Crashnet which I commonly peruse for amusement value has gone weird; they now appear to be aggressively deleting anti-stoner posts in preference to deleting anti-rossi posts, which has not always (from my point of view anyway) been their policy.

I strongly disapprove of that which those apparently teenage or pre-teen rossi fans were wont to say, but I defend to the death their right to say it

I wish people really felt this way, but the way they give way to political correctness and the speech police, i have my doubts. Just the other day in the UK, a family of a 7 year old kid were told thay would have to brand their kid as a racist for asking a classmate if he was brown because he was from Africa. The parents rightfully told them to stick their form up their ..., that they would not sign a document labeling their child as a racist for asking an inquisitive question. In a previous thread, there were some on here who thought it would be a good idea to tar and feather Terry Jones for exercising his freedom of speech. You might not like what some people say, but you should be willing to defend to the death their right to say it. Some peoples fear of death and cowardice, is what power hungry governments pray on. When it comes right down to it, i wonder how many would chose silent bondage just to stay alive.

Sorry to burst your bubble Mick.....we all want Stoner to become more popular

....however there is a more logical explanation, just refresh the Home page a few times, I couldn't help but notice the big 'H' running huge ad's all over it and in Monopoly-and all over the story pages, and all over the forum pages....money talks-at present it looks like crash has to appease its main contributor

You missed my point as you often do. I thought there was some ulterior motive to what they were doing, perhaps political correctness as povol said, and your theory that there has been some interaction with honda is plausible.

I actually am happy for rabid anti-stoner stuff to continue; even apart from my fundamental belief in free speech, it demonstrates how much stoner's success has annoyed such people and it is fun to shoot down the arguments, not that I post on crashnet. I don't care about stoner's popularity either; attempts to deny or detract from his achievements are what annoy me, and it would seem him.

I noticed on gpone the other day that they where running a few articles on a new Honda adventure tourer.

My first thought was. .......... "well, we can see who got a new freebee moto"

Not at all, I fully realized your point, however this is far simpler than your theories based on your personal view of taking solice in your sometimes deluded, yet ultimately respectable consistent defense of one Casey Stoner..... The removal of such posts leaves this rather large section of your argument and pov, even if used elsewhere, somewhat redundant, and your right people have a right to dislike stoner, and a right to post their pov and not have it removed because Casey's employers are paying the bills, and need to work quite hard to improve his pr. Cudous to them as it desperately needs to be done, and should have been done years ago, however not like this

Crashes current actions are probably motivated from the well funded 'factions'

although in this case big ads dont allow them to be 'faceless'

Sure, I am absolutely against censorship and believe all opinions should be able to be freely expressed, while of course maintaining my right to freely disagree with them. Perhaps it is reasonable to delete the more blatant name calling and expletives.

My (obviously delusional) view is that for such people he has disrespected the sport by daring to beat somewhat repetitively its most popular and successful competitor, and the only action of stoner's that would meet with any approval from them would be for him to desist from doing so.

Last time I checked crash.net was a privately owned forum and therefore they can do what they want. The same would apply if I walked into your house and called your wife a skanky whore, you would be within your rights to kick me out. As far as a website doing something to favour an advertiser well wouldn't you if you were operating a forum and trying to make money and a company like Honda said that we will give you $x in advertising but we are not happy with the anti-our rider comments. Do you think you would say "piss off I don't want your money"?

People need a reality check if they think Free Speech exists. Free Speech in America will get you thrown in Gitmo with no legal representation and no charges for a decade.

You can't help but recognize the fact though that Jorge Lorenzo has also beaten one VR very well, and very recently, and Nicky Hayden, and to a smaller extent Dani, Sete, Loris, Barros, Biaggi, Dovi, Spies etc.........agreed only a couple of these riders are considered at present to be potentially faster than Rossi. But using Jorge as an example, he has beaten Rossi and come out with far less reprisal from the VR fans-if any-there is good reason for this. Whereas Casey is disliked by many non-Rossi fans on top of his legion of detractors from the Rossi camp. You cannot use the 'He Beat Rossi' excuse anymore my friend, one day you'll have to admit that Casey is a very, very acquired taste supported by a very small but potent (mostly deluded

You now are directly at our point of difference, and are also revising history somewhat imo. There is pretty good evidence that anyone who competes with rossi at all, and certainly anyone who dares to actually win races against him, attracts a fair amount of hatred. Certainly max and sete with relatively minor sucess were hated, as was elias for winning one race, and hayden attracted disdain and detraction if not outright hatred for winning a championship. I recall a fair amount of anti-lorenzo sentiment in 2009, perhaps diminished a little because rossi's injuries provided an obvious explanation for not defending his championship, as opposed to stoner straight out beating him for his 2 championships.

You speak of non-rossi fans; there were few such prior to 2007 especially on UK forums, and he gave his fans every reason to be fans. This doesn't mean stoner shouldn't be allowed to win though as this is a real sport. I think stoner has no choices other than winning and being hated or being unsuccessful. What was arrogant about his behaviour in 2007 btw?

To get into the realm of the psychological speculation which I usually resist but will at least confine to the rabid among rossi fans, there seems to be a significant element among rossi fans who are not content with him being a great rider and probably still the greatest ever, but also want to see him as a mythic superhero, a view which stoner's considerable success against him makes it difficult to sustain.

Methinks you very much overestimate the allure of Rossi to true moto racing fans as opposed to waves of moto-boppers tht come and go like the wind! In '06 I was a Nicky fan (love the underdog!), '00 to '05 I liked Checa and Capirossi!!

Sure, I went for nicky for similar reasons in 2006, and because I was a fan from the replays of his AMA superbike races we got in australia.

Talpa among others may not believe me, but I never really supported any other rider against rossi prior to 2006, other than garry mccoy who was never a realistic threat; apart from patriotism I loved watching that guy ride on that bike basically brought to the track in a car boot, particularly in the races he won, inconsistent though it was with longevity.

Terry Jones was not censured for excercising freedom of speech. He was censured for being a bigoted red-neck.

I don't care for the crap that comes out of the mouth of Madonna and all the insipid disco ..... - but they aren't

causing inciting hatred and the deaths of innocent people. The right to free speech is a powerful tool. And as they

say, with great power comes great responsibility.

BTW - I have never been tempted to look at Crashnet.

Crash deleted my posts just for the fact that i was offering advice for the Ducati team on how to get the most out of their motogp bikes. e.g boyson power reeds make a dramatic difference to throttle response( they did in my kx125 works replica) and on my drz400 when i drilled holes in the airbox i got at least another 10hp out of her. Just remember to cover the holes with mesh so bugs don't get in. Anyway f#/ crash i reckon, i just email the factory teams direct now and ask for nothing in return.
