Yeah I know it is, and the way it was displayed was in a 3D kinda shot past the Bahrain Flag, then the Aus. flag then the crowd .... looked intentional, but I guess a cameraman spotted a good shot when it happened ....... just funny to notice it, then have one of the flag holders appear later

Now this is coming from the guy who won the race.
And a guy known for getting his setup work done and getting fast in just a handful of laps.

I notice Stoner whinges alot, its kind of disrespectful to your rivals to say you can go faster when you won the race.

He never seems to be really happy about anything accept when he won the title.

I think its just the way he is, its a character flaw but can play to his advantage in some situations.

FIM MotoGP World Championship
Losail International Circuit
Doha, Qatar
April 13, 2009
Warm-Up Top Speeds LINK (all on Bridgestone tires):

1. Mika Kallio (Ducati), 205.1 mph
2. Dani Pedrosa (Honda), 205.0 mph
3. Casey Stoner (Ducati), 204.7 mph
4. Toni Elias (Honda), 203.7 mph
5. Valentino Rossi (Yamaha), 203.1 mph
6. Marco Melandri (Kawasaki), 202.7 mph
7. Sete Gibernau (Ducati), 202.5 mph
8. Alex De Angelis (Honda), 202.4 mph
9. Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha), 202.1 mph
10. Andrea Dovizioso (Honda), 201.4 mph
11. Nicky Hayden (Ducati), 201.3 mph
12. Colin Edwards (Yamaha), 201.0 mph
13. Loris Capirossi (Suzuki), 200.9 mph
14. James Toseland (Yamaha), 200.0 mph
15. Niccolo Canepa (Ducati), 199.8 mph
16. Yuki Takahashi (Honda), 199.0 mph
17. Chris Vermeulen (Suzuki), 198.3 mph
18. Randy De Puniet (Honda), 197.0 mph

Tops speeds are nice and a pretty good indicator as to who has what, as far as motor goes, but there are many variables in those top speeds. Exit speed out of the last corner being a huge variable and who was in who's draft. Some bikes will draft better with certain bikes than others. What that chart does tell me is that Casey and the Ducatis are not just going to automatically blow by the competition on the straights like last year and will have to look for more places to pass. Ducati is still the fastest bike but no where near the gap they had when the 800's first came to be

The guy on the BBC said Stoner was doing 206 down the straight in the race.

Kallio looks like a 125 rider

Mick doohan whinged constantly after winning races, but stoner probably needs to win a few world championships and look a bit older than 15 to get away with it. There is an article in the latest australian motorcycle news about how he absolutely hates talking to the press but can't stop himself from reading it.

There is a reasonably un-arrogant but admittedly bland post qatar interview on gpone where stoner says the right things about it being only one race etc. Valentino is also fairly gracious (as far as I could tell) in another story.

I remember watching a vid on YouTube where CV and his manager said it cost 1 million dollars per mph. So that is about 10 million bucks additional funds needed for Suzuki's GSVR motor. They should have one of the wildest damn motors out there by now but they are still far behind. Without a ton of motor you are just not a contender.

Did you see Rossi's post race interview?

yep! for a new season where everyone is on the same tyres, i sure heard a lot of bitching about tyres....

<

oh well, same .... different season...

I think Rossi knew from the first practice he was not going to win this race. He didn't look happy but supposedly he likes a challenge so here it is. No old champ wants to bow to the new guy but it's the law of the racing jungle.

we were discusing a week or to back of how kalio mirors stoners possitioning on the ducati... i noticed it in the testing vids and said looks like kalio has been watching stoner anyway check out this pic... me thinks kalio is is learning the way pretty quick.

if he was in stoners leathers and on his bike in this pic could you tell the difference?

Well, they certainly look more alike than Hayden and Stoner for example. Canepa's positioning looked way different, apparently way slower too.

Poor Canepa, he and Takahashi are the "which one of these does not belong".

Please do tell of one rider who doesn't whinge, whine or complain and why should having an opinion that may not be positive be considered a 'flaw' as you put it.

IMO, having a person who will voice an opinion outside of the accepted norm or in a manner that shows personal emotion, feelings or is not given in the manner a publicist would prefer is actually a strength and refreshing, not a flaw.

I personally enjoy watching interviews with CS just as I did MD, Rainey, Schwantz etc who simply called it as they saw it, no publicity savvy media BS, just a good honest assesment of their days work.

Ha I guess some people whould like to have a monotone person with scripted answers.

Casey could learn so much from Valentino and Nicky. They say what they want without being petulant tools. I imagine Stoner is mildly autistic/asperger and very uncomfortable in intense social situations. It may be why he's so good. But grow the .... up and work on your marketability. Also, Casey's 'unvarnished truth' is often overshadowed by his raw emotional state at the current time. He was wrong about Qatar on Monday, just like he was wrong about Laguna '08.

You really don't like Stoner do you (you ain't alone so don't go getting all defensive)?

You may very well be surprised about how many of these guys react in social situations in which they do not have control so I would be very careful about casting aspersions that Stoner is 'mildly autistic' as you so put it. Do you have a level of training to make that aspersion or have you had exposure to that type of diagnosis?

The fact that a person delivers the 'unvarnished truth' in an emotional state is what makes it so appealing as we see the true body language which highlights the real intent of the message. We see the excitement as a rider 'bounces' around as they have enjoyed themselves, or we see the scowl and furrowed brow of a worried rider or we see anger in their eyes which IMO shows a true character/personality.

As for CS' being petulant, again all riders are that is their nature as they are highly strung athletes who are all incredibly self absorbed and who live in their own worlds (like most top flight athletes).

There are good and bad stories (of varying degrees) about all racers and yes some involve ridiculous levels of petulance through to some incredible stories of sheer class and quality by certain individuals, most of which will go unreported in teh mainstream as 'they arent good press'. So just remember that what is seen on TV is often not the real person.
