What does Marquez have to do to be GOAT.

With his fourth championship this year seeming very likely I've been wondering what else does Marquez need to achieve to be in your opinion the GOAT.

I'm just interested to see what those far more knowledgable than me think.
 
No such thing as a GOAT in moto GP, different eras , machinery, competition levels etc, so Marquez will never be a GOAT because they don't exist!

Except in meadows chewing grass.

The term GOAT is bigger then achievements. Its thrown around to much. It about the total take over of a sport. From an economical stand point the sport will not be as good without you. In my lifetime I have only witnessed 2 goats in any sport. Micheal Jordan and Valentino Rossi. Love him or hate him his domination of the spot has lasted longer than his talent. Motogp will long rely on him for a long time yet. Greatest of all time should not be a term thrown around for the .... of it.

Mike Hailwood.

He was Mike the Bike. Rather more significant a title than Il Dottore in a bike racing conversation.

Rossi is to him as LeBron James is to Michael Jordan, which is not a knock on James or Rossi.

I don't think its as simple as who would win between the greats. Its bigger than that. The Crocktors over all domination of merchandise, media, rules, ect is why I say Rossi is the GOAT. The anti-goat but the goat none the less.

Remember, we have to use the Nick Harris Rossi benchmark. Marquez is a 5 time World Champion, with his 6th looking likely this yr.

On a sidenote, Nick Harris is retiring this yr, hopefully they have someone less Rossi obsessed in the booth.

Actually for me Marquez could take the GOATDOM NESS from Stoner with some more display of skills and when he shows he can win on say a Ducati or realistically it will need to be like a KTM or Aprilia.

Same with me actually, I have only read about him, I am old but not that old.

I have observed both Jordan and James however, and Jordan was definitely better imo good as James is, but many now apparently consider him a tale from old fogies who could not possibly be comparable with James, which is why I mention Hailwood. I guess my comparison is flawed though, because Hailwood was before the hype train, while Jordan was a large part of the beginning of the modern sports media and branding thing.

Rumor is redbull plans to throw tons of money to bring Marc to KTM 2019. No doubt fastest of all time is a two man race between Marc and Casey.

What stands out to me about Jordan, we are going off in a different direction here, is not jut his on court greatness but his selflessness and ability to know what moves to make on and off the court. Jordan constantly took pay cuts to keep the great player around him but more then made up the difference in smart advertising. He didn't advert anything only things that would be great. He invent the signature shoe as a way to make up for the loss in contract money. Thats a goat to me someone who has the ability to look far past the rest of us and see things we cannot.

His career was before my time, but having read so much about him, and how he was competitive in so many classes on so many different machines - compounded by how he lived his life AFAIK free of scandal and was loved and admired by all, he continues to be my benchmark for greatness.
 
Got to win the TT it's as simple as that, Hailwood, Ago, Duke, Surtees, they all did it.

Jordan was James equal in scoring, his superior on defense and much better in the clutch. Jordan's will to win also trumps James. Jordan played in an era where you got bludgeoned in the paint, now you can go venture into the lane with the knowledge that the slightest bump will be called. As talented as James is, I think he is a tad weak mentally and a bit of a whiner
