Rossi is spending to days testing in the 08 Ferrari. So speculation about a duc ride maybe wrong, although he would still be going to an italian racing outfit lol

Anyway here is link clicky

Still 5 seconds off the lap record for that car, but an awesome effort for anyone who doesn't drive one for a living IMO

peace

5 sec in an F1 car must be at least 500m or more and there are plenty of driver aids in a 2008 F1. I don't think being that far of the pace is going to help his contract negotiations for 2011.

Typical post form a Stonerbopper!

Dont think its a bad effort, especially on a drying track with GP2 slicks, i'm pretty sure he hasnt driven an F1 car round there before. Just getting the tyres up to temperature is something me and more than likely you couldnt do...even with all those aids!

Be interesting to see what he does tomorrow. If the tracks dry I have no doubt he will go faster again. Personally I doubt I could get the car out of pitlane, even with all the driver aids lol

Was a tongue in cheek post, sorry it went over your head.

I have no interest in Rossi so I never read articles in the news about him so do not know the ins and outs of his times. I just always feel bad for him these days when a thread about him sits there with no posts for so long. If it keeps going like this he may not be able to get the dollars he is used to.

All I'll say is thank god we have Stoner fans like Jumkie, Austin, Gaz and Michael

How good is Planet Rossi.
The guy is probably the greatest bike racer ever, gets paid millions to do what he loves, has possible the biggest army of loyal fans of almost any sportsman, travels (and parties) with his own 'entourage', get to drive WRC cars and then Ferrari toss him the keys to an F1 car - for a bit of fun.
Who really cares what time he puts down comparred to the full time F1 drivers - and to be within 5 sec a lap is a pretty commendable effort.
He looped the car twice in the morning session, which shows he is not scared to push it.
It would take massive balls to drive an F1 car at the limit.
Lets see Massa or Alonso on a M1, and see if they can get within 5 sec a lap of Rossi's times - not likely.

Just thought of a new Race of Champions type format.

The best from each of the main forms of motorsport.
F1
MotoGP or WSBK
WRC
Touring car racing (or possibly Nascar)
And, lets say speedway (for something completely different)

All 5 get a session in each of the cars on the same day at the same track. Best times are logged.
Then all move on to the next event.
At the end all times are accumulated.

(Not sure if a contracted F1 driver would be allowed to ride a MotoGP bike)

His best time on day 2 would have put him on the grid at that track in 2008. That's a huge effort. I doubt there are too many ppl who could achieve such a huge result coming from another discipline of motor sport especially coming from 2 wheels.

Rossi Completes Ferrari Test on High, Just Misses Lap Record

Valentino Rossi recorded his fastest lap time in the F2008 he was testing with Ferrari, a 1:21.9 on his penultimate lap. That’s just off the lap record of 1:21.67 set by former Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen in 2008.

i have to say thats very impresive

V impressive..so whats that a few feet...inches ? 500m down to a few 10ths off the team driver. Kids got skills

I must admit that I thought Pinky and Barry were the biggest bopper tossers here, but you take the cake, and as usual you are wrong, check out his latest lap times.......and don't think for a second that anyone here believes this is tongue in cheek coming from the biggest CS bopper here.

Just go back to wanking over your Stoner poster instead of attempting to discredit the efforts of the worlds greatest motorcycle racer driving one of the fastest race cars in the world and doing a time that would have put him on the F1 grid against the best drivers in the world!!! All of this and its been 12 months since he has been in an F1 car, all bopping aside- this is impressive, right up there with Surtees for me on raw talent. And anyone looking to discredit it needs to visit their Psychologist to talk over treatment for their 'Tall Poppy' syndrome...........

How much can it affect you TP? We Rossi boppers have better things to do than just wait and write every other second ‘During the OFF SEASON’. There may be a lot of things going on, yet it matters most in the Real Races.

Anyway, I’ll quote Jazkat and Kewlhunter:

And that’s just for fun in his vacations!

Good to hear from you Talpa, it must get to TP70’s nerves that Rossi has so many fans and still can achive to make some more from 4 wheels with just a couple of tests a year… Can he not see that by these tests, other ‘car’ sports fans get to know about Rossi, who he is, and then MotoGP perhaps? I think TP70 digs his own grave!

got to say impressive without a doubt the F1 Circus wouldn't have a clue how to deal with him his ways or his boppers fook off ferrari n bernie

Click video to watch Valentino Rossi, reigning 2009 MotoGP Champion, on day two of testing the Ferrari F2008 F1 race car. The test took place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain outside of Barcelona. The video starts with Rossi sitting in the garage but at around the one minute mark he begins his hot lap.

It was reported by the New York Times that Valentino Rossi, after the two days of testing, recorded a very fast lap time in the F2008. Rossi's best time of 1:21.90 was just a few ticks off the lap record of 1:21.67 set by Kimi Raikkonen driving the Ferrari back in 2008. Although this is his 6th time testing a Formula 1 car, the man has talent.

Valentino Rossi Speaks...

"We kept the last three quarters of an hour to try a ‘time attack' with little petrol and fresh tires. I would have given anything for such a lap time."

"It's more fun here, because it's a little bit easier. It's more effort in Mugello, but this track here is really wonderful, with motorbikes and cars, although I have to say that turn 10 is a little tight and you're braking much later."

Luca Baldisserri Speaks... Ferrari Director

"We tried different set ups and he improved a lot: this means that the driver learns quickly and has room for improvement."

In fairness (and in a hope to put into perspective), his initial times were the likely equivalent to that put down by Schumacher when he tested the Duke in 2009 (when one uses a 'fair' comparison), but the latter times are impressive (again are these publically available or reported times?).

Either way, to be in his position and get these test rides shows the 'marketability' of Rossi and the attraction he offers to other sports and/or teams within those sports which are bigger businesses than is MotoGP globally. Basically, as a business you look for an 'edge' in some aspect and market share is crucial thus it goes without saying that people will look at the likes of Rossi for motorsports markets.

Now, for mine I am not qualified to say whether he would or could be a success, but will hazard a guess and say simply that he would not be the first, nor last to tempt the cross from 2 to 4 wheels, but I do expect more WRC than F1.
