I know, and it really is a shame, but had it not been for the direction F1 had taken, then back in 2004 I would not have started watching the bikes. So in a way I'm thankful that F1 has lost its way as I've been a complete and utter convert ever since. Honestly I hadn't seriously watched motor racing for a couple of years at that point which is a big statement, as being a motor sports fan has been a part of my identity since I was a three year old!
I think we have to applaud Bernie for all that he has done for the sport up until the turn of the century, especially in the early days. However his is almost a story akin to King Midas'. Its clear that the power he wields has corrupted him, the sports governance are little more than puppets who are too frightened to have a voice on anything but the most arbitrary topics, and the whole circus (and that is what it is) has alienated its entire fanbase in order to pander to the super rich. Truly I believe the best thing that could happen to the sport is for an alternative open wheel formula created by the teams and drivers to become a reality. Instead the entire paddock and those involved are too comfortable (read: lazy) allowing these idiots run things , when in actual fact if they had any real endeavour we would see a rival series become a reality.
