Rossi's leg

J4, you're back to rooting for VR? Poor Dovi, maybe he should try the injury sympathy strategy.

Theon's post is an obvious play on the Misano boo birds. It's a good thing you posted on the Misano race thread to rebuke such un-elegant behavior. Maybe it got lost in translation, though I don’t know Daniboy's excuse since he's an English speaker.

Nobody is relishing in Rossi's injury but rather using the occasion to point out the double standards, the disproportional sympathy, and the assignment of supposed extraordinary heroism. I invite you to watch the pre-event preshow. The chick and the bald guy were orgasming on the comeback of the century. They interviewed Massimo Meregali, who was trying to put it into perspective, saying injuries are different and this one allows VR to come back relatively quick, the commentators ignored him and continued falling over themselves to praise the super human feat.

That wasn't enough, the reporter's just needed more on the subject. Kropo using the opportunity to ask Rossi the redundant question, so Rossi, when did you know you were coming back this 'early', when you sat at home watching the Misano race (just a few days removed from incident)? Nominate Rossi for the Nobel prize for inspiring comebacks.

If you live in a glass house don't throw rocks.

I'm completely alien to your idea of "rooting" for or against. I love the sport and try to respect all riders, even those I don't like. Your obsession vs Rossi is so apparent, Jeez -- you can't leave alone this rider even when he has a broken leg. Silence would be the right thing to do for you in this case -- but no, you can't help trying dismissing his best efforts to ride a MotoGP bike at 38 with a compound fracture. Others may have done the same or even better, but so what? Why hitting a wounded enemy? Vultures may have something to learn from people like you... Beer or even whiskey is no excuse in this case, I'm afraid.

To be accurate, the 2010 fracture was a compound fracture, but less of a problem than normally would be the case because it was contained by his leathers.

This one wasn't compound by all reports, which doesn't mean getting 3rd on the grid 3 weeks or so later at age 38 is unimpressive.

Amazing to get a 3rd spot, but still doesn't change things for me. Getting a surgeon out of bed at 2am to operate, I'd have told them to go fix it themselves as sleep is a necessity for a surgeon.

I'll tell you what I did hate about the qualifying, that fat lump of .... uccio, he got at least 1 minute of tv time.

I'll be sober in the morning, you'll continue to be detached from reality.

You are protesting me constantly pointing out reality buddy. You reject and refuse it and your defense is simply to say I'm obsessed with point out the truth. That's never been done before...

J4, I've said nothing about Rossi’s comeback other than it's praiseworthy for the individual and typical of athletes at this level. You disapprove? Oh, I know, you don't like me pointing out something else, you want me silent, why?

I enjoy pointing out the disproportionate obsession to Rossi by the majority of spectators like you; it's so extreme that there's a lot to point out, not surprisingly you take issue with the reaction instead of the actual source. Here is a great example, you J4 'believe' (like a religion, contrary to actual reality and evidence) that Ducati did nothing radical or extraordinary to help Rossi at Ducati, hence 'Ducati' failed. Just like that Rossi is blameless, like the little white lamb, who suffered at the sacrificial alter. Your perspective isn't unique among the Cult, and it's no different today, I'm just pointing this fact out. When I pointed this out 'repeatedly' you could accuse me of being obsessed with Rossi, when in fact it's pointing out this odd pervasive fantasy spell you Yellow Minions live under.

It's no different today, I haven’t said .... about Rossi's motives but rather the disproportionate grandiose and frankly inaccurate assessment that it's extraordinary. It's not. So why so much obsession to characterize it this way? I've been listing several examples of riders coming back from serious injury without the fanfare. The fact we have to look it up should tell you something about the sport. It is Rossi obsessed, unfairly to the other "heroes" that have done just as great, you want me to shut up about that. Only one hero for this sport then.

