Stoner threatens to leave MotoGP over rules

Grow the sport. Hold a gp in Canada for example. Check out the places F1 goes during the season. Give some test opportunities to local racers, in case they unearth a special talent out of no-where, like when Bayliss got a ride on the 250cc Suzuki at PI.

I've often wondered why there's no MotoGP in Canada. There's plenty of club racing and ....-loads of sportbike enthusiasts up there; not to mention a healthy economy.

Thanks for your insight to the debate.

Dont worry, im sure the thread will return to stoner worship soon enough.

My bad....I thought this was the stoner bashing thread. Thanks for the insight.

I just can't take the Stoner bashing seriously. All this sour grapes is so transparent and childish that it just doesn't seem worth commenting on.

You are jumping to conclusions aren't you? While the Ducati has issues in some ways it has always had a better engine and more capability if someone could ride it like stoner. The Yamaha was at its potential for years. If the Yamaha and Ducati are being ridden at their potential, a comparison can be made. Rossi was ahead after this. Not withstanding that stoner was riding a more difficult bike. Now they have changed and Rossi is riding a bike that he 's not getting the potential out of while stoner is getting the potential out of his. Stoner has now passed rossi's record over the time they were competing together but he didn't do it while Rossi was on a bike he was comfortable with. Stoner's record shows that he would have struggled for a win in 2011 if still on the Ducati. He was heading backwards the more time he spent on it while the Honda is the bike to be on.

Mr Squiggle, you really don't like it when someone doesn't agree with your take. I'm waiting for the insults in the next post. I'm simply stating facts.

So are you using Stoners rookie year on a satellite bike in your equation, or just the 800 era when both are on factory equipment. If we are counting the years where both are on factory equipment, Stoner had more wins, even before he went to Honda

Nobody (especially this forum) but including Casey Ben Dovi and whoever else from within the sport has offered an opinion has come up with a reasonable alternative to CRT.

This is what I'd like to hear from the riders teams and Internet forum troglodytes - a solution.

I see your point andy.

D

Only 37 million people spread over world's second largest land mass next to world's largest market and majority of population can get to U.S. venues as easily as U.S. citizens... Plus we are having a hard time sustaining F1 which is much more popular with history in Canada (Mosport F1 and Can-Ams in the 60s).

Turbo Charging in MotoGP will never happen. You would need .... off big restrictors to keep power levels down, not to mention how you would fit a turbo as well as an intercooler in the fairing, V4's would probably be a thing of the past if it were to happen. Anyone remember the sort of hp figures F1 cars were putting out when they were Turbo charged?

Its about double standard. Downplaying the champ saying he might consider an early exit is news. For better or worse, the champ's words at any level is news. Suddenly its just hating or mountains out of mole hills, or as you put it "sour grapes" etc., but its just an attempt to downplay the comments that were out of wack (something not uncommon for Stoner). But its all comes down to double standards. So far just about every Stoner fan and the neo-bopper here has found nothing in his comments, yet the fact remains, he suggested an early exit (this is not disputed, is it?). Again, when the champion of a series says he considers leaving the sport for whatever reason, its news, and his intentions scrutinized. But you guys want to convince us it didn't happen, or its some ulterior motive we harbor? I'll tell you what is "transparent and childish", to read the man's comments and wholly dismiss it, or as is suggested, 'to read between the lines' on one hand but argue 'he's a straight talker' on the other, because its your guy saying it and find some way to downplay his words.

This point cannot be argued, so you guys turn to these options:

1. Downplay (Its nothing, no big deal)

2. Interpret his words ("read between the lines" Maybe he didn't mean it, except he says what he means...)

3. Its just Stoner hate (the favorite because its the easiest lazy option to discredit without alternated reason)

4. If you recognize he meant what he said, then the argument turns to his motives are lofty (double standard, see Rossi).

Why the .... do people care so much? First experience on a motorsport forum where literally everyone slags each other off to the extent where they have a genuine hate for one another/other opinions.

Where there's a will there's a way. As for restrictors, im sure a rev limiter would do. If you cap revs you cap power. I cant see where to put a turbo and intercooler being that much of a problem to be honest.

The fairing would have to swell, the manifolds would get all messy which would add balk, more chance of DI 2 strokes coming than turbocharging

I can see easily why you think this. However, having attended several forum meet-ups at GP events I can tell you that my personal experience has been anything but what you describe. Again, as a viewer of this forum, it's completely understandable to have come to this conclusion.

Again, I've met many members of this forum and every single one is someone I'd enjoy spending time with again in the future. We're certainly passionate and that occasionally has an ugly face but if you're ever fortunate enough to attend a meet-up, you'll be quite surprised by the camaraderie on display.

Try to make it to one of the GP's in 2012 and make it a point to advertise your desire to meet forum members here prior to attending. It will certainly add to your GP experience. It has for me on more than one occasion. In fact, I'd say that I've probably met lifelong friends on this forum.

Take a look at some of the meet-up threads for an intro...

Good to hear it chap, I for one certainly don't give a monkeys who likes who and Casey this/Rossi that. I'll definitely be at Silverstone, and possibly Assen or Valencia

I'm planning on Silverstone again in 2012. I'd like to make that a yearly pilgrimage however, I have to say, I think the summer weekend I spent in the UK was the coldest winter of my life!!

Literally the shittest weather we had all summer all culminated on that weekend, I remember swimming out there hating life and to add to my frustrations my bike wouldn't start.

Its not all hate and bitching, just read some social meet threads to see the fun had and respect for other members. Like anywhere there will allways be a few that like to feed of negitivity and some whoi dont really give a .... about the sport. They just follow one rider blindly like a teenage groupie. These are the Neo-boppers being mentioned in this thread. You will notice these people dont meet up . Their not interesed in the real part of powerslide. Just Keyboard warriors.

i'll say this..i wish i was able to retire on a moments notice

Dont be to harsh on the lad curve. He has never had a real job on regular pay. A family to feed and a mortgage to pay. You cant expect him to realise how lucky he is when he has never experianced adulthood like the rest of us.

Would you expect Paris Hilton to understand the single mum working on the supermarket checkout ?
