#BeARacer

Thanks for the update Krop. Will he be in place of Haslam or Torres?

Also while you're here, I have a question:

I heard rumours over the weekend that Aspar are going to run Ducati's next year. So that leaves 8 Ducati's on the grid (2 Works, 2 Pramac GP15, 2 Avintia GP14.2 and presumably Aspar would get 2 GP14.1's)

Given that the 2017 rules state that manufacturers will only be allowed to supply 4 factory bikes to satellite teams, what's going to happen to one of the teams above? Suzuki?

Well with Kropo's less than cryptic announcement, dear little sparrow, your friends Heidi and Mike are invited to Laguna Seca WSBK next year. :)

Do we know the date for 2016 yet? I'll be heading Stateside probably mid July so hope I can catch it. If not keep me a seat for 2017

Hernandez confirmed at Aspar, though no bike of team mate has been agreed yet.

MotoGP News - Aspar signs Yonny Hernandez for MotoGP 2016

Aspar has confirmed the signing of Yonny Hernandez for MotoGP 2016.

However no mention was made of the Colombian's team-mate - assuming there will be one - or which machinery Aspar will use.

Nicky Hayden and Eugene Laverty currently race Open class Hondas for the Spanish team, which lost title sponsor Drive M7 at the start of this season and is rumoured to be switching to Ducati machinery for 2016.

The signing of Hernandez, a Pramac Ducati rider for the past two seasons, will do little to dampen such speculation.

Former world champion Hayden is out of contract and '50-50' in terms of a move to World Superbike, while rookie Laverty is in the first year of a two-year deal.

"I am very excited to be joining the Aspar Team, we have been trying to work together for a few seasons now but never reached an agreement but finally we are together," Hernandez said.

"I am really happy to form part of the Aspar Team, and my objective is to work hard and give everything to achieve the best possible results for the team next season. I know the Aspar Team is a very professional outfit and I am sure that we can reach a high level next season.

"This is a winning team, as they have shown over many years, and I am hopeful we can adapt quickly to the changes for 2016 and benefit from them. It will be a new challenge, with all of the riders starting from scratch with the new [control] electronics and [Michelin] tyres.”

Hernandez is 14th in the world championship with a best finish of eighth at Le Mans.

Scott Redding has already been confirmed as taking over Hernandez's Pramac seat, alongside Danilo Petrucci.

And Tito Rabat is confirmed at MarcVDS:

Marc VDS will promote Tito Rabat to its MotoGP team for 2016.

The Spaniard, who gave the team it's first world title with victory in last year's Moto2 World Championship, will thus take over the RC213V vacated by Scott Redding.

"The objective of my life was to, first of all, arrive to MotoGP and then to make results in the premier class," Rabat said. "This is the first step and for that I would like to thank Marc van der Straten, the team and Estrella Galicia for this chance and their confidence in me.

"I know stepping up to MotoGP on the factory Honda RC213V isn't going to be easy, but I have all the winter to prepare, to make sure I'm strong and ready for preseason testing. It's going to be a steep learning curve, but the goal will be to improve step by step so that we're ready for the first race in Qatar.”

Team boss Marc van der Straten added: “I am happy to see Tito step up to race our MotoGP bike next season. His approach to racing, his work ethic and his determination to succeed are the same attributes on which our team was built.

"It is fitting that we should have a rider such as Tito in the premier class to act as the perfect role model for the younger riders making their way through our development program.

"To race at the very top level is never easy, but Tito has shown that he has the ability to adapt rapidly and his commitment to this project is absolute. I am confident he will do us proud next season.”

Rabat has already been given a taste of 2016 with an outing on Redding's RCV during Monday's Michelin test at Aragon.

That appearance had been unconvincingly described as a 'present' for winning last year's Moto2 title, but effectively confirmed that the 26-year-old would take over from the Englishman next season. The long awaited official announcement was then made today (Thursday).

