Is this an end to a promising career? I hope not. Wishes for a speedy recovery.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"I'm jacked up real bad," Hayden said this afternoon via cell phone. "I broke my pelvis in three spots, one near my tail bone. I also broke my lower left lumbar in three spots. My pinkie is ground down and dislocated so bad they can't pin it; they might have to do a bone graft.

"It's a bad deal. It wasn't my fault. I have no idea what he was thinking," Hayden said of the other rider involved

He should be alright and racing again next month.

His injuries sound very similar to what Tommy Hill sustained. If they are roughly the same, he's going to miss the rest of the season.

Shame.

Tommy Hill's career has taken a big dent from missing so much as he has i hope this doens't happen to RLH. Would it be fair to assume that's his GP wildcard oppertunities out the window?

Some privateer #311 (Petri), did a Checa/Peders on him. During practice pre-race. Not shown on TV. Maybe it will pop up on Tube later.

They did show the dust clearing in the crash. Nothing really though. Couldn't tell how the other guy hit him.

Bummer for Rog.

I'm gutted for Rog. I'd always hoped that a few more 600 crowns or even some more solid publicity for Kwak in the states and he might get a boost to go racing on the world scale.

Really a shame for him.

He is not dead yet. In the article below you will see that they had to remove the finger. Wayne rainey did well with 9 fingers(1992 world championship), Ronnie Lott(NFL cornerback) did well, Troy Bayliss is doing well with a missing......well, you know, and that chap Frodo of the nine fingers also went on to do quite well. I think he will be back racing in no time at all, and with the weight he will save, with the missing finger and all, he should be faster than ever.

Amputation For Hayden
outlook is great for kentucky rider

Kawasaki Superbike rider Roger Lee Hayden had the small finger on his left hand—damaged in a crash at Barber last weekend—amputated on Thursday.

"No bone, no joint, they figured it was best to cut it off," Hayden said.

On the upside, Hayden feels remarkably better. He will undergo one more operation on the hand to tuck things back together, and then may well be released next week.

While losing a finger is never a matter to take lightly, the ramifications of losing that digit are relatively minor to a racer.

Three-time world champion Wayne Rainey crushed his left "pinky" finger in pre-season 1992. While there was a slim chance it could have been repaired, Rainey elected to have the digit amputated.

With nine-fingers, Rainey won the 1992 world championship.

I just heard the update on his injuries today, and the announcer was going on about the finger and kind of threw in the info about his pelvis and back as an afterthought. I wondered if I'd heard it correctly.
