do U think tobacco should be allowed to spend thiere advertising in motogp ? or any motorsport for that matter ? it seems to me that they should. after all i personally don't know of anyone who started smoking because of slick tobacco advertising. do u ? i started because my friends smoked. we really started out of curiosity & the need to be cool.

they are legal companies selling a legal product. we all know it's unhealthy but so are alot of things we eat drink or what ever. this pollitical corectness must stop. because after tobacco is gone booze will be next. because we know drinking makes alcoholics. then fast food because it's unheathy we eat to much of it get fat & sickly. when will it stop? what do u think??? ben i know this probably should be the lounge... sorry

our sport needs the money!

I agree, the whole banning tobacco advertising because it is unhealthy. They sell a legal product so it should be allowed to be advertised. I understand the product is illegal up to a certain age but so is alcohol yet that is legal to advertise. It's hypocracy and the tobacco companies should be able to advertise their product on MotoGP machines or Formula 1 cars if they want to.

i completely agree frost. The tobacco companies are not sending any subliminal messages or forcing you to try their product. If you have a problem with the sponsors or ads well then use your eyelids and dont look.

but if we were fish it would be a different story

I think tobacco advertising shouldn't be banned if tobacco itself is legal. It's a contradiction. Gov tells us tobacco is very bad but let's us buy it?
<

I think governments (i.e. UK) rely so much on the money they get from the insane taxes they put on tobacco that they just can't ban it altogether.

The results of these laws are sometimes ridiculous, I read that some French newspapers got fined because in the pictures of the sports section tobacco liveried cars appeared.

I'm against smoking, so for me it's ok if they bann tabacco sponsers. I'm so against smoking that I even let my mom smoke outside in the winter. people should be aloud to smoke though, it's legal, but the less sponsers/reclame, the better

Hey nice to have you back!! Your brothers a top bloke you know!!!

As for tobacco, yep I think it should be allowed!! (although I really don't want to think of smoking right now

)

haha umm i dont know about that kath. thatd be kinda wierd. you can jump the pond and do it yourself!

Oh no, look at you lot, putting your own self interest above the overall good and well being of your fellow man/woman son or daughter. You guys need to have a close look at yourselves. Now I'm not a PC kinda guy and not one for jumping on bandwagons, but really ya have to look at the facts of the situation the bottom line is SMOKING KILLS PEOPLE.

Now before killing people it makes them really sick and causes huge cost to the health system, now you may live in a country where the Gov does not pay for the health system, but I do, now I don't want my tax dollar going to pay for some stupid bastrads health problems from smoking ( I'm to much of a tight arss for that ) I'd much rather it go on other things than smokers.

Also the less advertising of tobacco around the place the better chance the most precious things in my life will not get involved with the filthy habit. Hope my 2 daughters stay away from the ..... Now some of you are a bit younger side and obviously don't have kids but when you do you will understand. The ones the kids should know better than to stick up for tobacco.

Now tobacco advertising in sport has been on the decline for a while now, and other sports have made the change some with a bit of pain, generally all have made it, its just time for MotoGP to suck it in and make the change, it will happen, all the this whinging by you guys is really a bit self centered, its a legal product, really so are ....... gun's in some cuntries.

This such a painful whinge by you guys its sucking up to much bandwith, so move on.

I'm pissed off, my fav sport is suffering due to this laws and I'm too much of a self centred ....... to care about smokers health. I have a right to whinge !!!

oh marbs no time for soapbox preaching. people are gonna smoke advertising or no. let them spend thier money in our sport! it's up to ur daughters not to smoke & i don't think ads on the sides of bikes will convince them to do so.
<

Oh you self centered one eyed monsters gather round for another day of soapbox preaching

You childrenless inderviduals, are a disgrace I know my daughters will not start smoking because of advertising on the side of motobikes, its a minority sport in this country thats not the point, but if you can't see the bigger picture you guys.

mmmm have to drag this thread up in 2 years time for embarassment purposes. When MotoGP advertising is all sorted and no tobacco ad's and everthing is sweet, you will look like real arses then

Don't get me wrong Marbs I would love to see tobacco advertising gone from motorsports. However, as of right now money is tight in the sport and there don't seem to be many other options outside of tobacco. Once telecommunications follow Telefonica's lead into the sport then things should sort tobacco out but until then we have little choice. And in my honest opinion if the reason for someone to start smoking Gauloises is because they are on the side of Valentino Rossi's bike then there are some deeper issues involved. I've been exposed to tobacco ads in motorsports for quite some time, I grew up watching NASCAR Winston Cup, the Lucky Strike Suzuki of Kevin Schwantz, Marlboro Yamaha of Wayne Rainey, Smoking Joe's Honda of Miguel Duhamel, L&M Ducati of Ben Bostrom, up to today's tobacco teams, Marlboro Ducati, Fortuna Honda, Marlboro Ferrari, Lucky Strike Honda F1, everything. I don't smoke. Money's money and until motorsports find new sponsors in different markets tobacco will remain in the sport.

Agree with ya there Ooost, but its a sports wide thig that slowly but surely its been banned in every sport, I kow the US is still pretty lax but europe has new laws on it now. MotoGP just can't step outside the realm of the rest of the sporting world that would be even worse, and end up with an even worse look that sponsors will not want to be associated with. Its just a bad time, like other sports have been though, just have to bite the bullet, it will sort it self.

Trust me Mr Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki will not let MotoGP fall over its to important to them, and as I've read else where before, the other sponsors are really secondary to the amount on money the factories put in. If the sport was in danger the factories would be giving away the bikes to teams or even providing sweeteners as well.

The Factories need MotoGP and even WSBK for that matter

actually marbs they are real strict here on tobacco advertising. they'er not allowed to put ads anywhere anymore. tv, magazines , billboards nothing.

That's a good point Marbs, and just so you know, I agree with you. I am a childless ......., but im totally against smoking. It's disgusting and deadly. Yes, the sin stick companies are putting a lot of money into motoGP at the moment, but if they were doing such a good job as sponsors, why has Pons pulled out? How come the Factory Yamahas are without a sponsor right now? What will become of Tech 3?
I say the sooner Tobacco companies are replaced, the better.
