Ducati is now reporting they have no new plans to move more bikes to Open class....so it may be just Dovi hoping to go to the open class....and perhaps he is looking to flap his mouth more so that he gets fired in 2014 from Ducati.... :)

Not sure what more Dovi can say, though. He's already said in an interview that the people working on the bikes are idiots who don't know how to do anything.

If Ducati is seriously considering going the open class, I don't think they would declare it til the last second.  I don't know when that day is, but it would be wise to hold it close to the chest.  It does make sense for them to go that route.  Get the chassis sorted, the motor, the everything.  ONce those things are solid, then go to a factory ECU.  The MM ECU is also tunable, and they did say there will be room for development so...?  The only thing that is going to keep them from it is their Italian Pride. Unless they have already taken Honda's outreached hand to help, it makes perfect sense to me that they would go Open for this year and get the new bike sorted.

Being that Magnetti Marelli, I wonder how mouch familiaity Ducati have with them.  I'm sure there could be a couple of ex-engineers at either company.

Plus both being Italian, I wonder how much more Magnetti Marelli would be recepttive to Ducati's needs

I guess they will test both options early in winter testing & see which way may be the better option. If they can get the open class configuration to be competitive then getting a head start on the competition might be adventagious in the long run. Because I think this is the direction Dorna want to go in the future.

Huge familiarity. Back in 2007 the boppers were saying how good Stoners Marelli system was ....... then it was pointed out that Rossi uses the same electronics.

ie. Ducati have been programming a Marelli system since before Stoner.

Lorenzo and Yamaha are of course denying this report. Can't imagine JLo would go to Ducati for any amount of money, not after what Vale went through there.

Lorenzo will believe without a scintilla of doubt that he is better than Rossi and that he could win on the Ducati. We're not dealing with a normal person who constrains themselves with things like self-doubt.

I'd like to see JLo give it a go, if nothing else to measure his talent against Stoners...

Far too long has passed for that comparison to be relevant, even comparing his fortunes to Rossi would be a stretch.

He is better than Rossi, he knows it. But the leap from there to 'able to win with Ducati' is a huge one still.

and now Lorenzo is linked to a move to Ducati

What we are actually seeing/reading is the beginning of Lorenzo's management team's public and private lobbying, promoting, maneuvering, leveraging of Jorge's assets prior to negotiating with Yamaha. Let's be serious kids, only a tard would move from one of the championship-capable factory teams to Ducati for ANY price at this juncture. (2015).

I personally think Yamaha will pay him the big bucks without all the posturing from him or his mgt team. They know he is the only rider alive at the moment that can possibly keep Marquez from running off 3-4 titles in a row.

QFT. All the money in the world isn't worth the ulcers you'd get from riding a 200+ MPH bike that refuses to turn when you tell it to.

I can't see him signing anything with any team at this point in time. Honda have been rather open about considering him as a Pedrosa replacement, Yamaha have big interest in keeping him, so he would watch these strings unfold for a bit rather than already signing for one team now, as this would clearly hurt his position in the negotiations. plus, why should he sign with Ducati? Yamaha probably, and Honda for sure are willing to pay him huge amounts of money, and there is no reason to commit to the career wrecking crew, in particular not having seen yet that the new bike and management are in any way an improvement over the current state of affairs.

If at Ducati they were still thinking that a new rider, - any rider, - could solve their problems, then there would definitely be something incurably wrong with them.

Not that I believe the story to be true but....

I am sure that those on the inside know more than we do or even the journo's so, if there is some chance that Ducati will turn things around in the next 12mths and once again outsmart the Japs then riding a Ducati in 2015 could prove to be a stroke of genius.

What is the advantage that Yamaha and Honda have over the Ducati if you break a MotoGP bike down into 3 simple components being Engine Chassis Electronics?

Chassis and Electronics would be my answer.  Well very soon electronics advantages are going to be a thing of the past when they all go control spec ecu and software.  How much impact will this have on the Yamaha Chassis?  I would suggest a huge impact and we all know that Yamaha don't have enough engine.  Marquez is staying at Honda so Lorenzo needs to make a decision.  Can I beat Marquez on equal equipment? If he thinks yes then he can go to Honda.

If he doubts himself then he needs to consider staying at Yamaha or going elsewhere.  Lorenzo knows how much he relies on the Yamaha electronics, so perhaps he is thinking he needs to go searching for a bigger engine which Ducati have always had and then trust that they are going to get the chassis sorted.

So perhaps the question going on in Lorenzo's mind is?  Where will Yamaha be when they can no longer supply an electronics package that can allow such high corner speed to make up for the lack of horses?  Will Yamaha's IL4 ever be able to produce the horsepower that can match that of the V4 of Honda and Ducati.  If not, then securing an option to go to Ducati early and therefore preventing Ducati from entering discussions with Pedrosa for example would be smart.
