Rossi - where will he finish in 2011?

This is of course again very premature pre-Qatar test, obviously some want to continue the GOAT/fan bashing after Sepang, what you lot need to understand is this guy has a record far beyond any current competitor-the same goes for his fanbase, he has proven, many times well against the odds, that he can turn it around on race day. A couple of bad tests doesn't even factor for a rider and team with the Talent, experience and expertise of Rossi. and his crew. I know many here are praying to see him fail to justify their opinions on his success.

When was he riding against the odds? He's always had a great bike and team. Where are these people who are so called praying for failure? I don't see much in any thread or are you just reading too much into any criticism of Rossi?

All the top Honda boys will have their respective moments of speed and victory, but ultimately they will trip each other up and especially with Stoner and Pedders, will suffer several offs in key rounds which will ultimately give away their advantage, and if problems with the Honda surface, well we know how well they listen to rider feedback.....

How many "offs' will Stoner and Pedrosa have? I predict Stoner will crash once this season and it won't be due to not knowing what his front tyre is doing.

Rossi finds it at Mugello, fights all season, ties for 1st with Spies

Son of Doohan you are clearly not a valentine Rossi fan lol

The mam makes it more interesting...

Saying his career is on the turn, what a miserable non believer lol

Always get a know it all floating around talking rubbish ,

Rossi has the brain to male it enjoyable and judging by your username  Son of Doohan

If he stayed on long enough he made it a tad boring with the one dimensional race craft

Nice first post!! Can you do another one when you get out of kindergarten? One that makes some sense? Give me your address and I can send you some crayons, which, hopefully will help you find your voice.

Very few people doubt Rossi. Many doubt Ducati.

I don't know how many offs stoner can have.....was it 5 or 6 in races last time he rode a Honda? 5 or 6 last year I think. Right now until he proves otherwise, he is what Barry Sheene would call a 'chucker' on race day.

Even if he has 2 or three, which is a safe bet, that's potentially 50-60 points. Very hard to give this much this year methinks

Stoner back then spoke very darkly of Michelin and the tyres the "other" riders were issued as opposed to the overnight specials the key riders were getting.

Oddly enough it was Michelin who then turned to Stoner and Ducati for their lifeline after Bridgestone completed their tyre coup d'etat

Different tyres and times, Stoner is now in Honda a Bridgestone preferred rider on the Bridgestone preferred Japanese Bike.

Also, is this a thread about Stoner?

methinks NOT

This is all about the Italian chap on the Poocati

The Ducati has the capacity to be competative, but I don't think Rossi (or Nicky) will find the speed until mid season, and by then the championship will be too far away.

Short of injury to one of the top guys, he probably won't beat Pedro, Stoner and Lorenzo.

He will probably be on the tail end of Spies and Dovi, so I expect him to be fighting Edwards, and Simonafro for 6th, and I think that is where he will end up.

I think Simoncelli could be the wildcard this year.

2011 will have more different race winners than we have seen for a long time. I am guessing 5 - 6 different race winners through the year.

Exactly. Rossi has already proven his talents.

Ducati have only won the title once.

This is a little more complicated than VR & JB's switch to Yamaha from Honda many moons ago.

Not to mention that there is more star quality on the grid now. I think around 4th to 6th.

Talpa is right about one thing. The Qatar test will give us more information. Stoner on the Ducati was always super fast there.

It will be interesting to see where Vale & Nicky slot in.

As I recall rossi put it down a few times in his first season in the premier class on a honda.

Stoner 's premier class record imo shows more that he will go for the win regardless of whether his bike is capable of it rather than that he is a chucker per se . As others have recently said his overall dnf rate in the 800 formula is similar to the other top riders. He made no significant riding error at all in 2007, when someone (I can't quite recall his name) said he "rode like a god". He made 1 riding error in 2009, at a time when all you guys said it would be meaningless if he won the race concerned, and when a tyre was not warmed in the pits. Last year he won races on a bike your favourite rider understandably doesn't want to push within seconds of his (stoner's) pace, pretty clearly because he considers it to be unstable. I can see strategic sense in stoner's win it or bin it approach in the second half of last year, he needed to demonstrate to honda that he retained his pace apart from anything else given that even the composition of this year's factory team was undecided. When he had his 2 dnfs in 2008 anything less than a win was fairly useless to him as well. Surely as a valentino fan you would not object to a rider going for the win rather than settling for a safe place in any case

.

As kropotkin implies where valentino finishes this year depends almost entirely on ducati. If they can "fix"the bike, which it looks unlikely they can do quickly at this point in time, he will finish first or second. If it is fundamentally flawed he will finish 4th or 5th, but 1st or 2nd next year.

trouble is ducati seen very stubborn with this carbon thing, they cant fix it just buy throwing money at it ( ormaybe the can with the right input?), the bike seemed to get worse every year for stoner but fair play the guy still kept it near the top.

im going for 4th or 5th, ive seen rossi put in some supperb performances when im expecting him not to! i know the duke is a different kind of beast but i have faith.

when hes on a mission hes by far the most spectaculer rider to watch from a racing point of view and stoner the best rider to watch for blazing consistant laps when hes out front, barry and a few others will dissagree but thats thier opinion.
