Rossi: "Stoner did an incredible job on the Ducati"

Nup.

Iron-y

There was no magic is SS's post, just the usual whining about a 'whiner'.

Yes, the whiney little ....... just wouldn't accept the obvious truth that he only won his 2 championships because of bike advantages and could never have got near the great Valentino on riding talent, and spitefully rigged the Ducati before he left there so Valentino couldn't ride it to make it look like his outrageous view of things was correct.

But what's he going to do about the other three guys?

Nothing he can do, he is over the hill. Stoner was kicking his ... in his prime, mostly on a bike that Rossi couldnt ride at all. Now he is just getting his ... kicked and has learned to accept it as reality.

Until Rossi went to ducati I possibly thought that too.

But then Rossi rode the duc and showed in 08 and 09 his major opposition was on a bike Rossi could not ride.

So no ...... again rossis opposition has always been hobbled, or just plain nags.

This will always be an asterisk on those two championship years; the fact that Stoner was riding a glorified garbage truck. He did have Lorenzo to contend with in those two years, though, although JL did spend much of his rookie year hitting the eject button on his M1.

Stoner's number one reason he was/is disliked was because he beat the most popular rider in GP. Its a crime that's never been forgiven. People can dream uo explanations, say its because of his demeanor, bla bla 'straight talked/whined" whereas VR is great with the camera, bla bla, but it will always come back to beating VR simply not being a popular event. The sport's overwhelming masses (including the front office) gave Casey .... and never let up.

Yep, they made fun of Hayden and wrote his title off as an anomoly, but really never hated him. They flat out hated Stoner because they knew he was better.

There's another obstacle for both MM and JL; each other. Rossi didn't have an equal in the series until he was nearly eight years into his career, whereas JL (and now MM) have had to battle other aliens since their first day in the premier class.

Observed events would fit equally well with Gibernau and particularly Biaggi being really good but Rossi being even better at his absolute peak in his early to mid twenties as the current "aliens" are now, and him being better then than he is is now.

Imo the best policy is to give whichever rider wins the championship in any given year full credit for doing so, since it involves beating whoever else turns up to race, but I guess that is where all this started.

I agree, but I don't think Hayden's ever gotten his due for winning in '06.

Absolutely, hence the sympathy for Stoner's treatment from many Hayden fans.

I would actually argue Hayden's championship was more rather than less meritorious than most, given the number of bikes capable of winning that year

The greater the distance from that year, the more impressive it is (to me, anyway) Down to the wire. And Nicky nailed it.

Great evening watching that race.

What a load of bollocks !

There are plenty of non Rossi fans that dislike Stoner. If it's how you say then why doesn't Lorenzo have this universal dislike projected towards him ?

People don't like Stoner because he is petulant and behaves like a spoiled brat. He had what most race fans couldn't even dream of for a job and life style, yet all he would do is moan and complain like the ungrateful prick he is. Then there were is Barrymachine brigade fan base that were as irritating on message boards as stoner was in interviews.

To quote a wise Scotsman, He's a greetin faced ....... !

Hayden's title is (IMO) one of the more under-rated titles and one that for mine is to simply forgotten as to the sheer magnitude of just what Hayden achieved in 2006.

To many people look for the negatives in his season, such as the few race wins whilst overlooking the immense positives of being competitive whilst racking up the points with a level of remarkable consistency when the quality of the field is revealed. This of course couples with the immense pressures of competing in the shadow of Rossi, on a Honda NOT designed for himself or to his liking and under the intense pressures caused by the oft-Jumkie repeated Pedrosa torpedo.

Nope, for mine Hayden's season was a tremendous season and outstanding achievement that has been lost in the personality laden drivel of the championships and champions of other years.

In 2006, the quiet achiever won .......................... we should never forget that!

But Rog, don't the vast majority of these guys behave with petulance and/or like spoilt brats when things do not go their way?

Rossi quitting Yamaha after the me or him ultimatum.

Pedrosa/Puig many carry on's about Hayden, Simoncelli etc

Lorenzo's carry on regarding other riders, equal euipment etc

These guys get where they are because of that spoilt brat petulance as they are so tightly wound up (as are the vast majority of extremely high performing athletes) but it is how they present that petulance that determines the manner in which they are perceived by the media and it is here where Rossi is the absolute king to Stoner's pauper.

IMO, all current and future riders need to look at how Rossi presents himself, irrespective of the situation and mould their 'personalities' whilst using Rossi as a template (and yes, there is a lot about Rossi that I do not like/enjoy, but he has manufactured a persona that affords him opportunity and luxury that many simple will never see)

A few means 3, you should have said a couple meaning 2 lol. 2006 was a great season with so much drama. yes hayboy got taken out by dani adding extra pressure. Rossi got taken out by Alias only to be beaten by him at another race by something like 0.007 of a sec. And who could forget Hayden and Edwards race to the finish at assen. Then with it pretty much in the bag for rossi he throws it away at valencia with the wild card Bayliss winning and caparossi second, both on Ducati's. Unlike now it was a time were anyone could win a race. I think that was the year KR jnr nearly won a race too?

I can't stand rossi's persona.

The stupid thing is Stoner is as straight up as they come, rossi never speaks a straight word, and the boppers read it the exact opposite to reality.

Yes, but stoner behaved like it win or loose !  He really is a "glass half full" type of guy. For me i really started to dislike him for his on track temper tantrums and for his interviews and press statements. The aussies call it "saying it how it is". The British call it "washing your laundry in public". The boy just has no class or decorum. He came across as unsophisticated and common. Better suited to ploughing a field than on the world stage. His interviews always made worse due to his nasal voice and (no disrespect) whining sound of that aussie accent.

This is now a prehistoric argument. However, notwithstanding whether Stoner has an engaging personality or not,  in regard to most of the obvious truths concerning which he supposedly displayed petulance by being in disagreement, such as the purported massive advantage (and capacity to ride itself) of the 2007 Ducati, him being mentally broken rather than ill in 2009, his misadventures on the 2010 Ducati being due to poor riding and/or development rather than the bike being an absolute pig, or even to some extent the dangers of high speed differentials on the racing line in practice, history has not shown his critics to be in possession of the absolute truth to quite the degree they may have considered themselves to be.

I remain happy to rehash all this on a motogp forum, but I don't see much point in he himself putting out a book in his retirement to do so as I have said previously.

This coming from the man who managed to make a bitter, personal enemy out of every one of his major rivals?

The same person who has burned more bridges than the Italian Army?  (Hello, Honda?!)

The guy who just recently threw his lifelong 'friend' and trusted mechanic under the Big Yellow Bus?

Time to take off the <span style="font-size:24px;<span style="color:rgb(255,215,0);Bopper Vision goggles, Rez.