“The test at Aragon aboard the factory Honda RC213V was an incredible experience," Rabat said. "The first time you ride this bike you just aren't prepared for it. There is so much speed, so hard acceleration and the corners arrive far too early! To be honest, it was the best experience you can have on a bike.

"Once I'd adapted to the speed, the power and the carbon brakes I was able to understand a little more how the bike works and go a little faster. I would like to have ridden for longer but, unfortunately, they wanted to close the track!”

All previous Moto2 champions had joined MotoGP the following season prior to Rabat, who opted to try and become the first double Moto2 title winner. However a distant second place in this year's standings means he is already on the verge of losing out to Johann Zarco.

Jack Miller is expected to move from LCR Honda to ride alongside Rabat in an expanded Marc VDS line-up, but as yet there is no official confirmation.

Redding, who claimed a shock podium in the dry-wet-dry Misano race, is joining Pramac Ducati next season.

And now Miller confirmed at VDS:

MotoGP News - MotoGP Australia: Marc VDS confirms Jack Miller

Marc VDS will double its MotoGP presence with Jack Miller finally confirmed alongside Tito Rabat for the team's second season in the premier-class.

Miller will move across from LCR Honda, with Moto2 champion Rabat already named on the seat vacated by Scott Redding.

“I am very enthusiastic on this possibility with Honda and the Marc VDS Racing Team," Miller said. "I know Marc VDS is a good, strong and experienced team, and they can build a good structure for me to fight for good positions next year.

"As we both have already one year of experience from the top class, I feel that we can gain from the experiences we have to achieve good results together with Honda.”

Australian Miller jumped directly from Moto3 to MotoGP this year and has scored 16 points so far, including a best finish of eleventh in Catalunya.

Miller is third in the Open class standings but the highest ranked RC213V-RS rider, albeit level on points with former champion Nicky Hayden.

The loss of LCR's title sponsor means Lucio Cecchinello is reverting to a single entry for Cal Crutchlow next season.

Miller has a multi-year contract directly with HRC and was thus always assured of a place somewhere on the 2016 grid. A move to Aspar was initially rumoured, but the Spanish team is now set to switch to Ducati machinery, prompting the Marc VDS deal.

Miller was previously involved in a contract dispute with Marc VDS, which claimed a 'binding contract' was in place for the Australian to join its Moto2 team for 2015.

“It's all water under the bridge," Miller told Crash.net. "They've been really good about it and I believe I've been pretty good about it. They've welcomed me with open arms and I'm really excited.”

Instead of Moto2, Miller moved straight from the factory KTM Ajo Moto3 team - where he finished title runner-up to Alex Marquez - to MotoGP.

“It's good to be able to finally welcome Jack to the Marc VDS Racing Team. We wanted Jack in 2013 because we could see he had the talent to succeed and that hasn't changed," said team principal Michael Bartholemy.

"This was always going to be a difficult transition season for him, having jumped straight onto the MotoGP bike from Moto3, but he's done a solid job so far.

"Next year Jack will benefit from having the Marc VDS Racing Team behind him and, together with a competitive bike, I'm confident that this is exactly what he needs to realise his full potential.”

Miller will continue to work with ex-Casey Stoner crew chief Cristian Gabbarini next season. Asked about his bike spec for 2016, Miller said:

“I'm not sure yet to be honest. Honda are still developing their bike and we need to wait until the factory boys test it to know what our package will be.”

Miller and his engineers will make their Marc VDS debut at the post-season Valencia test. Rabat rode Redding's bike, on Michelin tyres, at the post-Aragon test.

“We are happy to welcome Jack to the Marc VDS family, even if he is 12 months late arriving!" quipped team president Marc van der Straten. "He comes to the team with a year of experience in MotoGP and I expect to see him well inside the top ten on a regular basis next season.

"For the team it is good to have two riders in the premier MotoGP class; they can learn from each other but, equally importantly, they can push each other every weekend. Both Jack and Tito are ultra-competitive and I expect we'll see some exciting battles between the two of them next season!”
