Anyone still doubting that Kallio can reach top 10 in the first race? I, as I've said before, think he definitely will.

In the recent tests Stoner clocked 1.55.7 and Rossi 1.56.9
1.2 seconds gap
Now in FP1 the gap is reduced to a few tenths -- however, both have been slower.
I imagine the track is always the same for all

If Rossi can keep getting closer, and if Lorenzo keeps improving, maybe Stoner will not be able to take off and disappear in the race. It is difficult not tol see Stoner as the big favorite for the win though.

Last year at Qatar was Stoner's most measured coolest performance of the season. It was as if he knew all along he could win it, and sat back while the others up front beat each other up before eventually pulling the pin - very impressive at the time. Weird, it wasn't as if he had to worry about tyre conservation. It's uncharacteristic of Casey to hold back...speculation was at the time that he may have been running some fuel saving engine mapping for an initial pre planned duration, before reverting to full on 'Preziosi' power.

stoner is my favorate for the win to with vale just behind... im curious to why stoner doesnt give the tyres a long run as they are supposed to be different rubber. i mean he doesnt wanna start a race and find out there are ruined halfway through.

this is what makes me think the tyres are based around the ducati as they have used BS rubber for a long time and they will have the most data from ducati also with some from yamaha last season? maybe im wrong.

anyways i think stoner can still go faster so hes my favorate for the race win.

CV said he went with the soft front.

Granted he is doing shorter runs, but he may not be changing tyres. Could have done 3 or 4 stints on the same tyre. That way he puts 20 or more laps on it. No proof, just doubt he would be wasting tyres with the rules the way they are.

I was just going to write that too. When looking at their fastest outing on analysis on the motogp.com Rossi and Stoner had about the same laptimes. If they are using the same tires this could maybe be close. It was also interresting to see that Rossi were the fastest in T1 and Stoner in all the rest, and not by much in each split. In 2007 there was a segment in the broadcast of Burgess talking about the importance of being fast in T3 i think with that long lefthander. If these laptimes are anything to go by when comparing riders(they will all probarbly go more than a second faster on Sunday)it could be a close race.
Oh,and Kallio if not crashing, great riding!

Maybe lex could chime in, but I'm not sure 'soft' and 'hard' mean what we think. A soft carcass would hurt lap times, but clearly a soft compound would help, adding grip - with a shorter lifespan.
The description on MotoGP.com only notes Bridgestone will supply 'A' and 'B' slicks. So we won't know until Gavin fills us in. I'm pretty sure the hard tire is a Hard Construction/Hard Rubber. The 'B' or soft tire could be Soft/Soft or Hard/Soft or Soft/Hard.

However, of the 18 riders, only Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo (fourth) and Niccolo Canepa (17th) tried the harder compound front tyre on Friday, meaning that most of Suzuki's rivals have also saved their supply of that rubber for Saturday and Sunday.

Maybe Rossi is going to improve a great deal tomorrow then...

i think they can both go quicker but casey said after practise he isnt sure where the limit is yet and he is trying to find it so i guess he still has more to give.

but all in all i think we may have a close race for the first 4

What do you guys think of Gibernau's chances?

http://www.crash.net/MotoGP/News/145182/1/...last_a_lap.html

Thought he would be higher than 16th after being 8th at Jerez & considering this is one of Ducatti's better tracks.

I know his shoulder is playing up. So what would he do in qualifying? Would he take it easy & just concentrate on the race? Or would he still go as hard as possible in qualifying because it is only 1 or 2 laps at a time?

I think he would loose too much in not trying to push for a fast lap in qualifying. But maybe he will take it slower in the 2:eek:nd practice.I don't know, but from what he is saying it sound like -don't expect too much from me this weekend.

I heard the track was pretty dirty but the Q session was after two full previous sessions so how bad could the line be? However, that and the almost embarrassing performance of CV getting owned by Hayate racings Marco Melandri has me face full in the beer pitcher....long night ahead. Better days ahead....I hope.
