I hope Valentino Rossi gets a penalty for hitting Marquez.

It was an awful sight to watch as the Italian pushed Marquez out and had him crash. Being an arrogant superstar should not allow you to ignore rules.

Wrong....

You can look at my nearly 1000 posts to see that not only am I no Rossi fan, I generally dislike the guy. This however was not his fault as race direction has already deemed. Racing incidents happen and while I do think Rossi purposely blocked MM from entering the 1st turn, the pass was complete when MM tipped it in and crashed. Rossi got nothing wrong here.

Aggression invites aggression. These two are not done and I suspect MM will get the best of Rossi this season over the long haul. They will trade paint again. This is only the beginning.

Having watched 5 replays of the collision I feel you are wrong it was a race incident and just that.

I believe that Rossi was NOT at fault, he was clearly ahead of Marquez and as such had a right to the line he chose.

I have a road race car myself, the rules I race under state that the person who is clearly first in a corner (under control) has the right of way.

Simple as that.

I congratulate Mr. Rossi (regardless of whether the tire made all the difference, or not) and wish him continued success, thank you for making this season more interesting (along with the top level Ducati riders, and that amazing Suzuki it appears).

10-4

Dude, he was gaining half a second per lap. Do you really think he needed to crash marquez? It just seemed to me that when rossi looked over his shoulder he may have changed his trajectory a bit and surprised marquez.

MM needs to learn to lose...end of story. He can't win all the time.

And typically MM is the one making other people crash out/bumping into them. Look at the first race.

You are right Rossi was .5 a second faster.....so i will ask why didnt MM not jsut let Rossi pass?

My view is that MM thought he had to keep passing Rossi until the end to slow him down enough to maybe beat Rossi.....but it didnt work out that way for MM...he was too desperate not to lose touch with Rossi....and so MM crashed by hitting Rossi's rear tyre....

With Rossi gaining that fast it's difficult to understand Marquez's thought process. I understand he wanted to put the fight to Rossi. I'm certain I'll never know anyone who's even remotely as competitive as these guys. As a huge fan of Rossi and Marquez I'm very curious as to how Marc will react in the media not to mention on the track.
Terrific race. I really was thinking Rossi was going to be lucky to get 4th. Working hard on the extra hard tire was brilliant. Why can't he qualify worth a crap?
What is going on with Lorenzo? He looks done.

Somewhere Barry is throwing up blood lol...

MM tried to pull off one of his infamous sensor cable cutting maneuvers and it back fired and bit him in the .....

I swear Rossi doesn't push as hard so he can put in a brilliant race for everyone. He's a seasoned vet, I think it just goes to show how awesome he is going from 8th to 1st. I mean Lorenzo qualified 3rd, look where he ended up. If only MM battled it out a little longer. I love when I'm on the edge of my sofa!

But I agree, Lorenzo seems off. How can he go from being so good to sub-par?

MM uses the "Block Pass" all the time. You let off the brake for a moment, over-taking a position in the process, then finish braking for the turn IN the race line, hence the term Block. The overtaken rider can either A.) try to repass wide which will be slower in many cases B.) dive underneath if the over-taking rider has pushed too far wide from the race line during the pass, or C.) Slow down and concede the position. MM choose D.) Run into the back of the passing rider, followed by E.) If D doesn't work, run into him a second time.

I mean seriously, how could Rossi be at fault? He was in front and got hit from behind TWICE in one and a half turns! Rossi clearly had far greater pace, making up 4 seconds margin in about 8 laps. MM should've just chosen Option C.), collected his second place points and called it a day. Instead he's headed home with a goose egg.

The mistake Marquez made was forgetting to watch out for old drivers on the road. You never know when one of those guys past retirement age is going to suddenly lurch over and slam into you. Hope he learns a lesson.

Not a Rossi fan, but Marquez showed his own stupidity today.

It's better to finish with some points rather than none.

I learned that long ago watching the great Alain Prost in another era in F1. He won the 1986 title precisely because in spite of not being able to run with the top team, consistently collecting points allowed him to grab the title since Mansell and Piquet cannibalized each other over the course of a season. So many racers seem to miss this idea. They think it's win or bust...it's not.

Marquez should have known when his lead evaporated like nothing to get out of the way and worry about trying to stay in front of the Ducati...instead he refuses to cede position and crashes out...great thinking. Christ.

Amazing race. Cant wait for the next one. Happy more bikes are competitive. Alexis gave his all. Cal and Dovi put on solid performances. Shame Marquez fans cannot be good losers. Rossi raced a brilliant race. His experience led to a much deserved victory. Unfortunately had it bern another rider in that same circumstance with Marquez I highly doubt race direction would have gone in their favor. Marquez plowed thru Batista in Qatar, and dangerously abandoned his bike in Austin QP2. with no repercussions. Dorna seems to be playing the ratings game like F1. So bravo Rossi, great race! Btw I am not a Rossi fan, I am a Lorenzo fan.

the brilliance of rossi is that he makes it look like he didn't intend to cut off marquez. but they both know he did and are both playing nice in front of the cameras. ball's in marquez's court now...

How is one supposed to "make it look" like that? You are not editing a movie when you race, you take decisions in a split second with adrenaline pumping in your blood and then at that level whatever you do will be recorded by 14 cameras watching the scene from different angles. If a rider could manipulate that he woudn't be "briliant", he would be a fuc**ng magician.

J4,

I am responding only having seen one angle so please do read this comment as such but I do understand the earlier comment and would suspect that the only way to know would be to analyse Rossi's laps at that point to watch how he changed direction at that point of the track to determine if he was trying to 'make' things look accidental or not.

Personally from what I have seen to me there is no doubt that Rossi changes direction in a hard manner but he was also somewhat offline due to the earlier rub from Marquez and as such he needed to be forceful in the change to get back to the line he needed for the corner at the speed he was carrying. Marquez on the other hand seemed to be on the usual line but was of course behind Rossi and thus it was HIS responsibility to make sure that HE would not be impacted by Rossi in any way.

IMO only but Marqez simply just got Rossi'd in as much as Rossi is the hardest racer in that field and Marquez just found that out.

No penalty deserved or warranted as this was Marquez's fault, even though I do feel that Rossi was making a point that he was there to race and so no quarter is to be given.

To me, I will be more interested in how Marquez replies and whether he uses youthful exuberance and outright punts Rossi, does he get all fired up and over-ride into error, or does he put it in the memory bank as a lesson and reply in kind when situations align
