I think the type of fans who would leave would be the ones who don't give riders credit for beating Rossi, and are the type who would boo riders like Pedrosa and Stoner. In that sense the sport may benefit from Rossi leaving.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TP70 @ Jul 2 2008, 12:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I hope Rossi doesn't go to WSBK because it would just .... it up. All the Rossi groupies would follow and then we would have to listen to all the ........ about how Rossi was only beaten because Bayliss has an advantage because of ..... and Haga has ..... etc etc.

WSBK is pure and for fans of racing. No groupies allowed!

On the other hand I would love for MotoGP to fall over as I can't stand Dorna and their corrupt blackmailing antics and unbelieveably stupid rules changes.
the highlighted bit is the only bit of your post i agree with, the rest is just pffft.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (bonnielass @ Jul 2 2008, 01:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I have know doubt that some fanboys would defect to WRC if Rossi went over, But a lot of us are race fans as well as Rossi fans, unfortunately you will always get the sado's who are so needy they have to support the winner, because that's the only way that they can feel like a winner themselves.

I am a big Rossi fan, but I've watched him since his 125cc days, I like him because he used to have weird colour hair and he was always messing around, I would have liked him just as much if he had lost every race, because he made me laugh!

When you have been in the same sport for so long, you will inevitably have a large band of loyal follower's, who get really up-set...dare I say down right aggressive... when some 5 miniute wonder of a fanboy comes on here and gives you a load of bull-....!

Agreed. But I don't think that the problem you mention is going to go away. No matter what, there is always going to be a crowd that blindly follows the most popular rider. After Rossi leaves, another rider will just assume the roll and the same mindless robots will be saying the same stuff....

Yea, Lorenzo, Bautista and Simoncelli are the biggest characters on their way up the ladder, so it'll probably coincide with whichever of them is most successful

Yeah for sure, you never know, if Casey or Dani continue on their pattern of success after Rossi retires, it could be one of them too....not by a fault of their own.....just the nature of the fan base I would say.....sucks though....

i dare say most will continue to support motogp and start showing an interest in rally. you can support more than one motor sport you know ! and these boo boys are a very smal;l number and every riders fans has them, not just rossi.

Oh of course you can.....speaking for myself, I was talking about the impact to MotoGP only....but for sure if Rossi decided to race in WRC, which is a great spectacle that I don't watch enough of...he'd probably positively influence their number of viewers.....lets just hope it wouldn't be due to fanlover gayness, but because he's good at it.........

I think there is a vague chance he would do alright
<
. I think there is very little chance he would actually do it. He probably has more money than the corleone brothers or whatever they are called in the first place, I doubt they could offer him money that would be at all meaningful to him even if he does care about money which I suspect he doesn't beyond a certain point, and as many others have said he has absolutely nothing to prove on a motorbike. Considering the pursuit of a wsbk championship as a worthy endeavour after all that he has achieved might also diminish his previous achievements in what he (and I) would probably consider real racing, ie motogp; then again he is a pure racer and may not be concerned with this.

I agree with others if he goes anywhere it will be to car racing of some description.

I hear ya...I agree I don't think for him its about the money....I think he'll always be attached to MotoGP in some way in either a technical advisor role or perhaps a rider coach...but in the off time, he'd probably go for something that is fun for him.....but for sure from 2 wheels to 4.....I've noticed that a large number if not all of the guys that go from GP back to WSBK seem to be the guys that felt they never got their big break in GP or never were on top....

It is hard to think of anyone who has gone from the top echelon of motogp/500 two stroke straight to wsbk. I watch and enjoy the races, but it doesn't engage my interest as much as motogp which may reflect a fault in my character rather than with WSBK.

The bottom line for me is that it is hard to make a case that troy bayliss, who surely must be considered among the best wsbk riders ever and of whom I am a huge fan, is in loris capirossi's class; I think vale is in another orbit.

I just thought of another juicy scenario.

Suppose Vale and Edwards head to WSBK and Edwards starts beating Vale routinely.

Then Vale ends up becoming Edwards test mule. What then?

it's good to have an active imagination, that's what i tell my kids anyway.

i think rossi will go into managing or even owning a team when he gives up riding. he has said he very much enjoys being his own manager now so he may start to see a new challenge ahead of him.

You guys really think Valentino wants to be some sort of suit? When he hangs up his leathers (officially), I don't think you'll find him anywhere near a paddock unless he's driving cars. I would imagine Rossi living out his days as some sort of beach bum.

Never know....I've always pictured him a paddock man....a guy that later in life will chill in the race scene somewhere.....

lets all hope VR doesnt leave soon.
He's not my favorite rider, but he has dominated GP for almost a decade, and dominance is good for any sport. iIt draws attentions which brings more fans, which brings in more $$, which draws more sponsors.........
just my opinion though
