I am sure that many people who saw the race were worried about Marco after seeing that terrible crash, especially after seeing his helmet come off. It appears that he lost control of his bike and slid across the track and was struck by Colin Edwards (who has a dislocated shoulder as a result). Sadly at 16.56 local time, Marco Simoncelli passed away as a result of his injuries. This is the news that none of us wanted to here, I have many MotoGP fans and riders added on twitter and there were hundreds of post praying for Marco and hoping for a miracle. It is truly heart breaking news and he will be sorely missed, he was an amazing rider, an amazing person and a great character. The paddock will not be the same with out him and his amazing hair. Cal Crutchlow posted on his' twitter "RIP Marco Simoncelli ! A great rider and all round nice guy. My thoughts are with all his family & friends. I will never forget today … #58"

This is a part of motor racing that we never want to see and happily it is a rare event but when it happens it hits everyone involved in motor racing and fans of the sport hard.

My thoughts and prayers are with his' fellow riders, team, family and friends at this difficult time.

My thoughts are also with Colin Edwards who would have been in the clinic with Marco when he passed away

He was loved by millions of people around the world and will be missed but never forgotten.

RIP Marco Simoncelli and thank you for everything

I knew it was bad straight away - had a real bad feeling about this.

RIP Marco Simoncelli - a man who's personality matched his potential. Gutted.

Terrible news. When I saw his helmet was off I knew it was unlikely he would survive. Massive condolonces to his friends and family.

Valentino and Colin must be feeling awful. Hope they van recover from the trauma soon.

Not my favourite rider, but never expected this. It can be a tough sport.

TV coverage in showed a brief cut to his distraught girlfriend(?) in the pits. Poor taste and insensitivity in the extreme. Whoever made ther decision to show that should be sacked immediately.

RIP Marco.

Fcuk 2 fatalities in a week. A horrific accident, knew something was wrong as soon as they had announced the race was cancelled. Marco had a great 2nd half of the season and was clearly a talented young rider with a big personality to match.

Gotta feel for Edwards and Rossi especially Rossi.

Condolences to his friends family and the racing world.

R.I.P Marco

RIP Super Sic. Created a lot of noise this year for various reasons but cannot deny how much you matured since. A great loss of a future MotoGP champion.

I hope the final race is cancelled. The championship is over and I think the whole paddock would respect it.

Again RIP SUPER SIC #58

Marco may have gotten a lot of criticism from race administration for being a little careless at times, but he was a phenomenal rider and seemed like such a free spirit. Sic Sim had such a bright future ahead of him in MotoGP. He'll be greatly missed. RIP Marco. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and other fans. ♥

A terrible shame, obviously thoughts go out to his family and friends, a bright future cut tragically short R.I.P

I am distraught. Just lost for words. Amazing talent, amazing character. No one could ever say that Marco wasn't a real bike racer.

It's amazing. We all watch and marvel at what these guys do every race weekend. We love this sport and we love these riders. Sometimes if you are lucky enough you get to meet one at a GP and I am sure you all feel like I do. Like a little excited boy meeting a hero.

As bike racing fans, we follow this sport so avidly and feel that we have an affinity with the riders. We feel like they aren't just sportsmen who live a life so detached from the real world of most forum members.

This sport and these racers bring us many things. Excitment, tension, smiles and new friendships. It also brings us tears.

Today I am hurting.

Marco, rest in peace. Racing will miss you

Rest in Peace, Super Sic.

A sad day for the MotoGP community. My thoughts go out to his family, friends, and fans.

Only 24 years is far too young, and we were privileged to witness all his brilliance, his talent for controversy, his irreverent wit and charm while we could.

We can also take solace in the fact that Marco, on that second lap, was in P4, with archrival #1 Dovi just ahead, and archrival #2 Bautista close behind, was in the thick of the action, and doing what he loved in his final moments.

Vale Marco

Also: spare a thought for Fausto and his team, reliving this nightmare again.

I’m gutted and very distraught…I agree with all that as soon as I saw the accident I couldn’t believe it and just had a bad feeling in my gut…Marco was quick if not the quickest a legend to be born, a trendsetter and a terrific bloke!

Viva MARCO May You Rest In Peace!!!

You Will Never Be Forgotten!!!
