"Looks like Yamaha is pressuring Rossi to decide by Laguna. Honda option is not very probable. Yam or Duc? There are less risks at Yam."

It certainly is turning into quite a monumental decision-moreso like the last time Rossi made the switch to Yamaha.

Audi has made the choice rather difficult, and the promise of what could be if he stays, if Audi wasn't involved then it would be a clear cut move to Yamaha that probably would have happened already.

Right now you would have to think that they won't be able to update the current design enough to compete with the M1, and a monster effort would be required just to get on equal terms.

With each poor performance from Spies, Yamaha have obviously softened their stance on Rossis return, and they certainly shouldn't discount the possibilities for Honda in 2014 with the two Spaniardas........

I would still like to see Rossi back at Yamaha and sticking it to Jorge, for unless by some minor miracle I don't feel Ducati are up to it, even with Audi on board. It would be amazing to find out what they are promising Rossi now they've bypassed Corse (which is huge in itself) and what is required in the contract if VR does risk staying

As would I.

I am curious with yamaha already having Jorge and imo hes got the potential to dominate for the forseeable, what would yam have to gain by employing rossi again?

To name few would be, big name sponsors, lots of publicity, possible boost in sales, lots of 1-2 finishes, constructor championship and they can also use Rossi's image after his retirement.

I think it would be good for all three, rossi himself, yamaha and the sport if he was a yamaha icon in his retirement, like eddie lawson (despite his flirtations with honda and cagiva), except more so I guess. I am not so sure jorge could be absolutely confident if both were on equally resourced bikes anyway.

The new revelations from Burgess also go a long way to explaining Rossi's continuing difficulty with Qualifying and sometimes beating the other ducks, as certainly in the rather levelled wet at La Mans he proved himself to be the old 'Alien' again. For a rider and team that are known for pulling a rabbit out of the hat during a race weekend 'setup' wise.

The diaster of Qatar and Jerez 2012 certainly helps confirm this, when they had to return to the 'Ducati' setting which Hayden was doing well with. Its seems obvious now, with the new frame they tied themselves in knots trying to get the donk working in the chassis and lost their way completely. Hence the request for different engine covers etc. (promised at Lemans) to improve weight distribution options, which has probably been a request since December 2010.

It must be an incredibly frustrating time working with a manufacturer who doesn't react to your requests while the media and detractors are pulling apart your reputations, its a wonder Rossi has spoken out more this year, its amazing he hasn't said more. From JB's words IMO Ducati haven't yet provided the team with a prototype that can effectively re-distribute weight via setting changes alone. Which as we know is why the M1, and to an extent the Honda (though they just throw another new chassis at it) are such great machines. This type of engineering approach, if you can call it that, would certainly make your job difficult when you are renown as the best team on the grid.

J4rno said it last year. He is not going to risk killing himself, particulary in qualifying, to finish 6th rather than 7 or 8th. When he was on for a chance of a podium in the wet, and on bridgestone wets apparently of the old tyre design, he was right in the contest.

Apart from that, which also goes with his age, he has said that using soft tires does not help him at all, and while other Ducati riders can improve a lot in QP with them, he cannot. He mentioned after the last GP that the reason for that is his own style, that is "diametrally opposed" to the behavior of the Ducati... a behavior that becomes stronger with the extra grip of the soft tires.

Now at Mugello they were trying to relocate some weight more to the front, shifting the ECUs and the part of the fuel tank that still sits under the tank cover. But Rossi hardly tested any of that because one of the new ECUs falied and killed the engine in the middle of Correntaio, making him crash. Subsequently he packed and went home, stopping the tests short.

It's a good thing this wasn't Stoner, or we'd all be entreated to another rant about how he's a self-centered, spoiled brat.

The diff is Rossi goes home after the bike tries to kill him, Stoner goes home cause of milk

Ducati stopped the tests anyway after the ECU failure, so he just did not sit there waiting for them to understand what went wrong. And he wanted to go home after three consecutive weekends of racing and one day of tests with a crash due to a component's failure. Nothing too dramatic.

Ducati did not know what the cause of the failure was, and in the interests of safety, decided to not try it again at that test. Gone away to work on it in the hope of trying during, or after Laguna..

As that component was integral to the rest of the items on the test list, nothing new left to try.

I believe Hayden tested some new components, but seemed be testing in regards to chasing better set up/balance.

Rossi, whatever your thoughts on him may be, is pretty astute and seems to have a consistant baseline in regards to that aspect of the bike. He might qualify worse for the reasons stated in posts above........but he's with all the others (Ducs) at race end.

Ah well, by all rumoured reports hitting the presses it is a done deal

Rossi to Yamaha Factory (being reported on a few sites - probably just doubling up, but rumoured Monster sponsorship but even that is varying)

Spies to Tech 3 due to Yamaha US

Crutchlow to Ducati

No mention of Hayden but that would indicate he stays at Ducati

No mention of JB
