Rossi: surgery done!

Rossi has been operated this morning. As soon as he came back from Valencia, he wanted to be operated without even waiting for Monday as planned.

Dr. Castagna, who operated Vale, said that the shoulder condition was critical as two tendons and the cartilage were seriously damaged. He thought the rider was "very stubborn" racing for a long time with an injury of that type.

Standard recovery from that kind of operation is 90 days.

We can expect Vale to be fit in a shorter time, though.

Good luck Valentino!

This makes you look a right ....... povol with your earlier statement that there was nothing wrong with vale .You said he was putting it all on to put leverage on Yamaha

Hopefully he can fully recover without any further complication and get back to full fitness before the next test in Sepang.

I don't know why he didn't have it done when he had his leg set, guess the healing time would have ment staying out for 2-3 months instead of 4 races. Shows what a racers heat he has.

That's a good question. He himself said that when you already have a leg immobilized, you do not feel like doing the same to your right arm. Moreover, he had been told the shoulder injury would heal without operation (a rare case of wrong diagnosis by Dr. Costa) so he hoped by the time the leg would be healed, the shoulder also would be much better.

Actually, the wise thing to do would have been to intervene on the shoulder immediately. He would have missed the same number of races, wouldn't have broken the leg, and would have been really fit for the end of the season. But it's easy to be wise, afterwards.

Yeah. hindsight is a wonderful thing as they say.

I'd bet that this was the kind of injury that would have healed well enough on it's own

for someone who was just doing normal stuff but for someone doing something as

demanding as MGP racing it's a whole other story.

so much for rossi having "nothing wrong with his shoulder". maybe the doctor is lying? lol

speedy recovery vale.

Depends on what he has done to the tendons. If they were actually divided not much speeds up the time for them to heal and regain full strength. If this was the case they wouldn't have been equivocating about operating though, and as he has already demonstrated this year with his leg he has the physiology and motivation to recover from injury far quicker than mortal men.

Not that rare. The medical professionals I have spoken to about Costa regard him as a dangerous clown.

I would discount that a bit, because it is normal that the medical staff at the tracks where he goes find the presence of his "Mobile Clinic" redundant, and intrusive in what they regard as their territory. And no doubt what he does with injured riders doesn't correspond to any current medical protocol, but how could riders manage those super-quick recoveries otherwise... Let us say the riders appreciate him because he tries to meet their expectations. They say Doohan was very grateful to Costa, to name only one.

This time around, Valentino Rossi got angry at him however! He considers him responsible for underestimating his shoulder injury, with all the undesirable consequences that followed.

wow, now there's a strong statement based on hearsay ! care to elaborate?

I can't without breaking a confidence. Suffice it to say that qualified medical professionals who have been consulted on treatments prescribed by Costa consider them dangerous. However, I am not a doctor, nor privy to those treatments, and so am not qualified to judge whether this is professional jealousy or professional judgement.

I'm not a doctor either but i bet the Doctor who wanted to amputate Doohans leg considered Costers revolutionary methods dangerous. It's a matter of opinion i suppose but from the results us as fans have seen and the length of time he has been the main man at moto clinica i would question those opinions against the results.

Gotcha right?

Compa, 99.9% of what we think, believe and say can be categorized as coming from or forwarding "hearsay". For example, several have questioned Stoner's illness as ........, yet you use the recent report on Rossi's surgery as proof positive that the shoulder injury was true. But does it really prove he was hindered in the way he describes and were you there when the doc confirmed it? No, its still "hearsay" of the same level as Casey's illness reports. Its just what we decide is true or believable, right?
