Someone to look out for.

Sloth, yes. And it pisses me off that Dorna 'requires' (though im sure u like Hawk will retort u didnt read this "required" in the press release) these kids to uproot their families and fortune to compete in an overrated artificial hyped series as their 'only' reasonable chance at an opportunity for GP glory...then only to be passed up by Spaniards. When there are peeps eating it up who needs peeps like Krops towing Carmelos line? Recently there was a story of a non - Spanish xx trying to get a seat in GP. It almost didnt happen despite his overwhelming talent. Turns out xx had to step in to ante up cash to seal the deal. Had the xx been Spanish there would have been peeps lining up to sign him. There would have been news articles celebrating his talent and explain he is so good because he is a product of the spanish system. I bet u cant even tell me this kid's name without looking it up.

Yes, it sucks that families have to uproot to Spain to give their kid a shot at the WC someday. But the fact is, there is no alternative for riders from a lot of countries and that is not the fault of Dorna. For example, if you're from Australia, there is no series that would allow you to make the jump straight to Moto3. Ideally, we would have a CEV style feeder series in the US, Asia, Australia, Spain, UK, etc, and then run a selection trial from the best of each series to find the next Moto3 riders. But at the moment we only have CEV Spain, so that's where you have to go.

It would be good if Dorna could buy up some ex-Moto3 bikes after they are retired and send them to different countries to try and get some competitive domestic series happening. Because without subsidies, any attempt to start up a domestic series here would just result in a few rich kids dominating and never produce any real talent.

A few years ago, everyone headed to the UK to start their road racing career. Now it is Spain. Makes no difference to kids from the other end of the world.

Cross post with you there, Sloth.

We were both thinking the same re: UK.

Living and driving around in an Austin Landcrab trying to get a ride.

I'm assuming you meant his kid, good try but no.  Look up a kid named Karel Hanika.

See above post to Sloth re: Landcrab (...... pommy maxi-mini) It's always been the way that Antipodeans made their way to Europe.

My comment about your post has not much to do with women's rights.  More to do with the worthless posts you've been adding to this great place PS is and can be.  Your comments add nothing of substance to any conversation.  Other than crude one liners disrespecting anything Spanish, you come up with .... all.  I say it's sad because I'm sure your an intelligent fun loving guy in person, but your recent post have had a lot to be desired.

Not looking for a pissing match, just a little decency from ya.   :peace:

I've never been to Spain so I don't have a lot of knowledge about the Spanish economy or of the pressure Dorna may be under to satisfy Spanish advertisers. Love the food, though :)

As far as bikes go, I don't see a conspiracy, just a country in love with bikes that has put a lot of time and effort into making themselves into a world power in racing. More power to them, I say. I just wish other countries put the same amount of effort in that Spain does.

AFAIK, Dorna are a British/Canadian company run by a mostly Spanish management team. The majority of their earnings comes from TV rights. They would be shitting in their own nest if the people they are trying to sell their products to thought there was a fix in to ensure that Spain stayed pre-eminent in world racing.

I wish Australia laxed the participation age limit, but moreso wished the Australian corporate community got behind our sport

You identify the problem in your post. There is an organisation called the FIM who are actually supposed to be in charge of regulating and organising the sport worldwide who seem to have sold out to a commercial organisation, Dorna, and abrogated most if not all responsibilty for the sport. This model seldom works, as a very smart and successful billionaire Australian businessman called Kerry Packer concluded after his venture into World Series cricket in the 1970s. You need amateur/enthusiast support at the grassroots . You can't expect such people to effectively work for Dorna for nothing, nor can Dorna, competent or not, greedy or not, realistically be expected to be able to enlist such people en masse. I don't contend that Dorna are making huge money by exploiting the sport either btw, it would seem likely their profits are quite modest as David Emmett, Lex and others have opined.

Good luck to the Spanish, they have great enthusiasm for and high participation in the sport currently, as other different countries have had in the past , and Australians in particular can have no complaint other than there being no attempt to co-ordinate the sport internationally, since as has been said Australian companies have never supported Australian riders.

Still doesn't mean imo that MM should run into people for no apparent reason however supernaturally good, exciting, old school, loveable  etc he may be.

You do realise you are complaining about cultural insensitivity towards Spain and the Spanish from two Spanish speaking North Americans?
