I watched in amazement when Rossi slowed to chop off Marquez's line and bring both them to a crawl, then observe his amazement when Marc fell off. Dorna tolerates Rossi's actions to keep the sport in the limelight, as anyone would expect, given the fan base. IMO, Rossi should have been immediately black flagged and not allowed to thumb his nose at the sport for another 16 laps. Because it was at minimal speed the actions are to be excused? That wide line was taken all through the race by both riders.
I can hear it now in my best broken English: " I am riding at the maximum level and I cannot ah-break free from Marc, so I ah-wait for him to be beside me and then I ride out make ah- make sure he ah-doesn't leave the corner. I am ah-very mad that the rider cannot drop back and ride around with Nicky in 16th place while I collect my victory".
Rossi should rightfully lose some supporters over this, as any true enthusiast didn't tune in to watch a rider of his caliber treat a fellow competitor in that manner. Why isn't anyone focusing on the fact that Rossi could not have competed at Lorenzo's pace, and would have just rode around in 3rd collecting points and waving at the crowd? Rossi should have been irritated at himself/Team Yamaha for missing the setup on his bike.
Marquez is paid millions to ride his bike as he sees fit. Riding around in the back of pack is not his style nor would you expect that Repsol would tolerate that. Perhaps one day Marc will learn to take what the race can offer and not fall, but he remains young and hungry.
Those ghosts I spoke of, oh those are the ones that Rossi punted off their bikes along the way to some of his titles. Sete Gibernau in particular spent Sunday writhing on his couch watching the manner in which Rossi disposed of the Marquez challenge. Revenge will be watching Rossi come up short next week.