Jumkie, you have to look things up because they happened in the past, little wonder that they're not in the news now.
Your continuous anti Rossi diatribe is getting a bit tiresome, you're looking less of a GP fan and more of a hater which is a pity really.
Try talking about moto GP in the current sense without referring to Rossi all the time, there's a lot more going on than just him.

There's more going on than just Rossi, that's EXACTLY my point!

Yeah but you're preaching to people who already know this. WHY?
Read J4's take, I'm preaching to him buddy. Unfortunately you're caught in the cross fire. I know you're on board...

On board or on bored?
Seriously, lighten up, your contribution to this forum would be more worthy. You only live once, enjoy it :)

Jumkie stays on his track, Rossi continues not to resile from his view on the 2015 title.

Thus nature balances.

Marcel Shrotter riding today following a fractured scaphoid one of the worst injuries that you can sustain as a motorcycle racer. No cameras and crowds awaiting his arrival at the circuit, no plaudits saturating social media no media spotlight. The lad simply grits his teeth and goes ahead with the job, for the team the sponsors and most importantly, himself. 99% of the viewing public doubtless utterly impervious to this.

I actually have no problem giving Rossi plaudits for qualifying third at age 38 only 3 weeks after fracture and internal fixation of his tibia and fibula. I think Colin Edwards and to an extent Lorenzo were given credit for riding after clavicular fractures, and it has always been the way that the premier class attracts all the publicity.

What is laughable is Daniboy chastising Jumkie for not letting bygones be bygones where Rossi is concerned, given a significant reason for his (and my) animus against Rossi is the career long off track vendettas against his rivals, and his involvement of his fans in detracting from those rivals. When Rossi gives up on his narrative about the 2015 title, and instructs his fans to do likewise, DB's attempt to assume the moral high ground might have a vague chance of having something in the way of credibility.

I didn't think you would subscribe to a, "one wrong deserves another" philosophy. Didn't seem like DB wasn't assuming moral high ground, sounded more like he was complaining about the incessant sound of dogs barking.

I am not one for false moral equivalence actually; perhaps you can point out the falsity in this case.

Am I the only one who starting to doubt Rossi's injury?

Doctor expect him to fully fit 40 days after surgery. VR decide to race just after 24 days.
that is nearly 50% faster.

this weekend I expect him a bit struggling just by walking, BUT, his first appearance in the paddock showed the opposite (see this video https://twitter.com/MotoGP/status/910838706428350464)
he walked with crutches on the wrong hand, then eventually realized it before going upstairs.

then after the race, his later race pace was down to M1's eating the rear tyre faster than anybody, not his broken leg (https://twitter.com/matoxley/status/911999551351017475)
and no sign of pain at all after the race, is that even possible?

BSB rider Christian Iddon posted this on social media yesterday

"Only 23 days recovery after breaking his leg and Rossi was back on the grid. Impressive! Brands Indy BSB 2015 I broke my fibula race 1. 3 hours 'recovery' and I was on the grid for race 2. Closely followed by months of rehab and I have the x-ray to prove it."

I can already see the headline after the race if Rossi races this weekend: "9 time WC Rossi put in a heroic effort to race today
and bravely risked his life finishing 6th. If not for the leg injury, he would be no doubt have won the race'. The media will fawn all over him, as usual!!

Oh and another lap of honor after the race.

Lol........ I need another coffee.

talk about spot on nice job.

David Emmett's piece pretty well concurred with what I had thought before reading it. The previous fracture was a much more severe much higher impact injury which pushed the bone so out of place it broke the skin and obviously involved considerable soft tissue injury. He was lucky they could close it within 2 days because it was contained by his leathers and didn't get contaminated by track and trackside dirt.

This one wouldn't have involved nearly as much soft tissue injury and would have been stable once pinned, although doubtless still too painful for most among us to contemplate anything very vigorous. The main thing I imagine would be being sufficiently unconcerned to ride at a competitive pace, it certainly would not be a good idea to fall or be hit and re-break the thing.
