away train Rea.

....!

Ok, so this other point about having a dog in this fight. Im obviously worked up by being a Haslam fanboy, but that may actually lend itself for paying more attention to his plight. The commentator says as its happening "there will be a stewarts inquiry on that one im sure of it". How race direction didnt pull Reas win makes the series a mockery. I get the feeling Rea & Melandri are too big in terms of market for the politics machine to saction them. If not. Melandri, certainly Rea, as ther was NO gap. In watching the replay in superslowmo, the force in which Rea hits Haslam is so brut it causes Reas bike to close in, that is, without that backstop in the form of Leon, Rea would have run wide. How this can be deemed a regular hard pass is damn stupid. In theory, any rider wanting to advance into a corner can then legally ram the lead rider inside and advance with impunity. Then for that turkey face looking ...... to stand up in the post race i terview and say he saw a "gap" and took it, what a ....... turd. And race direction for not pulling his "win" and points.

Yeah mate, to Aussies it also means 'having light hearted fun'

Damn and bloody language barriers

Quite staggering that Rea got away with that without penalty. Sends the wrong message.

Pretty much bunted the leader off the track & into another rider. Thank god nobody else was on that line behind him or it could have been very ugly.

I thought it was Reas fault. I have watched him race for a few years and these moves are nothing new. He was just lucky as hell Haslam was there to stop him from drifting wide.

I have seen the Melandri move attempted in all levels of racing. He gave it a shot and didn't cause Haslam any harm IMO although maybe accomplishing what he wanted in disrupting his focus for a few seconds. Haslem stayed cool enough and was going to take the win easy when Rea charged into no existent space.

Rea shouldn't be awarded that win.

agreed

melandris line was impossible but i don't see how that would have cost haslam the win, in the worst case they both would have been out accelerated by the other riders on the inside and i even doubt that

as much as i'm a fan of rea, he was the guy that send melandri into haslam so at least 2/3 credit there

Leon has said it wasn't Rea's fault , he blamed Melandi, i think he should know better than some on this board.

Two great races. Too bad about that last lap pass. Happened so fast I wasn't really sure who knocked them down. Never seen Haslam so aggressive. Loved it. ....... Melandri.... seems like he's gotten more cutthroat since coming to WSBK. Rea was impressive - even if he did screw up in that last lap.

TBH Kesh I put full blame on Melandri.

If he hadn't have executed a bonzi last minute dive inside Haslam, Haslam would not have to stand the bike up briefly like he did.

When Jonny Rea saw the gap appear he went for it as it was getting closed again, by that time he was already committed to the pass.

Racing Incident started by Melandri IMHO.

All that passing and rubbing of fairings reminded me of a pack of wild dogs in heat. Someone was bound to get nipped.

Leon had his ... handed by his team mate in race one, at his home round, while losing out on the 'first win' battle that was so all important to BMW. So he has a pretty good reason to blame Melandri instead of Rea for what happened in race 2.

watched it again a couple of times, melandri was nowhere near haslam, he overshot the corner without messing up leon. how marco can be blamed for rea diving into a not existing place is beyond my comprehension

rea pulled a classic jerez 05 move, nothing more nothing less

i can understand haslam though, if my team mate scored the first win for the team i'd try anything to establish myself as top dog too

Boy are there some hypocrits on this board. Last week some were questioning Lorenzo's manhood for not sticking his nose into holes that didnt exist. Now Johnny Rea is a mindless cretin for doing just that. People view racing incidents based on who they are pulling for, pure and simple.

Troll. This is a Wsbk thread where people contribute meaningfully. Don't confuse or create these into GP threads.

just watched race 2 and loved it. With 4 guys all close to the win so close to the finish line of course the gloves are going to come off

like my boy Keshav said it was like a pack of wild dogs after a ......

IMO Melandri ...... himself and went wide while diving in for the WIN therefore causing him to get collected while Rea took the chance and took out Haslam for the WIN and Haslam got the short end of the stick trying to keep the right race line for the WIN

The real winner here was Tom Sykes

After all the ........ is set aside It was a Very entertaining race with 3 different manufactuers all fighting for the win on the last lap of the last corner something I doubt we will see in that parade called Moto GP this year

Jumkie have you ever considered switching careers and becoming a race steward?

Great Superbike races! I love it when I have to get up out of my couch in the last laps...I was surprised at those last couple corner moves from Melandri at the end..I'm like, what?, why? stop! But all in all Great entertainment.

And good on Biaggi for keeping cool and picking up the pieces.

Well the pay check must not be as Secure, Steady, or Big as it was in Moto Gp. Plus he's no spring chicken. He knows his options are getting smaller and he has to win more.

Plus He's Italian, Most of the Italian racers tend to race on the rough and/or dirty side

Awesome weekend at the track. Thanks go out to Lil Red for his company and hospitality ! Still wounded about Haslam.

Melandri was never gonna make a pass stick from that far back going into the notoriously dodgy Goddards corner. Think his running deep, sat Leon up a bit and gave johnny the idea that a gap was there.

Way to bias, and has the emotions of a 14 year old girl, never gonna happen.
