Rossi's Legacy Tainted

Ago once said that his bike had to be perfect in order for him to ride fast and win. He said Hailwood could ride any heap of sht fast.

If Rossi ain't GOAT because he needs a perfect bike, better count Ago out too.

Well said. It would almost seem we imagined the previous titles won by Rossi (or any other champ who stuck around, for good or bad) if in their latter years they didnt win. Its a good thing we dont judge Schwantz legacy based on his 94 season, eh? Based on the logic of this thread, "lucky" for Doohan his career ended in an accident, otherwise surely he would have ended up a 'has-been piece of .... headcase quiter old man whose existence was of no value and unworthy of a firing squad death...so as to save bullets'.

That isn't exactly what he said... he said when he tried to ride Hailwood's bike he couldn't go fast on it.

It reminds me a little bit of myself and Mike Hailwood. He was less sensitive to feeling that the bike wasn't right. When I tried his bike it felt like a piece of iron to me, but he was able to go fast with it."

And the difference is ? Ago couldn't go as fast on Hailwoods bike because he was more sensitive to set up issues. Rossi can't go fast enough on the Duc because he is sensitive to set up issues.

You could even say that by the end of his career, Doohan couldn't stay on a bike, what a loser.

Thanks for posting the exact quote and making yourself look stupid without my help.

And you managed it without a quote. Congratulations junior. Now go back to putting plastic bags over your head or whatever else it is that you have done that has impeded your thought processes.

Which are not remotely the same. All he said was that he found Hailwood's bike to be 'like a piece of iron to me' - nothing whatsoever about Ago's bike needing to be perfect. Nothing at all.

I think it has also been said that hailwood didn't really go much faster on a well set-up bike either.

Just seen on wikipedia Ago won 56 races in a row...bloody hell. Got to have had the best bike at all times though?

What about Rossi's capacity to earn being tainted?

He's up for a new contract 2013.

How much has the 2 years with Ducati affected what his next contract will be worth?

He's made a habit of it

Whereas you just come off as a total tool... I don't know what is worse... but hey, that's ok - I can manage to respond directly to cowardly asides. I don't need to giggle like a ..... behind my hand to another fuckstick just to assert my manhood.

And if I am wrong, that's fine - I can easily make myself more informed, whereas you are a ...... - something not easily remedied by just learning a new fact.

Hard to say, really. Marlboro have his contract, not Corse. I guess if they are getting mileage from his brand associating with their brand, it doesn't matter so much what happens at Ducati, as long as he stays in the TV limelight. He has always shunned promotional glad-handing so I guess somewhere in Marlboro there is a formula that they have worked out. Considering the global nature of the sport and of Marlboro, €15M is actually pretty reasonable...

In 2006 in the US alone Marlboro spent $105M, on worldwide sales of $150B at a high profit margin. Rossi's contract, while substantial, is relatively small compared to their overall worldwide advertising spend.

However, if this is it and his winning days are over, I suspect there might not be another contract at all.

Shame is Pete, the same could be said of many many many people whom we call champions.

The sad thing is that the 3 guys who owned the 90s, Rainey, Schwantz an Doohan all retired with life changing injuries.

Schwantz got beat up, but i wouldnt say he had life changing injuries. Rainey's life changing injury had more impact on his calling it quits than anything that ever happened to him directly.

Absolutely, like a number of other riders in that era, these guys did not really get to 'make a decision' but had that decision 'made for them'.

Every year like clockwork some new-kid-in-town shows up here and refutes accepted logic and wisdom and goes around abusing everybody with over the top insults bravely said to people whom he wouldn't have the balls to even talk to in real life. And after a while when they realize that nobody really gives a .... about what they have to say when they realize that the grown-ups are just bored with their childish taunting - they fade away.

There are, on this forum, a number of people who have vibrant, combative discussion in the course of a thread - and when things get heated - there is an understanding that it's all in fun.

But so far all your posts have been snotty internet-.... bating of other people. You haven't yet raised a serious salient point in any discussion. You're just another internet-twit with misdirected anger that you should be expressing to Mommie and Daddy. Why not do us all a favor and go hang out on Crash.net with your fellow miscreants. While you're a legend in your own mind, we've seen your act before. It's boring and repetitive. There's no prize for making the greatest number of pointless and foolish posts on this site. There's nothing here for you to "win". Save your breath. You're strictly a "been-there-done-that" proposition. I know you think you're a rebel, an enfant terrible and that you're stirring up ....; but the reality is, to us you're more like a monkey mindlessly throwing around his feces.

It doesn't happen often, but I completely agree...........
